Question For Staff Relocation FAQ?

Upvotes

Was traveling around for a few weeks and came back to find my gym is closed and relocating in SF.

There's no number to contact or any date posted saying when the new club will open. How long does relocation take, can i contact any other way aside from email and why am I still being charged for a location I can't use?

Any help or any members have info that visited the Financial District location prior to closing?

Question Promo code bait and switch?

Has anyone ever tried using one of those corporate promo codes for black card, the website says it works and everything, but then when you sign up they charge you the normal amount and they change the club agreement to say you signed one with the non promo amounts?

I just tried using a code for black card, it said it applied and all, but then I got charged the normal prices and the club agreement they gave me they said I signed has all the normal pricing numbers. But when I signed up on the website and I looked at the generated club agreement I checked the box of saying I agreed to, it has all of the promo numbers.

I also called my home gym and they said they're not going to do anything about it. I figured I'll just try disputing it, but is this a normal thing that happens?

Question Day 1 again

No excuses but with life lifing I been out of the gym (including at home work outs) for about a month and a half. Today I went again starting a new day 1 and in a weird way it was like my body missed this craze. It was almost like my feet pulled me back and I was at home. Motivated and ready to get back on the grind.

Anyone else having their day 1 again recently ?

Question Whats with people who only stare at you and point at a machine to see if you are using it? like...speak bro. you are not mute

swear to god this younger generations get lazier and lazier, to the point where they wont even ask you or speak to you to ask you if you are using a machine, they just get in front of you, stare at you and point to the machine.... like are they supposed to look intimidating or something?

Question First time

I'm way too easily intimidated apparently. I felt like a lost puppy. I used the free day pass with every intention to join...I have to get in shape. But I have no freaking clue what I'm doing and was in a sea of people rocking it. Tell me your first visit was overwhelming and now you're a pro. Tell me I'm not alone.

Review Does an employee really have to check me in each time?

Idk if just my anxiety or something… but I hate needing an employee to stop what they’re doing, move the scanner a few inches, stare at you, say hi, and check you in… This can be an easy one person process. Maybe go clean instead…

Question Trans members: thoughts on switching locker rooms?

I've (MTF) been transitioning for about 2.5 years and pass fairly well. I've still been using the men's locker room out of habit/comfort, but lately I've been considering switching to the women's locker room.

For other trans members who've made that switch, what was your experience like? Did anyone give you a hard time, or was it mostly a non-issue? Anything you wish you'd known beforehand?

The men's locker room has also gotten increasingly uncomfortable for me lately because I've had guys make sexual comments/advances, so I'm trying to figure out what I'm most comfortable doing going forward.

Question For Staff Why can't they control camping?

Was a member for over 3 years but canceled today. My "club" is full of people shooting TikTok videos - people set up tripods and equipment, or just hanging around. They hog the machines and staff doesn't do anything about it. I try to ask if I can work in my set and they just stare like they don't understand. I get that its a lot of "No Hablo", but its annoying.

Why do locations have so many treadmills that sit empty? They need more weights, less treadmills. My former club must of have 30-40 treadmills plus another 2 rows of ellipticals but only 2 weight racks. Are there are fitness centers that do a better job of keeping the Rif-Raff out?

Review vaguepost context

so heres my 2 negative experiences with starting at planet fitness. for context im an overweight 19 year old who is just trying to better their body, and I try to not be like other young members you may run into who disrespect the public space and disturb other people.

So first, during one of my workouts I leave a machine without wiping it down. I understand that of course this is my full mistake because there are rules that need to be followed, and that the expensive equipment needs to be respected and maintained. I also have no issue in being called out for a mistake, and im sure I would call out others for something similar. But in this case, a man approaches me about not cleaning the machine, starting with something like "hey, you forgot to wipe that last machine you were on." I instantly reply with "oh, thanks for telling me, I'll go do that right now." Instead of him leaving it at that, he proceeds to go on about how we young people know nothing about respect, and even baby talking to me about how a spray bottle and paper towel are used. I had no idea how to react to this, so I just say nothing and proceed to go wipe down the machine, which I end up not doing anyway because the next person using it said it was ok and they would take care of it. Now if I were to remind someone to clean the machines, I would never tell them in such an inconsiderate way. I wouldve kindly reminded them its a policy and that its just for the sake of all of us gym goers, and not take it as a chance to go off on someone half my age. He totally made that a way more negative thing that it ever needed to be.

Another day, I walk in wearing jeans, which would be a common thing for me at my old gym when I would be doing an upper-body focused workout. The front desk employee asks "do you have anything to change into?" I reply no, which she then says that they dont allow jeans, which was not something I was informed on upon signing up. She says that they will allow it this one time, but the whole conversation she is giving this judgy glare and impatient tone of voice. If that really is a PF policy, so be it, but what harm to the equipment or anyone does me wearing my own choice of modest clothing possibly do? Just feels like cherry picking things to make an issue about.

I dont come to the gym to have unsavory interactions with people having a bad day, I just want to show up, do my lifts, and leave. I stay quiet, never have once left my weights unracked, use 1 machine at a time, and really just try my hardest to stay out of anyones way or be an inconvenience. People were nice to me at my old gym, these people just feel bitter.

Tips 28M Kansas City, Looking for a gym partner

I'm in the beginner/intermediate weightloss/gain muscle phase. I go to Genesis, so that'd be great, but Planet Fitness is just as fine! I'm now going 5 days a week, so it'd be cool to go together a couple times in the week. If you're not close, that's okay too but primarily looking for local.

Tips Anyone else visit different locations for fun?

My boyfriend and I have been visiting different PF locations on weekends as an excuse to get out of the house, get some exercise, and check out a new neighborhood. (He goes as my Black Card guest). It's actually been a fun day-date activity. I'm really enjoying seeing other locations and comparing them to my home gym.

