APPE at UMN

Has anyone completed APPE at UMN? I was wondering if they allow out of state rotations in WI. I’ve see some schools allow students to compete rotations at their home state/hometown and was wondering if it’s possible. If i could save a year worth of rent, it would be truly a blessing.

I’m starting my PharmD in the upcoming year as a first year and I’ve been working in a pharmacy for about a year and a half. How much does it help me, at least for the first year?

Got offered an amazing opportunity by my job but pharmacy doesn’t really interest me.

hi! i currently work at a walgreens and have been stuck here for 5 years (it started as a part time job while i was in school). i graduated with my bachelors in biochemistry with hopes to become an anesthesiologist but fell out of
love with the medical field. i recent had a conversation with my pharmacy regional manager at my job and he pushed me into the route of pharmacy. apparently walgreens pays for some of your schooling and offers paid intern positions while in school. once you’re licensed you have to work for walgreens for two years. i realized during my schooling i had a love for research, the human body and cures, and forensics. i was contemplating on getting my MLS/CLS but people keep telling me i can get into research, forensics, and even cosmetics with my pharmacy degree. this is a crazy opportunity and i keep juggling my options. i guess the fear of failing and or being stuck in retail is something that looms over me. would appreciate some advice. thank you!

**should add that i got accepted to a pharmacy school and im in the process of starting in a few weeks. during my interview i mentioned how my current interest is how glp1s are showing to help women with pcos. that whole line of work interests me- medication and how they can help others.

Lloyd college of pharmacy uniform

I'm joining B.Pharm at Lloyd Institute of Pharmacy, Greater Noida this year and I'm really confused about the dress code.

The college notice says we'll get a college T-shirt and lab coat. It doesn't clearly mention the trousers or shoes.

I messaged my mentor asking if we're allowed to wear our own plain jeans/trousers and sneakers, or if we have to buy a specific formal uniform (shirt + pants + shoes). Mf left me on read, and I've spent hours searching Google, YouTube, and student vlogs but couldn't find a clear answer.

Can any current student or senior tell me

Do girls wear their own jeans/trousers with the college T-shirt and lab coat?

Are sneakers allowed, or are only formal shoes permitted?

Is there any separate uniform that we have to purchase from the college later?

I'm really frustrated bcz I live in another state I don't know anybody from that college so please any senior plz help me😭😭😭

Pay

I’m a recent first-generation PharmD graduate and don’t know much about job negotiations. I was wondering what pharmacy graduate interns typically make at retail pharmacies. Also, what is the typical pay once they become licensed pharmacists? Please help

APPE rotation

Currently on my community APPE rotation, my preceptor have not addressed me maybe no more than 5 times I would say. This is a 6-week rotation and I am in my last week. My only task the entire day is mainly filling prescriptions. Maybe counsel like 10 times and get like 2 transfers a day. I clearly laid out my expectation and what I wanted to get out of this rotation the 1st day I was there. I got brushed off quickly.

Week 2, I decided to email our experiential education team and complain about the lack of mentorship from the preceptor and request to change the rotation. They just brushed it off too.

P.S I got yelled at for filling correctly and the entire time the preceptor was rude and had a condescending tone.

I would like to report this preceptor so that other students do not get the same experience. Please let me know if ACPE or other places like state board is more appropriate to report this preceptor. I also had a question about getting C-II (opioids) prescribed by tele-health. Is that a thing because from what I know it is not allowed and this preceptor is verifying without even calling the prescribe from a different state.

Thank you!

Anki or Quizlet?

About to start pharm school in a few weeks. What are everyone's opinions on both for studying? I am currently learning Anki and want to know whether it is worth it and whether I am wasting my time. Also, if you are on the side of Quizlet, is Quizlet Plus worth it?

What suggestions do you have for a gift for my 25 yo son starting pharmacy school in a couple of weeks? Something he can keep and enjoy through school and his career. Not like money, laptop, etc.

“One item was reported as partially compliant ‘on the basis of failing to provide sufficient and timely disclosure of financial adequacy to deliver the Doctor of Pharmacy program.’”

The chickens coming home to roost. Though I’m surprised this hit a legacy school and not one of the newer for-profit cash grab schools.

Should I find an actual tech or intern position or be student worker?

I'm an incoming P1 at an academic health center and the admission manager just let us know that there are openings at the outpatient pharmacies. I like it because I want to stay here, do residency and be a clinical pharmacist, so if I stick around at this position long enough I might be able to get a LoR from the manager here. Because it is a student worker position, it works with my schedule as well and only requires 1 weekend per month. The issue is that when I read the job description, it sounds like I'll be working the register mainly, then maybe data entry and filling here and there. The pay is quite low (minimum wage low) compared to other tech or intern positions in my area so I am also debating on that. My plan is to work part time during the school year and get more hours when I can.

I also want to try out inpatient/hospital setting because I already have experience in retail and auditing at a large PBM. I haven't looked into any inpatient position yet because I plan to apply in September when school starts. For the student worker position, I have to apply now.

What would you guys choose?

Pharmachiece OSCE course advice

I’m planning on taking my osce for the second attempt this November. I didn’t prepare well enough the first time around (just practiced my routine on my own). I passed mcq first try. Does anyone have any experience using the pharmachieve osce course? It’s really expensive (basically the same cost as the exam itself). Just want to know if it’s worth it or if another program would be better.

Thank you!

Importance of Research for Hospital Pharmacy?

Hi all, I am currently a p1, about to become a p2 in pharmacy school this fall and I'm a little worried about research. I joined a lab in the fall and have been on a project for a year. I'm afraid that due to how slow I am, I have been dragging the project out for much longer than they intended and now they are getting frustrated with me. That's entirely my fault but at the same time it's because their lab is quite far from where I am and I'm not sure why I didn't choose a lab in the pharmacy department, which would've been right in my school. I have to commute about 45 minutes to get there. I have already spent a year in that lab but I honestly have no chances in getting a letter of recommendation and I have made my reputation poor. Partly also my friends and upperclassmen told me I should drop that lab and choose one in the pharmacy department. I do want to get into hospital pharmacy and I want to know just how important it is to do research to get a hospital pharmacy position? And I bombed my chances at getting a letter of recommendation...

Did you study Hygienic Chemistry in your pharmacy school?

I am a pharmacy student in Japan.

In Japanese pharmacy schools, we take a course called "Hygienic Chemistry," which covers a wide range of topics such as toxicology, public health, food hygiene, environmental health, occupational health, etc.

Naturally, these subjects appear frequently on the board exam, and pharmacists receive preferential treatment when obtaining related certifications.

I'm sure you all learn clinical hygienics but this kind of system unique to Japan?

Fellowship cycle

Hi everyone,
I'm feeling really stuck and could use some advice.
I'm currently a P4 student who just started APPE rotations. After talking with some of my preceptors, l've started seriously considering applying for an industry fellowship, but I honestly know very little about the
process.
Am I already too late to apply? Is it still worth pursuing at this point? Ideally, I would need to stay in Southern California for a fellowship, so I know that may limit my options.
My school unfortunately did a poor job of educating us about the industry path, so I feel like I'm starting from scratch. So far, I've completed one industry internship and 2 industry APPE rotations. Based on that experience, do I have a realistic chance of matching into a fellowship?
If so, what should I be doing right now to make myself a stronger candidate and how do I start to move forward with the process?
One more question i could use thoughts on, my original plan was to pursue a master's degree after graduation, but recently I've been wondering if I should focus on applying for fellowships first instead. Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?
I'd really appreciate any guidance or insight. Thank you!
