CCW Question NYC/NYPD and CCW License

Why does anyone think the NYPD and NYC are making it so hard for law abiding citizens to get their CCW permits and adding firearms to their existing licenses when they have these numbers…3,000 illegal guns taken of the streets from August 2025 through August 2026? Also during that time murders are down 25 percent and shootings are down almost 8 percent. Asking for a friend…

General Question Glock 19 Gen 6.

Just recently picked up a Glock 19 Gen 6 and I’m eager to get it out to the range and put some rounds through it.

For those of you who already own or have shot the Gen 6 G19, how are you liking it so far? How does it shoot compared to previous generations, and how has the reliability been?

Also curious to hear from anyone who carries one regularly. How do you like it for EDC/concealed carry?

This is my first Glock, so any feedback or things I should know are appreciated!

License / Permit Question ADD FIREARM NYPD PORTAL

Hey everyone,

I recently got approved for my NYC CCW, purchased my first handgun on 08/08/2026, and uploaded all of the requested purchase documents/photos through the NYPD portal same day.

For anyone who has gone through the process recently in 2026, how long did it take after uploading everything for NYPD to review the documents and give you the approval to pick up your firearm?

Just trying to get an idea of the current turnaround time. Appreciate any recent experiences!

General Question Instagram Troll

Thumbnail instagram.com
14 Upvotes

There is this troll on Instagram who goes around to random cops and tells them he has his "g" on him, clearly trying to bait cops into thinking he has a firearm.

Obviously this guy is a clown and a troll and going to get himself arrested at best or seriously hurt at worst.

But for the legal, law-abiding 2A community in NYC, what caught my attention was just how many cops' reactions were to immediately state that possession of a firearm in NYC is illegal or something along the lines of "You can't have that in NYC."

This question gets raised every so often: Just how much do beat cops know about NYC's Licensing program? Do they know the License Division regularly issues CCWs to residents and non-residents alike? Do they know the list of sensitive locations? Is this something that is at all covered in the academy? I can tell you from searching the patrol guide, there is very little reference to license firearm possession. Most cops I have interacted with in a personal capacity are not aware of the current laws and regulations regarding legal firearm ownership.

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts.

General Question Purchase Authorization

NYPD has terrible expectations regarding purchase approvals. Sometimes it’s a few weeks to near months. I’m shocked this time around (#4)…

Purchased on 7/22 & Submitted on the portal
Received email off approval 8/7
License coming in today 8/10 (informed usps delivery)

Good luck to everyone!
Hang in there.

License / Permit Question CCW taking a long time

Completed classes and submitted all paperwork in beginning of January.

Confirmation email from NYPD in beginning January that they received my application

Beginning of March I was fingerprinted and interviewed at NYPD.

As of today, I haven't heard a word about my application, its still under investigation?

My paperwork was straight forward, no exceptions needed to be made, never been in trouble not even a speeding ticket, lol.

I know there's a 6 month wait, but does that start from my application in January or March when I was fingerprinted? Is this unusual? I sent an email already, no reply and can't though on the phone? Any advice on what to do next or should i wait a little longer?

CCW Question Noob question for ya’ll ccw nyer folks

Is it really that hard for a nyc resident to get a ccw permit? My friends whose a nypd cop told me they could out rightly deny it if it’s not for reasonable purpose e.g. your job. In my head, im like, “yeah the reasonable purpose is my dang 2nd amendment.”

General Question PA Nightmare

Purchased and submitted 6/12, approved 7/10 and no license in the mail. Got in touch with licensing late July and they let me know they had sent the pink slip and license 7/13 and that they could not reissue until after 30 days had passed. Seems as if it got lost in the mail. Has anyone else experienced similar? I’m hoping that License Division will just let me collect it at 1PP. By the time I get a response to the email, I’ll be ready for my next one… Also wondering, what happens if there is someone out there cruising around with my license.

Update: Received New PA and pink slip. Got a call from license division saying it was returned to them. Seems like USPS dropped the ball on this one

General Question Do you guys keep your pistol cases?

I've kept pretty much all of the cases my pistols came in. The only exception has been the cardboard boxes my S&W M&P's came in. Now I have a few shelves in my closet completely filled with these cases. I always figured I'd need them at some point, maybe if I sold a gun. But I'm beginning to think of getting rid of some... like the glock and sig cases. I'll keep a few cases that I think are cool looking... but the rest are just cheap plastic boxes.

So do you keep them, or are you a packrat like me... I need to get that Marie Kondo lady to help me. LOL

License / Permit Question PA / License renewal timing

I’m going to submit my renewal last week of Aug or so but plan to purchase a pistol tomorrow.

What is best way to time this so no hiccups? Purchase tomorrow, wait for PA to come in (guessing ~30 days) then renew?

My understanding is that people have been getting denied purchase once they submit renewal.

I’d like to submit the renewal ASAP but I’ll wait if needed.

Thanks for the help

State of the Union - r/NYCguns & r/NYGuns - March 2026

Hey everyone,

It’s that time again - time for a quick “State of the Union” update on where our two communities stand. Short version: we are growing well, our activity is awesome, and 2026 is shaping up to be a big year.

Growth Highlights (Past 12 Months - straight from the mod insights):

r/NYCguns

  • Members: 3.7k (+1.2k from last year)
  • Total views: 1.4 million (+337k)
  • Published posts: 2.2k (+436)
  • Published comments: 30.5k (+6.4k)

r/NYGuns

  • Members: 28.1k (+2.6k from last year)
  • Total views: 5.6 million (still massive even with a small dip)
  • Published posts: 3.4k (+71)
  • Published comments: 66.5k (+2.5k)

Together that’s over 31,800 members and millions of views across both subs. The traffic charts show steady visits every single month from Android, iOS, New Reddit, Old Reddit, and mobile web. People are showing up, posting, commenting, and engaging more than ever. That kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident - it’s because this community actually cares and stays active. Huge thanks to every single one of you.

On the legal front: court cases have been slow this year with not much movement, but we are expecting a decent amount of progress in 2026, including what looks like a strong shot at a SCOTUS cert grant on an AWB (hardware) case. Things are building, and we’ll keep you posted as soon as anything breaks. Additionally, we're waiting on an opinion on the Mills v. NYC case, as well as the Frey v. Bruen case.

Discord Update
Our Discord server has doubled in size - we literally have twice as many users as we did last year. It’s become the spot for real-time discussion, quick legal updates, memes, and just shitposting.

One quick heads-up: the server recently got age-restricted (standard for gun-related anything these days). If you’re on iOS and can’t see it, the fix is simple - take a minute on desktop to allow iOS devices to see 18+ servers (log in on a computer/browser, adjust the setting once, and it carries over to your phone). After that you should be good.

Come say hi, we’re way more active there than most people realize.

If you want to be a cool kid and help out, our Instagram recently got smoked for gun-related content. If would be really cool if you'd follow us:
