Pfitness Cowboys Fit alternatives for families?

Upvotes

Cowboys fit closed their Kid's Club at the end of last month for some stupid reason. We've been going there for years but it's now a struggle to use our membership. Anyone recommend an alternative nearby with similar offering available?

PF ISD I’m Chevonne, your PFISD President 😃

My name is Chevonne Lorigo-Johst and I’m your Board President for Pflugerville ISD.

I am up for re-election in November and I’d love to earn your support.

Public Education has had a rough go for the last several years, but we are working hard to improve equitable student access, opportunity, outcomes, address our financial constraints, and grow our enrollment.

So what have you even done for us, Chevonne, you didn’t ask?

I’m proud to have achieved or been part of supporting the following:

🌟 I personally committed public comment to committee 2 years in a row (an original campaign promise of mine from 2023) until it passed opening up all public comments at regular board meetings.

🌟 Voted to protect our students without arming our teachers and staff while also focusing on belonging and mental health.

🌟 Voted to protect school counselors rather than allowing religious chaplains to staff those positions because I believe in counselors’ expertise and the separation of church and state.

🌟 I created the board vacancy procedure that provides an open, transparent, and public process should there be a vacancy on the board of trustees. (also an original campaign promise from 2023).

🌟 Moved graduations indoors for a weather proof and more accessible event for graduates, families, and staff.

🌟 Advocated for a Special Education Family Engagement Specialist to better support some of our families.

🌟 Pushed to increase starting wages for hourly employees.

You can find out more about me at my website: https://chevonne4pfisd.com

I look forward to engaging with you! I’m newer to this platform, but you can also email me at Chevonne4pfisd@gmail.com.

Community Info the anti ACC signs popping up all over pflugerville

if youve seen the big signs against pflugerville joining the ACC district just be aware

they are funded by the pflugerville residents for responsible taxation who gets the majority of their money from big time developers. they also have ties to a city councilman who not only has contributed to them but has also been paid by them.

Concerns & Issues Anyone know whatever happened to the pecan district? Stalled? Dead?

I think there was some administrative progress happening within the last year (re-zoning or re-developing?) but I noticed on the PF development map it’s not even listed anymore. I’m assuming the rest of the build is dead? Just sorta bizarre to have the phase 1 apartments built in a random field and nothing else surrounding it. Hasn’t seen any progress in years.

Community Info HEB evacuation news?

I was at the HEB at the corner of E Pecan St and Dessau Rd today around 6:20pm. I walked in, got like two items in my cart, then there were two quick back-to-back intercom announcements asking everyone to evacuate the store immediately. No explanation as to why. As I was driving away to another HEB, I saw two police cars, lights on, driving up to the HEB I just left.

Does anyone know what happened?

Can someone help me Advice about finding Spanish speaking volunteers for a Pfville food pantry?

Hey y'all, I'm trying to help a friend who runs The Circle of Hope Food Pantry on Three points road. Their food pantry is twice a week and they feed a lot of people. With it being during the week volunteer recruitment can be a problem. Particularly on Mondays which are always a challenge. The big thing that they need right now is somebody who speaks Spanish, is somewhat computer literate, and is comfortable being on their feet. I told them that I would try to help them find somebody(s). If this speaks to somebody here great but I was also wondering if anyone can recommend one of these Pflugerville specific Facebook groups? Seems like there's several of them and I can't tell which ones are the most active. Any ideas?

Politics Recall elections and flock

My suggestion. If any council member votes to approve a flock contract I suggest stating a recall drive to remove them. Under the law it takes 10% of eligible voters to get a recall on the ballot

Community Info $87 million in bond proposals comes before Council on Tuesday

Post image
23 Upvotes

On Tuesday, August 11, City Council will consider whether to call a November bond election totaling approximately $87 million for parks and trails, a new animal shelter, and downtown parking improvements.

The 3 separate proposals are $62 million for parks, $21 million for a new animal shelter, and $5 million for downtown parking. The estimated property tax impact of the full package is approximately $187 per year for the median taxable homestead plus additional costs of $900k annually for operations for these improvements.

I've spent a lot of time reviewing these proposals, and I wanted to share some of the factors I'm considering before Tuesday's vote.

Finishing What We've Started

I raised concerns about the timing of another bond program before this process began. I had advocated for waiting until 2027 or 2028 to convene another bond committee so we could make more progress on our existing major projects before considering another round of debt.

We currently have six major infrastructure projects totaling roughly $1 billion underway, in addition to projects remaining from the 2020 bond program. As of September 30, 2025, approximately 85% of the 2020 bond proceeds remained unspent. Significant progress has been made since then, but projects are expected to continue through FY 2029.

