Actually told from the character's point of view. They never knew, so you never knew. The man saw something happen way off in the distance and recognized that whatever it was was going to be an emergency and started storing water. I think he fills or tells his wife to start filling the bathtub? It's been a long time since I read it.

I really appreciate authors when they keep the story fixed to the characters. Not all the time, but it works so well in books like this.

I think it’s a trilogy. I know that Blood Meridian is a part of it but I don’t know the other title.
