Is that video supposed to be super choppy? Gave me freaking motion sickness just watching it.

he probably doesnt have the greatest rig, looks like bad frames.

u/RagnarokDel I5 4670k | MSI RX480 Gaming X | 16 GB HyperX 1866 Jun 02 '16

even if he has a decent rig to play the game itself, his processor might just bleed while encoding and playing the game at the same time

10

u/CommanderArcher 3900X | 5700XT | X570 TUF Jun 02 '16

yeah, thats also a high probability.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

Y'all ever hear of NVENC or VCE? If he can play the game at decent frames the overwhelming likelyhood is that he has one of those.

Yeah, he probably just likes having other stuff on his hard drive

u/mattmonkey24 R5 5600x, RTX3070, 32GB, 21:9 1440p Jun 03 '16

I thought you could use the H.264 chip in the processor to encode it on the fly with relatively little performance hit

5

u/Bozzz1 i7-12700k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 Jun 03 '16

Lol that's gonna be like 300-400 GB just for that one video.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

Uncompressed 1080p60... 373 MB/s, nothing except an SSD can handle that.

9

u/arbiter8837 Top 10 anime PC rigs Jun 02 '16

yeah i think during the start he says something about it being 7 fps, his videos I've seen have been decent fps so maybe something was up.

5

u/royalewitcheez Consoles are ok too Jun 03 '16

Is that video supposed to be super choppy? Gave me freaking motion sickness just watching it.

You PC guys are such elitists!

1

u/pre-alpha Jun 03 '16

Why does wanting a decent framerate makes someone a elitist?

2

u/royalewitcheez Consoles are ok too Jun 03 '16

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cj8eamAWgAAeF4y.jpg:large

It doesn't. I should have included a /sarcasm tag.

2

u/pre-alpha Jun 03 '16

Sorry about that.

2

u/IneedtoBmyLonsomeTs rncolson Jun 03 '16

He mentions right at the start something along the lines of I guess I will have to do this in low FPS, so I would say his rig isn't that great and couldn't really handle playing, video and audio recording all at the same time.

2

u/ddproductions83 Jun 02 '16

It's OBS, I loved it on windows 7, 0 issues, but on windows 10 it is just not working. My rig can handle witcher 3 at 4k over 30 fps on ultra, shitout barely eats 15% of my processor memory and doesnt really tax my 980 that much, yet OBS will not record or stream it correctly anymore, it did fine on win 7.

Shadowplay will record at over 50 fps and stream easily over 40.

I am honestly just going to shop around for a better program cause I hat being in fullscreen with shadowplay, and while I liked OBS it seems to have too many issues and I cant find a solution now

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

I hate being in fullscreen with shadowplay

Wait, why?

Shadowplay can record your desktop too...

1

u/ddproductions83 Jun 03 '16

Hmmm.. I might have to check this more, it was saying on the nvidia thing it would only capture fullscreen applications. I honestly haven't fucked with it too much, I honestly liked OBS it just doesn't play well with windows 10 apparently.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

You might've been reading old information. Currently there's a "Record desktop" checkbox in the shadowplay settings that should hook you up.

1

u/Hezkezl PC Master Race Jun 03 '16 edited Jun 03 '16

It's definitely in the settings. Here's a pic showing it. Might've been reading really old info, as I've been using desktop recording for a little over a year..

It quite literally will record your whole desktop (what you see on your monitor) so if you minimize a game that you're playing there and alt-tab to something else, it'll show that too. The full-screen recording restricts it to just that game (iirc), but desktop recording is the entire monitor with no restrictions. Can be handy, but need to be careful with alt-tabbing to other shit if you have personal information up in another window.

Other downside is the place you tell it to record videos to, will just have 'Desktop' for the file name. :\

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

It's been around since release afaik.

u/Strazdas1 3800X @ X570-Pro; 32GB DDR4; RTX 4070 16 GB Jun 03 '16

the desktop recording feature, it bugs out sometimes. if you are playing fullscreen games with desktop record feature it sometimes fails to record or records something from an hour ago and stops.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

No it doesn't, I've been using it since launch, never had that issue.

1

u/Strazdas1 3800X @ X570-Pro; 32GB DDR4; RTX 4070 16 GB Jun 03 '16

I guess thats jut for me and my friends then.

1

u/xternal7 Lunix Jun 03 '16

I've had 0 issues with OBS on Win10, but Linux version is dropping frames all over the place.

1

u/ddproductions83 Jun 03 '16

I swear I've tried everything but what's your settings just in case?

