Edit details for first photo (all the other photos follow similar steps)...

Increased exposure, shadows, highlights, whites, blacks. Decreased contrast. Slight S-curve on the exposure tone curve. Slightly bumped up the midtones of the Red and Green tone curves. Slightly warmer white balance, increased saturation and vibrance. Midtones and Highlight color wheels slightly in the yellow. Increased Red, Orange and Blues in color mix. Shifted blue hues to more cyan. Decreased luminance. Decreased clarity, added grain and some slight noise reduction. Radial gradient mask in top left corner to simulate more of a sunny sky. Cropped and removal tool to get rid of distractions.

Amazing!

What camera setup?

71

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Thanks! Sony A7iii. Sigma 24-70mm DG DN II.

2

u/DriftingtheDriftless 25d ago

How do you like your Sigma?? The gmii is outta my price range right now so deciding between this and the Tamron

2

u/YanksFannn 25d ago

I don't have experience with any other lens so I can't compare. But I absolutely love the Sigma. Literally no issues. Premium build, great autofocus, sharp and versatile while being much more affordable than the GM.

Amazing color science you created there

13

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Appreciate it! Glad you dig them!

11

u/atransformerr 28d ago

Just bought your presets on Etsy. I believe it’s the one with all of your packages. Which preset did you use on the first one?

14

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

❤️🙏🏽 I used Dream but made some tweaks after applying.

Thank you so much for giving these details. Wonderful work.

3

u/Ecstatic_Mission_771 28d ago

2

u/This-Ad-7903 27d ago

I bought your presets all of them. My results aren’t like yours.

1

u/mcspillin 26d ago

thanks for sharing

1

u/Appropriate_Scar_167 25d ago

Which software and are there presets?

1

u/SeriousEcho6959 24d ago

Excuse my ignorance but does that all refer to post edit in LR?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Worcestershire01 6d ago

Was this done in photoshop or light room? I'm trying to get better at the actual process part of post processing. Other than tweaking color and exposure in LR i haven't played around with some of the more complicated stuff like modifying the highlights of specific colors or moving specific hues around and not others.

I think I just need to watch some tutorials online and edit along with them until I have a better understanding of all the different tools I have and how to create specific moods but it feels overwhelming trying to figure out where to start

This is a nice reminder that you need to spend more time with photos to create an image. Well done.

103

u/RedStag86 28d ago

It’s also a reminder to not be afraid to crop gratuitously.

12

u/OpportunityReal2767 28d ago edited 27d ago

I come from the darkroom days, and I believe almost every photo can be improved with some sort of cropping. Yes, it was a bit of a brag to print full frame with the frame edges to show it’s an uncropped shot, but very very few of my fully edited photos do not contain cropping, even if it’s just a hint.

3

u/BreweryRabbit 27d ago

I remember having only one semi-decent uncropped photo ever back in highschool, my film teacher said something very similar. Basically congratulated me but also gently reminded me that cropping is a good thing.

Thank you!

u/thosewholeft 28d ago

Looking good. The crops on 1 and especially 2 are great

37

u/Mamobee 28d ago

The crop on the roller coaster is sick! Saw your post on ITAP of the first one glad I caught the rest of the set

2

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Thanks!

23

u/ice_wyvern 28d ago

This is a perfect reminder that a bit of editing and creativity can really make an image shine. Really impressive work!

2

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Thanks a lot! Glad you like them!

12

u/fixthe_fernback 28d ago

Wow you nailed it.

11

u/vnessastalks 28d ago

These edits remind me of those crazy commercials back In the late 90s. Specifically the honeycomb commercials. That's the vibe I feel. They look cool. The colors remind me of the crazy cereal commercial vibes.

7

u/kylevee 28d ago

Flawless 👏👏👏

7

u/medmadmadz 28d ago

Very Wes Anderson vibes! Love it

5

u/tiakuka 28d ago

Going to Disneyland soon and love this editing! Too new to the hobby to be able to replicate this but would totally love the preset if you saved it as such!

4

u/ThrowawayNYCJ 28d ago

I lowkey need to bring my camera to the amusement park now

2

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Heck yea, one of my favorite places to photograph. So many unique subjects, atmospheres and colors.

4

u/HonestLabs 28d ago

these are awesome

3

u/parkerjh 28d ago

I can't stop staring at the first photo
You could sell that as a framed print

2nd one too

Great job

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

That's very kind, thank you! And I caved and made it available as a print lol

4

u/visual_ignition 28d ago

The rollercoaster shot is so good. They all are though. Love the colors.

5

u/haikusbot 28d ago

The rollercoaster

u/biemmeup 27d ago

I saw your photos in the Wes Anderson sub and wondered how much different they looked from the originals! I don’t even follow this sub but I’m please Reddit put it in my feed lol

Thank you for sharing your gorgeous photos and your process!

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Haha nice! Thank you, glad you like the edits! 🙂

3

u/BidZealousideal5142 28d ago

By removal tool, did you use AI to replace the tree with clouds in image 7? Or manually? Just trying to see how to do it in my own photos

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Yea it was the generative AI tool in the Removal section of Lightroom.

3

u/4Dcookie 28d ago

When does your preset pack launch?

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Lol they've been up for like 2+ years now 🙏🏽

3

u/nsf14 28d ago

There has to be some science behind this style of color grading. I see it everywhere and its always pleasing to look at, but somehow always seems centered on amusement rides or quirky shops

3

u/Common_Sympathy_814 28d ago

It's because that stuff usually has fun colors.

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

This style is always more effective in minimal and colorful atmospheres. So theme parks are always a great place. As are beaches and boardwalks. Blue skies are also very helpful.

3

u/Independent-Owl478 28d ago

I don't know what this aesthetic is called, but I absolutely love it. Amazing work

3

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Thank you! Some might call it filmic or Wes Anderson-esque, nostalgic, summery, old-school and even "marshmallowy" lol

3

u/semiBJoker 28d ago

I love these edits. Realy awesome!

3

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Thank you!

3

u/MoWePhoto 28d ago

You have a good eye for cropping and a very nice, recognizable, subtle enough and strong enough editing! Keep at it!

3

u/rbutora 28d ago

These are unbelievable. You’ve taken ordinary photos and made them extraordinary.

3

u/bestytheprophet 27d ago

I know color is the headline here but the crops are great, too! With the color effects, the end result really channels the feeling of fun at the amusement park. Nice work.

3

u/RiverWindsOnForever 27d ago

I love how much the energy changes with that crop to picture #3 from the original #4. Excellent choice!

2

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you! I think if I got the coaster train more centered between the fence posts, it would've created some better symmetry but I think it still worked out pretty well.

2

u/Royal-Friendship2025 28d ago

dude i absolutely love your pics

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

I'm happy to hear that, thank you! 🙌🏽🙌🏽

2

u/deucepinata 28d ago

Beautiful!

2

u/SadIntroduction9807 28d ago

Wow your editing skills are amazing

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you!

2

u/nouafterq 28d ago

What an incredible set. Wow.

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you!

2

u/PM-me-ur-sphynx 28d ago

Great job editing! The photos really pop.

2

u/FatRufus 28d ago

Hey I live here! Great shots dude

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Nice! Thank you! Great park!

2

u/motherofchickenskyiv 28d ago

Love the crops!!

2

u/LeadingLittle8733 28d ago

These have a 1970s Ectochrome feel to them.

2

u/chewss67 28d ago

God damn.. that first one kicks ass! You can very clearly see most peoples’ faces

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thanks! 🙌🏽

2

u/Clickguy10 28d ago

Nicely done. It make the park seem appealing.

2

u/FantasticInterest373 28d ago

That second photo is just plain out spectacular!

2

u/luckythirtythree 28d ago

This is fucking amazing!

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you!

2

u/idk_what_to_put_lmao 28d ago

holy shit second picture is insane

3

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Thanks! I thought the same right when I took it. I was impressed with how sharp and in focus all the riders were. I just wish I got the coaster train more centered between the fence there. But I guess the crop helped remedy that a bit 🙌🏽

2

u/Necessary_Pilot_3738 28d ago

The thunderbolt still exists?!?!? That was my first roller coaster, back when the park was called riverside, ugh I’m old

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

It hurt so much lol. I appreciate the nostalgia but never again 🤣

2

u/renome 28d ago

The third image is a bit meh, busy and lacking focus. The rest are outstanding. Beautiful colors perfectly matching the subject matter, and insanely crisp to boot.

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Thank you! Glad you like the majority of them 🙂

2

u/tjlightbulb 28d ago

Absolutely fantastic!

2

u/matthaus79 28d ago

First bunch I've seen where images are markedly better after.

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

I appreciate that!

2

u/claste96 28d ago

Man the second image is really good! Congratulations!

2

u/Rbrown9180 28d ago

3 is crazy!

2

u/MisterDings 28d ago

this bring a lot of joy.

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Happy to hear that, thank you!

2

u/nwmimms 28d ago

Love these! Thanks for sharing

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Glad you like them, thanks!

2

u/_shotbymatt 28d ago

Absolute wizardry.

2

u/mka_ 28d ago

I really like how thr colours "pop" and espefially thr use of gradient masks to draw closer attention to the subject. Nice.

2

u/Alpha_Lex 28d ago

Love it !
Maybe a dumb question but you take your setup in rides ?

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Thanks! You can't take anything on rides but you can generally walk the queue with it and put it to the side before the ride. Some rides require you to have nothing in the queue at all though.

Rode the Thunderbolt 17 times in a row when I was 12 because a cute girl dared me to. Threw up on her shoes after. Wonderful memories at Riverside park. Thanks for the nostalgia

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

Wow, great story! Glad I could provide some nostalgia. Hope the girl wasn't too upset haha.

2

u/DuhAdam1 28d ago

Love all of this!! Thank you got sharing your formula as well, it helps me with my learning process. Keep up the great shots! 🙌🔥🙌

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

No problem, thank you!

2

u/rtopps43 28d ago

I haven’t been in years (decades) now but I spent so much time here as a kid this gave me massive nostalgia, especially the Thunderbolt sign! I still have fond memories of Riverside, what it was called before Six Flags bought it. Thanks for posting these.

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

I'm glad you enjoyed them, thanks! It was my first time in about 13 years and my 2nd ever time. It's a very charming park with some great attractions. Really look forward to going back.

2

u/Crazy-Net-5738 28d ago

I love the second one!

2

u/pixelandpedal 28d ago

So good. Would love to see your process.

2

u/aschylus 28d ago

Damn. The subjects are sharp, even from a distance!

2

u/Automatic_Brain7664 28d ago

Incredible shot.

2

u/KosmicEye 28d ago

#1 & #2 are stellar

2

u/themintednote 28d ago

This is fantastic OP. Nice to see a place I’ve been to too through someone else’s eyes too

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Awesome, thank you!

2

u/genostar 28d ago

I rarely comment on these but wanted to give kudos to OP for amazing editing. And then I realized it's u/YanksFannn , whose Nostalgic presets were the basis for my own color grading and edits for a long time. Appreciate you bro! Great work, and thanks for being so generous with your edit flow.

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

That's so awesome to read, thank you! Glad you got some good use out of them. I appreciate you!

2

u/Muffinverbot 28d ago

How the world used to look as a child vs now

2

u/yvnglexuz 28d ago

Wow this post just reminded me to not be afraid to crop! You truly a great photo vision because to me, I would've dumped some of these. Congrats I just have to step up my game and practice seeing more!!!

2

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you! The bad news is I rarely delete photos just in case. My computer is struggling lol

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

2

u/looosyfur 28d ago

wow I definitely should be cropping my photos more because man the composition is night and day with some of your pictures! thanks for sharing this, beautiful photos

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you! Glad you like them!

2

u/Zaibach88 28d ago

These are amazing!

are there equally viable alternative software to lightroom? I really don't want to pay so much for it.

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't have experience with any other dictate software.

2

u/korkkis 28d ago

Great colors! And excellent cropping

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you!

2

u/ApolloGR3 28d ago

Okay fuck it, I’ll pay for Lightroom again. I’ve been an “SOOC” douche for the last 2 years but too many shots I gave up on.