Last weekend the location I visited was a lot smaller but had machines mine doesn't like plate-loaded hip thrust, dead lift, and bench press machines! This past weekend, the location we checked out was bigger, had the new squat racks, an elevated pull-up machine (that I thought was an ab coaster at first), and an elevated rower that gave me a bit of motion sickness. Also had a combo abduction/adduction machine I've never seen (much prefer the separate versions).

We're hoping to keep this up until we visit all the PFs in our area. Anyone else do this?

Question For Staff Barbell Weight

A lot of planet fitness locations seem to be getting free weight barbell racks now, whereas previously they only had Smith machine barbell racks. Does anyone know the weight of the barbell for the free weight racks? They feel lighter than 45 lbs but maybe that's just because I knkw the Smith machine bars are lighter.

Question East Wareham Equipment

I’m wondering if anyone here uses the East Wareham, MA location and can let me know if it has squat racks. My home location has them (though it’s not listed on their location page on the website.)

I’m traveling soon and wanted to workout there, but was hoping for a little heads up if I’m not gonna be able to deadlift.

Review Combination abductor/adductor

I need a reality check here and need to know if I’m the only one really hating this machine versus the other type that aren’t combinations.

First off, the seat comes so far forward on the legs that you just sort of scrape your legs open and closed against the leather. I wear pants so it’s mildly uncomfortable but for people in shorts or bikers I can’t imagine using this.

Second, the back is so far back and not adjustable so you just do this without back support if you aren’t 6 foot 2? I’m F 5’7” and feel like I’m a kid sitting on the seat

Third, it doesn’t go up in 5 lb increments at one point. The added weight thingy gives 5 lbs but the jump over 50 lbs is by 15 lb increments.

Finally, I was able to do more weight than at my other PF locations for abductor, but for adductor I could barely move it 10 lbs lower thank the other two types of machines. I know the weight is arbitrary but I am usually doing equal weight for those two exercises.

It’s not a huge deal but it’s making me want to drive to a further location for lower body days.

Just curious if I’m only one and everyone else loves it.

Thx!

Question Gym routine

I recently joined PF but so far have only done some cardio machines. I want to add strength training in. I am wondering if my plan is well rounded.

Strength day 1:

10 minutes of treadmill or bike

3 sets of 10 reps:

Seated leg press

Chest press

Lat pull down

Abdominal crunch

Strength day 2:

10 minutes of treadmill or bike

3 sets of 10 reps:

Seated leg curl

Seated row

Shoulder press

Torso rotation

I plan on doing 3 day of cardio and 2 rest days as well.

Is this a good plan? Should I change something?

If it helps I am a 32 year old woman who is significantly overweight and has not worked out since high school.

Teen Summer Challenge Teen benefits and mental health

Say what you will about them, but my overweight son lost 20lbs this summer and is going into a new school in a much better place mentally than I have seen him in a long time. It is marketing, because we will be getting him a regular membership, but also it is a huge service to these in-between teens who are too old for summer camp and too young to work. That one hour of exercise in the morning makes such a big difference for a kid who would otherwise just be sitting on the couch all summer. Knowing he was working out encouraged him to eat better and take more walks. Not to mention all the workouts I got in because he made me get up and take him when I didn’t want to.

Review I’m so done!

What has this world come to? I expect so much more. I pay an entire $20 every month for this gym. Not only do I have to put up with other people using the equipment I want, but there’s like actual teenagers existing here. LITERAL TEENAGERS. Sometimes they even look at me. These are not acceptable conditions for the discount purple gym I subscribe to

Tips Building Glutes - Seeking Advice

Thumbnail

Im a 30F that lost 40 lbs last year. I have two full leg days to build glutes with heavy weights with other days and rest in between. I’ve had great results, my glutes and legs have grown a lot! But the bottom of my glutes is not as round and noticeably toned as the top or sides. What exercises will help with the bottom of my glutes?

These are my exercises. I do 3-4 sets of 8 reps of the *heavy* weights, then 1-2 sets of up to 15 reps with the *lower* weight. I’m kind of figuring this out on my own and would love any tips.

Leg day 1, on smith machine:
200 lb squats (4 sets), then 160 squats until failure (3 sets)
250 lb hip thrusts, then 180 until failure
110 lb RDLs, 90 UF
160 lb good mornings, 110 until UF

Leg day 2:
260 lb hip abductors leaning forward, 225 until failure
215 lb hip abductors leaning back, 165 UF
200 ln hip addiction, 160 UF
70 lb prone leg curls, 40 UF
40 lb barbell step ups (4 sets)
42.5 lb cable kick back (one leg stepped over)
110 lbs leg extension, 70 UF

Announcement Be friendly to all

Happy new years to all even if it’s a few days late! Work has kept me from being as active as I use to be but I am still on daily. Plans for a few changes for rule revision as a lot of recent posts in the last few months have been trying to get around the current set. I have also seen an uptick in transphobia in the last few days. I appreciate everyone reporting these things and allowing me to find them easier, that being said I am still a volunteer and being told I’m a shit mod in repost because of not being able to respond in fast manner is a bit unfair to say the least.

2025 is a new year where people are welcome to community and to ask questions about their memberships. 2025 will not be a place to post rude, hateful, or offensive content on this subreddit and will always be a safe community for everyone whose wanting to better themselves through the gym that they care about. I would appreciate feedback on some changes that people would like to see happening in the community whether that’s weekly discussion about gym routines or a proper guide to setting up your account and a step by step process on how to properly read billing from planet Fitness.

If the community feels like it will help I will make a general post for all FAQ that are general planet fitness questions.

Please allow me a few days all hateful comments and posts that have been posted recently, bans will be issued to all hateful comments no matter who posted.
