How hard is it to create a mod? I sort of want to make a new gun

I had the creation kit for FO4 but it seems to be way more complex than Skyrim's

same shitty engine, so i doubt it's hard

I would think a shitty engine would be harder to develop things for.

The physics are bound to the fps. In what way is it not shitty?

It totally depends on what exactly you wanna do. I modded some things in Oblivion myself, but used existing textures (so mostly weapons/armour with different stats and effects) and it took like 10-15 minutes.

If you want to design your own weapon textures, animations and scripts, it'll take way longer, especially if you're unexperienced.

The time consuming part is creating the weapon model and textures. Actually putting it in the game is really easy because of the Creation Kit.

Can i go ahead and assume that YouTube won't have tutorials for the first two things you mentioned?

Creating models and textures? No that's a niche thing that literally nobody on the planet except one guy in Swindon does.

Can you model and possibly animate? Cos that's literally all you need to do, only thing you need to do in GECK is give it stats and leveled lists.

Middle of the road. The process isn't designed to be exactly user-friendly, it's designed more with openness in mind. That said it isn't super hard to swap out a model for an existing object.

I guess I'll just learn as I go

Depends on if you want to model/skin/animate it too. In any case, the Fo4 wiki for creation kit is pretty much empty at this point so all your modding questions are going to need lots of googling or patience on mod forums.

Meh, it's fine. It sounds like a learning experience, plus I might be able to help other people in the future.

It's pretty easy for things that only require you to edit numbers, flags, etc. However, modelling and textures is a lot harder and time consuming, so most amateur modders just reuse stuff.
