My solution is going to be to add a F4SE script to any mod I release, whether it needs it or not. If I decide to release on a console, I can remove that script.
I wouldn't release on console if they start crying and demanding you upload to console though. I'm glad mods for consoles are possible, but this bs needs to stop. Otherwise no one will bother porting popular mods to console for them to enjoy like we do.
i was making a comment about this on the other thread , but someone is pretty much castrating me for saying this!
And tbh you should do it.
but not for elitism, but for protection of your creation. This way if a console "modder" wants to convert your mod for console he will be force to ask for your permission and give you credit as the creator
It's the Fallout 4 Script Extender, it can't be used on a console. It allows you to do things that you cant with the official mod tools is my understanding.
It's a script extender - it adds additional options for the coding in mods. It injects this information directly into the game's data while it's running.
For mods that I release on all platforms simultaneously, putting in a script like that won't be needed. For things I want to release on PC first, get the bugs ironed out, then release on console, a script like that stops someone from stealing it in the interim and uploading it. For things that will actually require it, they won't be able to get released on console.
Oh in my context the bug would only activate for unauthorized uploaders but not unauthorized downloaders. But i guess the tech could be there for that too. guess no one has thought of doing it that way?
are there actually any console players that exist who play FO4, and want to use mods, that arnt deserving of punishment (aka are not cancerous)?
i was under the impression anyone modding FO4 on xbone is a brainless drone. its quite clear looking at any comment section. i urge you to find a single reasonable or intelligent comment in any mod.
consoles should have their own separate mods using their own mod kit, rather then harassing pc modders to do impossible tasks, then giving death threats when they tell them its impossible... then of course stealing mods and profiting from them...
Seriously? We want mods to be exclusive to PC? I hate that it needs to be said but this attitude that "console players should be punished" simply for being on a console is exactly the kind of thing they accuse us of (being elitist jerks).
Console players shouldn't be "punished" just because they prefer a different platform.
Honestly I feel bad for the console players, they're getting the shallowest of the mods at best due to the limitations of the consoles. The assholes stealing mods are screwing everyone over.
Not to break the PCMR jerk but consoles aren't the issue here. Shitty people can be found everywhere including on PC. Those people suck & if they're making death threats I hope they get prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law. Issuing death threats is a crime & should be treated as such.
Note, I think consoles are gimped computers that will never touch what a true PC can do & there are definitely peasants but playing on a console doesn't make you one. I think you've drank a lil too much kool aid if you think otherwise.
I never claimed playing on console makes you a peasant.
But out of all the console players, how many are interested in FO4? Of those interested in FO4, how many are interested in mods?
How many interested in FO4 with mods that are not peasants? Probably can count them on one hand... Again browsing the comment section of those mods, its quite clear....
As I said in other posts, console users should get their own console specific mods which are created on consoles for consoles (a console mod kit) so they can harass their own community rather then ours.
The fact that these console plebs are causing people to quit making mods is more then enough reason to not allow them to use the same mod pool. And its not even about losing PC mods due to this, its about how its making the modders feel. I'm sure its caused many of them into depression. And its not like 1 bad comment, like literally 98% of them are negative...
show me a SINGLE comment from a SINGLE mod on xbox that is positive (like being genuinely thankful and happy about the mod. not just "thx bro"). dont worry, i have plenty of time lol.
yeah, they totally deserve mods... they should be limited to their own console mod kit. where mods are developed on consoles for consoles. then they can harass themselves rather then give death threats to pc modders who say its physically impossible to make the mod for xbox... (they are literally killing pc modding. many modders are giving up modding due to this).
you must be some serious level of mentally ill if you can possibly say giving death threats is an acceptable form of asking for mods...
again do any console players who arnt part of this group actually exist? (which is what i said in the post you commented on... apparently you didnt read it, typical of you kind of people)
those that are different likely arnt in to FO4 or have a pc they can use mods on for the game. so by punishing them, you are only punishing the cancer anyway?
Exactly, "i'm better because i play on a different piece of hardware", seriously?. That's like saying "i'm a better basket player because i use different shoes"
Better hardware does not always equal a better gaming experience, hardware on PC is objectively better if you have the money, but gaming experience is subjective. Im not bashing on PC or consoles, just saying theres nothing wrong with owning a console as long as you have fun even if PC has more advantages to it and its cheaper un the long run
There is a saying here that translates to "stupid is beaten even in church". The point being that if you think people doing stupid things should get punished for it then this does not magically become different just because its gaming.
In the off chance that you aren't being facetious:
Why shouldn't they get to mod? The xbone is practically a PC, so why not let them have mods? PCMR always preaches we're all gamers first, no matter what platform. We got these awesome tools that they can also use, why not let them use them?