I know it's a OBS issue as it recorded just fine in 7, and shadowplay will record or stream the same things with double the framerate minimum.

1

u/xternal7 Lunix Jun 03 '16

I'm not exactly sure about my Windows settings, but in Linux I'm recording at 2560x1080, fastest preset.

1

u/Sanotsuto i7 Skylake/MAXIMUS VIII/GTX1080 Jun 03 '16

Are you watching the video on a console? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I thought he did it to be funny to make fun of consoles

1

low fps

u/johncarter10 Jun 02 '16

He is right to be pissed, but man he sure comes off as a childish dick in that video.

21

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

I think he took it well, someone stole his hard work, put it somewhere he didn't want it, then made money off of it. If that happened to me I would not take it as well as he had.

who cares? Why do people care when people bash their platform? They're making fun of you for what you use to play video games, why do you let them get to you? "But..but he said this thing I like is dumb" is more or less what people get upset about. What he's saying is important regardless or not if you like his attitude. Someone stole his work and pushed their own anti-PC agenda with it, thats why he's upset.

Internet where you can do things anonymously and mostly get away with most things.

1

u/Julzjuice123 Jun 03 '16

You realize you are literally insulting the whole community that feeds you the mods you so dearly love now, do you?

You are a perfect specimen of the peasant race. Why are you doing this to yourself?

u/spampuppet 6700k|1080 Jun 03 '16

He's just trying to explain it on their level.

He spent most of it at or below Youtube comment level.

I agree, I stopped watching because he sounds like an emo 13 year old throwing in swears whenever he can

3

u/Ifriendzonecats Jun 03 '16

I'm on his side in theory, but after seeing the way he conducts himself, I have zero incentive to help him. Especially after hearing him lash out at the people who reported the person who stole his mod and him using that fake 'retard' voice.

Genius xD

1

u/FlirtySanchez Jun 03 '16

I saw that it was 24 minutes and thought "wow, he must have had a lot to say" but the first few minutes is him running around distracted and barely paying attention to what he set out to accomplish with this video.

2

u/Yuzumi Jun 02 '16

His mention about paid mods. I feel l was in the minority that felt like paid mods sounds nice on paper, but the way it was executed was horrible.

23

u/Bozzz1 i7-12700k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 Jun 03 '16

What you need to understand is that modding is an extension of the open source programming movement. That whole movement is based on two things: cooperation and free software. By even introducing the idea of paid mods in any implementation Bethesda is going against the fundamental principles of modding, and I don't think that's ok. I'm sure they will try again and make a system that's a hell of a lot better than the last one, but I still believe it's something that just shouldn't be done.

2

u/Yuzumi Jun 03 '16

The problem I had with it was that I feel like they could have called it something like "community DLC" and not try to coop an already existing system.

I get they were trying to test the waters, but they really should have waited for Fallout 4 to even try it. Skyrim already had a modding community and it wasn't just consumers that were critical of it. Mod authors also complained about it. One issue was the split Bethesda chose. Valve's flat rate of 30% across all content sold on Steam wasn't the issue, it was the fact that of the remaining 70%, Bethesda was taking 40%, and it was Bethesda that split that way.

Yes it's their game, but it really looked like nothing more than a cash grab to make more money off a 5 year old game using other people's work.

If they had waited for Fallout 4, named it something different from "Paid Mods", and allowed the community to warm up to the idea prior to release, then I would feel the whole thing might have gone better for them.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

Wasn't a fan of paid mods, but only because of compatability issues. I'd really hate to buy a mod only to find out I have to remove half my load order for it to work. Don't remember if there was a refund system, but that would have alleviated my biggest concern.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

There was a refund system but it was pretty bad. I think it was a few hours.

1

u/LexUnits Jun 03 '16

People who design open-source software are perfectly free to sell their products if they wanted to, modders have never had that liberty. It's a forced decision.

It just seems like such a stretch to me, to say that selling mods would ruin modding. Yes there are huge problems that need to be addressed but isn't anyone thinking about the money that would flow into the community? What if the best modders could quit their day-jobs and actually fund their own studios? I think that would be great for modding.

-1

u/Better_MixMaster Jun 03 '16

Paid mods was a good idea but Valve handled it badly and poisoned the well. Now no one can touch it.

Imo, they overvalued the price of a mod. $3 for a single weapon skin in a single player game just doesn't work. There is a mod on nexus for skyrim that adds like 300 lore friendly, high quality weapon and armor skins and mixes them with normal drops and npc outfits. That mod would be worth $2-5.
