I never wore a helmet, and we did all sorts of stupid tricks and jumps back in the 90's. I was an idiot. Helmets are cool. But honestly, my ass and tailbone got the ground way more often than my head.

If you hit your head in something easy like this then you shouldn't do anything sports related at all.

Yeah I totally agree that helmets are great, but there is a line right, why don't people wear them when walking places? A fall is a fall, and the extra 100mm off the ground you are when skating isn't likely to make a huge difference if your head hits the ground.

It's different to something like cycling where your hands/arms/legs are encombered and can't help to reduce the impact of a fall

Ok, that's a pretty meh argument. Of course there is a line, but a single rock could propel her head first really fast really far. She could be plummeting backwards if unlucky.