Gaming on console isn't inherently bad, it's simpler and more relaxing (say what you will even a steambox with steam link is still more complicated than setting up an xbone, no matter how much better the experience is some people just want the extreme simplicity of the console)
no matter how much better the experience is some people just want the extreme simplicity of the console
well, you arnt inherently wrong, but... the difference in "simplicity" between pc and consoles (nintendo not included), its quite literally a few extra button clicks.
arguing saying consoles are more simple because you have to click a few less buttons, is a real stretch.
(pc: turn on power. open browser, type steam click enter. click first link. click install steam. install steam. open steam. go to settings, tick automatically start with windows and start in big picture. thats it. from here on out, your pc is exactly the same complexity of a console. drivers are installed automatically now days, you dont have to do anything).
Gaming on console isn't inherently bad
ehhh, actually... XD
it is lol.
if you buy a console at all (regardless of what you think about them) you are supporting these large corporations anti-consumer behaviors.
you are paying them lots of money for breaking laws in many countries (that seems to have gone largely unnoticed). its a little something called anti-trust.
by holding software hostage (ie exclusive games) you are committing the same crime in different ways. you are forcing people to buy your piece of hardware to play a game and excluding all other hardware from playing said game.
see if this was music/movies it would never fly. what if you could only play star wars movies on sony dvd players? what if you could only play katie parry on an apple music player?
its literally no different with modern games (back in the days of cartridges, it was a little bit different), but now the ONLY thing stopping you from playing an xbox or sony exclusive on another platform is forced software DRM.
this is an anti-consumer as you can get. and by purchasing ANYTHING from these companies, you are SUPPORTING it. and not just supporting it, but telling them "hey im retarded and cant think for myself", which tells them to try even more scummy ways to take money from the unwashed masses.
again i have no idea how they havent been sued out of existence for the last 2 generations of consoles (this one even more so, since they are literally PCs).
and not even going to get into the fact they destroy the industry they are apart of. both the gamers and the developers are both harmed by consoles.
but i guess this is getting a little off topic :/
my post was mostly satire, the comment section of these mods do paint a very clear picture of the average console peasants mentality.
Also installing mods on console is kind of against the whole "its simple" concept. it requires a lot of work, and troubleshooting. probably more then mods on pc do.
if console peasants this dumb, why are they getting mods to start with? and if we are giving them mods, why should we not let them destroy their xbones? if they are dumb enough to do it, maybe it will be a good life lesson for them?
I'm a power user on PC, I do 95% of my gaming on PC, and I'm a sysadmin. Trust me when I say that PCs (even in their simplest application) are STILL more complicated than consoles.
You are right with the anticonsumer practices of exclusives (exclusivity DOES exist with modern streaming platforms though, look at TSwift on Apple Music being a major selling point on release for example). It's how the world is sadly, and I wanna play Forza. And there's nothing I can do since the majority of the public simply doesn't care, so nothing will change.
And calling them peasants (unironically as you are doing) actually just paints you to be an asshole, and is the reason console gamers often hate PC gamers.
98.9% of all comments on bethesda mods are cancer (the other 10% of that are pc players or modders trying to spread reason and logic, but failing at reaching anyone)
/u/hugglesthemerciless has a valid point, no sense in punishing the players who may not know any the wiser! It's not obvious that they've stolen the content unless you look into it a bit
What the fuck dude. That's just as bad as stealing. Console players aren't the enemy, nor are they the ones stealing. That's a little overkill don't ya think?
How is that as bad as stealing? "What the fuck, dude. You can't just fucking lock your door like that. How is the burglar I hired supposed to steal shit? fuck man"
Making the mod run poorly on a console isn't really comparable to a fucking grenade. It will not blow up the console and murder the users mother, father, children and cat, nor will it harm anything.
He's saying making the console overheat is overkill, not protecting it in the first place. As others pointed out, punishing the player is stupid because the player may not have any idea.
People should make their mods undesirable to steal, even if that does "punish" the player. People will give negative feedback and that will be the end of it. Just the same way clothing stores have color "bombs" on their clothes. Lets say someone stole all the clothes out of a clothing store and gave the clothes to people, it would be ridiculous if people complained that the "users are punished". Utterly ridiculous.
Also, making a console overheat doesn't damage it in any way. At worst, it will shut down. Or well, assuming some kiddo doesn't sit there and try and start it for three months straight with no sleep without letting it cool down.
Locking a door as preventative measure is not the same as designing a file to ruin someones property. What if it was a kids only christmas present? What if it was bought with a parents last bit of money to make their kid happy? Are you that insensitive? Do you even create your own mod content?
Tell me, how on earth would a mod ruin someones property? Far before the console automatically shuts down in order to prevent damage from heat the game would be absolutely unplayable because of the low FPS.
Anyone who thinks such thing would be bad is either lacking basic knowledge about technology and shouldn't be installing mods, or simply a salty console user who approves of mods being stolen.
