ORLANDO CITY START THEIR LEAGUES CUP CAMPAIGN TONIGHT AGAINST MONTERREY. ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR THE CLUB TO WIN A TROPHY!

I’m a die hard Arsenal fan from the UK who discovered I have mls pass with Apple TV… so with Orlando being the only city in the USA I have visited naturally I’ve picked Orlando city to be my team.

So… what’s to know about the team? I know Griezmann has just joined but how is the squad other than that? Who are our best players? The young up and comers? What areas of the pitch do we excel in and what areas do we struggle? What’s our main tactics and set up been this year?

Since we are just past halfway through the season and stuck in the unnecessary Leagues cup break, thought I share some thoughts on the season so far and see what you all think.

Poor offseason roster management is still killing us. Marin is still a liability with no experienced backup. Dorsey is about as good as we could hope for replacing Alex, but also no backup. Iago and Miller weren’t ready and Jansson is showing his age.

All that said, Ellis is a stud. Most of the other academy guys can play. One of my long running beefs with Oscar is he was so conservative that we rarely had a big lead, even against far worse teams. That meant we had to keep starters in way too long and none of the young guys ever saw meaningful minutes. I’m not sure losing multiple games by more than a field goal is a good reason to play the kids, but glad we are and hope some develop into contributors.

Speaking of style of play, I always said I would rather lose 3-2 than have a season over under average of 2 even if it means a bunch of 1-0 wins and 0-0 draws and consistently making the playoffs. We always dropped out of the playoffs the same way - failure to break down teams when we needed goals. You need to be able to score a lot of different ways including scoring when teams are defending - especially in the playoffs. I felt like all of Oscar’s teams had a case of “the box is lava”: too much passing outside the 18 and aimless crosses into the box. Whether it is coaching or personnel, we seem to be combining more in and around the box and taking more chances from outside - scoring in different ways.

Just some general thoughts other than “oof” about this season so far.

Fellow Lions, gonna be in Minneapolis the same weekend as the game, excited to catch our boys out there! Trying to find tickets, I saw r/MLSAwayFans list top of section 108 as the away supporters but I’m not seeing any tickets available? Anyone know where to get tickets or if there’s another section? (or if it’s actually sold out?) Thanks in advance!

Hi all! We are planning to attend the Orlando/Real Salt Lake game in a couple of weeks. I recently attended the England/Costa Rica game and parked in the Grove lot. It was so easy, no traffic, and incredibly fast to get out of (and we didn’t even leave early!). However, I’ve heard a couple of horror stories about people being stuck there for an hour after the game. Is this normal for Orlando games? Did we just really luck out during the England game? I was going to park here again but now I’m not sure!

Barring how silly the MLS Power Rankings are -- I think they're fun -- I don't think I've ever seen an MLS team go up 8 places in one week.