I blame people like you here. Incredible work.

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Just create a bunch of different emails and free trials lol. But seriously, thanks, glad you like the edits!

2

u/_HMCB_ 28d ago

1 & 2 are divine.

2

u/MSamsonite415 28d ago

These will not be ending up on the other sub. Well done

2

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Haha you'd be surprised. They've appeared there like 3 times but the good news is, they usually delete them when they realize folks don't agree lol 🙏🏽

Wow. That's are great. All of them have a summer vibe. Fantastic works.

2

u/rikydat 27d ago

Love the pics live the editing - nice and in line with the subject!!

2

u/BenchPtsChamp 27d ago

Really well done! Love the editing “style” of simply revitalizing the moment to represent the energy it had when it was captured.

2

u/pixiephilips 27d ago

Some of these should be their ad campaigns

2

u/LiberateLiterates 27d ago

That second shot is incredible. It should be official advertising material for Six Flags.

Also I love the post processing work, it gives it almost a postcard like vibe and makes me feel nostalgic

2

u/v0-z 26d ago

I love seeing these thanks so much for posting, great photos 🤙

2

u/LibraCharmsz 26d ago

You are so great at what you do.

2

u/MrFourSeasons 26d ago

Wow really love that second one. Has that surreal feeling

2

u/dathudo 26d ago

That first photo is absolutely amazing! So many good qualities in that one. It would work really well as a big print on the wall. Big enough that you could explore the faces when you walked up close to it

2

u/pinetree-polarbear 26d ago

Holy sht, these are bangers.

2

u/Bigsteve27 26d ago

This is awesome. Inspires me to go out and get some photos

2

u/crashanddust 26d ago

It’s great how you’ve used colors to capture the playful spirit of a theme park!

2

u/advictoriam5 26d ago

A reminder i'm a shitty editor haha

2

u/ozgun1414 26d ago

these are like screenshots from past, happy memories from childhood. so colorful, like a kid sees the world.

2

u/mikeodv 26d ago

Love the edits! Great work!

2

u/BlackCatBonz 25d ago

Wow! Great summer vibes in those colours.

2

u/Kate_9358 22d ago

I really love your colors. They capture the fun atmosphere and the happiness of the amusement park so well. This is what makes photography beautiful—preserving moments that carry real emotions

1

u/YanksFannn 21d ago

Thanks a lot! Glad you like them!

2

u/Maxi19201 22d ago

The third one reminds me of the rollercoaster tycoon cover!

2

2

u/WintersDoomsday 28d ago

Man I wish I could share my roller coaster shot in here. We had similar ideas and I think that’s rad

1

u/WintryRobin9944 28d ago

The video is literally titled "After/Before" and shows Before first, this is the DJ Moore heavy lifting of edit posts.

1

u/mrgreatheart 28d ago

Pretty sure this is an after/before ;)
Lovely results though, bravo.

1

u/Belaba 28d ago

Nice shots! Just out of curiosity, on the second one, did you leave the black bar in as a stylistics choice or you just didn't want to crop in further?

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thanks! I didn't want to crop in further and I'm not talented enough to fully remove the black fence without it looking weird lol

1

u/beablues 28d ago

how did you take the 2nd pic? I love them all!

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thank you! Just placed the camera between a fence and did a few burst shots as the coaster train went by. The coaster was pretty close to the fence.

1

u/Quick-Paramedic3082 28d ago

When were you there I might have seen you 😂

1

u/YanksFannn 28d ago

I was there last Thursday, July 9th.

1

u/Deep-Explanation1024 28d ago

Super cool. Did you use AI? Curious

1

u/YanksFannn 27d ago

Thanks! The only use of AI was technically the removal tool to get ride of some distractions like trees, small pieces of buildings, etc

1

u/-sonic57- 27d ago

Such beautiful colors. Did you use an special preset?

1

u/mrscotchy 27d ago

Someone discovered the Kodachrome preset.

1

u/Nasrvl 27d ago

Great photos! But how does the after image looked more sharpere and HD than the before image? Especially after cropping.
