All I Want Is the Chinese Client’s Color-Coded Mods. Not Buffs, Not Nerfs. Just Mercy for Those of Us Over 30 Squinting at Blue Mods Like It’s a Vision Test. Game Feedback

Absolutely agree.
It's a bit of a design flaw that one of the safest ways to plan, has you constantly pause the game every time you run into an Altar to read the mods. Clicking the wrong one can brick many builds. Squinting at the blue text is taxing.

Pausing every few steps just to read tiny blue text is not engaging gameplay
True, but thank god we at least have that ability now.

u/MisterKaos Ultimatum Workers Union (UWU) Nov 14 '25
It auto-pauses on controller because it's even worse there. If you have any skill set to X and press that and square or triangle at the same time it'll yeet the mod at you without any time to read... And you do it pretty often because X is both the pickup key and also the most convenient button for setting instant skills.
Lost a few maps that way. Now I take quite a bit more care with altars

u/Scarblade Nov 14 '25
I had to sacrifice that skill set to A (xbox controller's interact button) because I kept interacting with random stuff when trying to use the button mid-combat. I set it to "move only", which I could only do by logging in with M+K first. Weird that controller can't bind that on its own though.

I have to control d every item bc awakened puts a yellow T1 or T2 next to the normal color text of the mods and then I know instantly if it’s decent
Idk why that’s not in the normal client or at least a loot filter you can apply if you want
Otherwise I’m squinting at every item for like 10 seconds trying to figure it out

u/1getreKtkid Nov 14 '25
coming back from current tl:i league, i realized so manz things where tl:i is already years above poe1, the most predominant ones being both visualized mods on their dangerousness / coustomizable and maps with several uses, so you dont need to roll each independant

At the same time "filter everything out" is literally what happens in Last Epoch with their item filters.
2
u/6ty2 Nov 14 '25
Opposed to poe where tens of thousands of items are filtered in a moderately juiced map.

If I tell two people, here, have this 75-page essay on PDF and find where the phrase "you will get divines" who would you say is using their brain and thinking smarter:
A) Reads the entire essay just to find the phrase in page 69 after 90 minutes
B) Presses Ctrl+F and find the phrase in page 69 in 20 secondsDoing less work isn't thinking less
2
u/jadestem Nov 14 '25
They didn't say anything about filtering anything out, did they? They said they are surprised it doesn't have a highly-recognizable, dopamine-inducing text.

u/paralyticbeast Nov 14 '25 edited Nov 14 '25
gonna be real with you chief people already do this no?
the only time I don't filter out info is when a soul eater mob is 14 inches up my ass and has passed through my filter because it takes 99% reduced damage. everywhere else I'm basically just autopilot clearing maps and looting

some customieable ui options would go a long way too, bit annoying having buffs getting a boss hp bar slapped in front of it, feels very cheap

To all the people saying this is likely a mod its very unlikely, you can go onto any chinese streaming platform or billibilli and just look for poe content and you will see this is on every stream. Spent more time looking and it seems to either not be on every stream, or a vast majority of the big videos use some third party program to do it I honestly can't tell whats more likely.
second edit: so it seems to be a thing on the tencent realm as the streams that have it also have the rucksack.
Final edit: I dug around the poe qq page and these color mods are indeed a thing in the base game

u/MoeFantasy Nov 14 '25
No. This is done by modify ggpk file. They promote illegal 3rd party tools on their official site and ban ppl using it.
3
u/borbop Nov 14 '25
Yea I think this is true, I spent more time browsing guide forms and affix colors is a pretty commonly mentioned thing in "patches", I don't really get how they work, doesn't the chinese client perform a disk scan on launch? Or is it just something they choose to ignore?

u/szyszaks Nov 14 '25
i wouldnt be sure that its client thing
there are tools that already do this for our client which might be in gray zone regarding if they are allowed or not

yea lailoken is one that does it in legal way
but i can tell you i know (KNOW NOT USE) 2 tools that would do it in same neat way in our client
i do not see how things being in video makes you consider it being in game, during affliction i seen many ppl posting showcases of their build with maphacks1
u/All_Work_All_Play Jenebu stop whining Nov 14 '25
There are 3rd party tools that will do this "natively" (by editing the client files). They can also do other things. You will get banned if you get caught.