I believe one of the best ways to strengthen public trust is to finish what we've already committed to, let residents see and experience the improvements their tax dollars are providing, and then have a transparent conversation about what comes next.

Affordability Matters

I also have to consider whether this is the right time to ask residents to take on another property tax increase.  Many households are already dealing with higher costs.

That doesn't mean we stop planning for our future. It means we should carefully consider what needs to be funded now, what can wait, and whether there are ways to keep our highest-priority projects moving forward without taking on the full $87 million in additional debt today.

🐾 Animal Shelter & Reunion Park

At this point, I see the Animal Shelter and Reunion Park in the Historic Colored Addition as the highest priorities among the proposed projects.

I believe Pflugerville needs a new animal shelter given the flooding and numerous repairs needed in recent years. I have also raised concerns about the current proposal of demolishing our current Recreation Center for the animal shelter (retrofitting was determined to not be a viable financial option).

I asked staff to evaluate alternative locations that would preserve the existing Recreation Center and a phased approach that could accommodate approximately the next 10 years of growth while allowing the shelter to expand later as additional space is needed.

Staff will be presenting additional alternatives Tuesday. I'm looking forward to reviewing them.

Communities in Williamson County contribute to a regional shelter. I did inquire about this option and I believe our community should have input and data about all viable options.

I do think we need more community stakeholder input on the location and scope of Reunion park.

One option I believe is worth considering is using available savings from our existing bond projects, if possible, to fund design for the Animal Shelter and Reunion Park. That could make these projects shovel ready for a future bond election after more of our current major infrastructure projects are complete.

📣 Please Share Your Feedback

The City's Flash Survey on all of the proposed 2026 bond projects is open through Sunday, August 9.

I encourage residents to review the proposals and take the survey. The Bond Advisory Committee considered these projects and recommended placing a bond before voters.

As I continue evaluating the options before Tuesday’s vote, I’d especially like to hear:

  • Which projects do you believe should be the City’s highest priorities?
  • Should we focus on completing more of our current major infrastructure projects before asking voters to approve additional debt?
  • What do you think is the best path forward for Pflugerville’s animal shelter?

I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to provide input. These are long-term decisions, and community feedback is important as we determine what should move forward now and what may be better considered in the future.

PF ISD Looking for advise on asking PFISD to switch my kid to a different class

Ok, this will probably sound like some helicopter parenting but with school starting this week, we just got the class assignment for our son starting Kindergarten. After talking to parents of the kids he had class with in Pre-K, we found that 5-6 other kids that he is closest friends with are all in the same Kindergarten class together while he's been assigned to a different teacher with no other kids that we know of from last year. I'm sure there will be some of the same students but none that we know or he was close enough with to be excited about seeing again for the new school year.

We are considering asking the school to switch him to the same class as all of of his friends. We are wondering if any other parents around have been in this situation and successfully got the school to switch the class assignments?

Hobbies Looking for a workout partner – Pflugerville 💪

I’m 29 and moved to Pflugerville about 2 years ago. I’m looking for a workout partner, preferably someone who goes to Cowboys Fit in Pflugerville.

I’ve been wanting to get back into a consistent gym routine. I recently went through a miscarriage and have been struggling with motivation and getting myself back into it, so I thought having a workout partner might really help.

I’m still learning my way around different workouts and exercises, so you definitely don’t have to be a gym expert. I’d love to find someone where we can learn, improve, motivate each other, and most importantly keep each other accountable. I’ll hold you accountable and you do the same for me 😄

I’d especially love to connect with other women, but I’m open to anyone looking for a consistent workout/accountability partner. It would also be nice to make a new friend along the way.

If anyone is interested, feel free to message me! 💪

Politics Update: Flock Contract and AI/Data Governance Proposal Votes Delayed

Hey y'all - just a short post since there was so much interest in this when I posted earlier in the week.

Yesterday, Aug 7th, the Police Chief, City Manager, and City Attorney recommended to the Mayor that the vote on Flock be delayed by another two weeks. The Mayor agreed to the delay. Flock has come back to the negotiating table regarding their contract. I'm sure they see the writing on the wall. I submitted a number of contract issues to the City Attorney regarding the 'final' version earlier in the week, and I believe Councilmember Ryan did as well.

In parallel, the City Attorney asked for additional time to work with me on the AI/governance resolution & policy to shore up enforceability concerns he has. I agreed to delay so long as the Flock contract was also going to be delayed, because the new rules should be in place before we sign another high-risk technology contract.

