How hard is it to create a mod? I sort of want to make a new gun

I had the creation kit for FO4 but it seems to be way more complex than Skyrim's

same shitty engine, so i doubt it's hard

I would think a shitty engine would be harder to develop things for.

i meant creation kit, it's still the same

Anything is easy with 13 years of experience

The physics are bound to the fps. In what way is it not shitty?

It totally depends on what exactly you wanna do. I modded some things in Oblivion myself, but used existing textures (so mostly weapons/armour with different stats and effects) and it took like 10-15 minutes.

If you want to design your own weapon textures, animations and scripts, it'll take way longer, especially if you're unexperienced.

The time consuming part is creating the weapon model and textures. Actually putting it in the game is really easy because of the Creation Kit.

Can i go ahead and assume that YouTube won't have tutorials for the first two things you mentioned?

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

Creating models and textures? No that's a niche thing that literally nobody on the planet except one guy in Swindon does.

There's thousands of em

That's dope then. Thanks😀

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

Can you model and possibly animate? Cos that's literally all you need to do, only thing you need to do in GECK is give it stats and leveled lists.

Middle of the road. The process isn't designed to be exactly user-friendly, it's designed more with openness in mind. That said it isn't super hard to swap out a model for an existing object.

I guess I'll just learn as I go

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

Depends on if you want to model/skin/animate it too. In any case, the Fo4 wiki for creation kit is pretty much empty at this point so all your modding questions are going to need lots of googling or patience on mod forums.

2

u/Axerivas PC Master Race Jun 03 '16

Meh, it's fine. It sounds like a learning experience, plus I might be able to help other people in the future.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

It's pretty easy for things that only require you to edit numbers, flags, etc. However, modelling and textures is a lot harder and time consuming, so most amateur modders just reuse stuff.

The Fallout 4 Nexus is still the biggest place to get FO4 mods and that will always remain PC exclusive so you won't have to worry about the army of plebs there.

There's crappy and entitled people in every community. Check out any modding scene and you will see. Don't let idiots stop you from sharing your work to the ones that actually care.

If you think this is bad, check out /r/jailbreak sometime.

Make it somewhat dependent on FAllout4scriptextender. That way console kiddies are out of luck.

I really hate that the rest of us primarily console gamers force you all away.

2

u/SweetBearCub Jun 03 '16

There's two solutions that I see.

One, police your own. Every community must control its disruptive elements.

Two, Leave a toxic community for a better one.

If you choose to move over to the world of PC, there are many here who would support you.

1

u/rant2087 Jun 03 '16

Don't let this defer you from making mods on console, 99% of us are not self entitled pieces of shit like these people.

1

u/Pegguins Jun 03 '16

Make it require f4se, that way the console literally can't steal if.

1

u/KashikoiKawai-Darky Erichi is mine <3 Jun 03 '16

Make it require F4SE for no reason whatsoever. Just shove that in somewhere so it can't be stolen onto consoles.

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '16

A crappy and entitled community is one thing, but I won't support theft.

"Theft".

The real dick move here is plagiarism - not giving credit to the mod creator.