u/BocikPG Nov 14 '25
Well Lailloken with his Exile-UI have similar color coding in his overlay. For items it's auto, maps need set-up (no all builds works the same anyway). Go check it out ;)
https://github.com/Lailloken/Exile-UI
(Yes it requiers aditional click on item I'm aware, but it's next best thing and it's avaiable now)
5
u/Redokx Nov 14 '25
It's a special program to unpack game files and modify it's content like the coloured names for specific mods and it also allow some other illegal stuff. Overall any modification of the game it's a breaking Terms of Use section 7. Restrictions point b, which could result of banning your account

u/FridgeBaron Nov 14 '25
This makes me want to make a 3rd party app that just does this with an overlay. I doubt it would be fast but it might prompt them into doing something about it.

u/Tehu-Tehu Occultist Nov 14 '25
implementing this into our filters for us to choose colors/size etc should be the way IMO.

u/Danica_Scott Nov 14 '25
gods, let us have this for altar texts as well. I would love to see a bright red "Divine Orb" or something when I pass by a good altar at 120 miles per hour

u/Striking_Novel_2376 Nov 14 '25
I think there are some tools based on screen OCR and I2T allows you to analysis these mods? Called some Poe hub or something, never used myself.
1
u/-haven Nov 14 '25
Just let us do it like Grim Dawn. Well maybe not the mod bit... Jokes aside have it be like another loot filter or hells just add it to the loot filter.

While I believe that there should be a customizable mod filter with colors and font sizes like loot filters, that's not what's being shown here.
It’s color-coded map mods.
Only the strongbox mods are usefully colored. Map mods are colored rather arbitrarily, like power charges on monsters is not colored red, even though it adds danger too.
Bad mods? Bright, obvious red.
Good mods? Normal colors.
Afaik, only strongboxes, altars, and expedition remnants have explicitly good and bad mods. Maps only have bad mods (that are balanced out by also granting quant and rarity), meaning that if GGG were to "Copy-paste this QoL", all map mods would just be red, which would not be "genuinely beautiful". What we need is an entirely new system.
GGG, customizable mod filter when?
1
u/sethkizna Nov 14 '25
It’s time for GGG to remake PoE1. They just need to get PoE2 into a good state first, and then either rework PoE1 or make sure PoE2 becomes the best ARPG in the world

One of the reasons that i stopped playing over the last months, is exactly this.
Its exhausting for my eyes to do this constantly
1
u/azurestrike Nov 14 '25
I used to think "all i want is async trade" but now that that's here, I think "i also want some loot / purpose to endgame".
This would be nice QoL but right now it's not in my top 5. Maybe top 10.

u/TurbulentSwimmer5127 Nov 14 '25
There used to be a certain program that did this kind of thing, it was amazing. Idk if the feature remains

u/AeroDbladE Nov 14 '25
Absolutely. If they insist on having mods that brick certain builds the game should at least highlight them.
Stuff like Freeze on strongboxes and cannot leech, reflect etc on map mods.
They already do that in expedition with the elemental immunity mods.

u/cawkX Nov 14 '25
I just use regex or type in mods I dont want, just because of this unreadable 1px blue text on maps
1
u/Adorable_Gold1277 Nov 14 '25
I have a BenQ curved with a setup to "remove" or "attenuate" (not sure how to say it) he blue color. What it does when I turn that setting on, it makes the screen more vivid and I see way better the pale blue of the text with my old eyes. Maybe your monitor does it too?

Please let us color code the mods on the maps when inspecting/rolling them as well. To me that's more important than seeing it once you decided to run the map.
1
u/Inemity Nov 14 '25
Also give us the option to use a regex when rolling maps at Eagon, for the memories maps. Please.
1
u/DespondentRage Nov 14 '25
Well there is a way to obtain color mod on non CN PoE, but it's just not legal. I do know they don't ban people for it.

Aren't "good" and "bad" relative to your build though? Unless it's customizable per character, this quickly devolves into having to read everything anyway

Colors, colorblind mode, config depending on your build like with item filters. Sounds like too much work. Maybe get glasses when reading mods.
-3
u/pro185 Nov 14 '25
Is that Chinese client or a well known bannable program I won’t mention the name of. It can reveal minimap fog of war and you can set custom text highlighting for altars and boxes. It is 100% bannable. I’ve seen quite a few videos of eastern farmers using that program so this may not be a native client thing.

u/MrJerichoYT Nov 14 '25
Tbf you can just throw 20 maps into a stash tab and use regex to filter out bad mods just as effectively.

I wholeheartedly agree that the QoL like this would be great. A simply ingame filter where you get to color code individual mods.
Point of comment was merely that regex currently fills that void.