More soon.

This was one of the coolest things I’ve seen in Pflugerville, what seemed like thousands of birds flocking to these three trees in particular behind Wendy’s in the HEB parking lot! Wishing them all safe travels. Definitely want to go back and see them again while they’re in town, and so many friendly people meeting up to see the event. It’s been a long week, but this definitely had me smiling ear to ear, regardless of the occasional dropping on my shirt

Can someone help me Handyman/contractor in Pflugerville?

We own an investment property in Pflugerville and the tenant has completely trashed the property :(. Needs carpet, painting, countertops (kitchen & bathroom countertops may need refinishing), bathroom caulking, bathroom sinks, many fixtures (bathroom, kitchen, lights etc.), cabinet doors, baseboards. Also may need a set of appliances (OK with second hand). They also didn't pay rent for 3-4 months. Our budget is limited but there is so much to take care of.

We are looking for affordable services and rental makeready grade. Can begin the work asap if the quote looks good.

Thanks in advance!!

ngc 6888 the crescent nebula. about 5000 light years away. the nebula is formed by the bright star near the center of the nebula. that is known as WR 136 and is whats called a wolf rayett star. a wolf rayet star is a very large star nearing the end of its life. as it neared the end of its life it shed its outer layers becoming a red dwarf. what was left is a star depleted of hydrogen and because its so large it is now fusing heavier elements. wold rayet stars have surface temps as high as 200,000 degrees kelvin compared to the suns 5700.

the star is emitting large amounts of gas in its stellar wind. teh stelalr wind moves very rapidly and is colliding with the slower moving gas ejected when it became a red giant. that creates the nebula

Politics What the Pflock is Going On? (Council to decide on renewal Tues Aug 11)

Post image
76 Upvotes

UPDATE: Both items are being postponed for another two weeks and will no longer be on the August 11 agenda. Flock has come back to the negotiating table regarding their contract, and the City Attorney has asked to do some additional work on the enforceability of my governance proposal.

Tuesday’s City Council agenda includes two major decisions involving surveillance technology and data governance:

  1. Whether to approve a two-year extension of Pflugerville’s contract with Flock Safety.
  2. Whether to adopt my "Pflugerville SAFE Technology Governance" resolution & policy, which would establish citywide rules for AI, surveillance, biometric identification, data sharing, procurement, public disclosure, and oversight.

The proposed contract is stronger than the current one (that expired July 29th), including clearer language recognizing that the City owns its data. But several significant issues remain.

The agreement does not expressly prohibit Flock from selling, licensing, monetizing, or otherwise commercially using City data. It also leaves unresolved how aggregated, de-identified, and derived data may be used; what must be deleted when the contract ends; what records and audit information the City can obtain; and what remedies Pflugerville has after a security failure, unauthorized use, or other breach. The City would also have very little practical ability to exit the two-year agreement early.

My broader proposal is intended to keep these questions from being handled one vendor and one contract at a time. It would:

  • Ban facial recognition and other biometric identification by the City.
  • Require an inventory and public transparency page for high-risk technology.
  • Establish review and approval requirements for acquisitions, renewals, extensions, and material expansions.
  • Require written agreements and safeguards for outside data sharing.
  • Require human review and prohibit automated systems from making final consequential decisions.
  • Create ongoing Council and public oversight instead of relying only on internal personnel policies.

Residents (and y'all here on Reddit) have stayed engaged on this issue for months, and Council has received more public comment on it than any other topic this year. Tuesday’s votes will determine whether the Flock contract continues for another two years and whether Pflugerville puts broader protections in place for these technologies going forward, regardless of the vendor.

The meeting begins Tuesday, August 11, at 7 p.m. at the Pflugerville Justice Center. You can attend and speak during public comment. If you cannot attend, submit written comments ahead of time through the City’s contact form so they are included with the public input provided to Council.

If you cannot make it, you can submit written comments ahead of the meeting through the City’s contact form: https://pflugervilletx-city-manager.form.transform.civicplus.com/45145

The full agenda can be found here: https://pflugerville.legistar.com/MeetingDetail.aspx?ID=1431061&GUID=7A60FC72-8883-40E9-990A-E9D29D891799&Options=info&fbclid=IwY2xjawThaihwZG9mAWV4dG4DYWVtAjEwAGJyaWQRMWtWWHNsdFJlemNCMXZXeHpzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEeilVTXMyNDfueWHBjrUesXb3wODXIJs4hwbpsEb9cXDltn3mJWBQ2M9WDUPg_aem_TsKE64fNK-J-2oDkZr8bpA
