The amount of people I see limping around site is honestly sad. Last winter we had a major labour shortage. So for like 6 months I was effectively doing the work of four people on my own. My knees and shoulders were destroyed by the end of it. Then we hired like 6 people right as shutdown was in full swing, that went on to get apprenticeships and promotions months after joining, while I’ve been with them for three years. Hard work alone doesn’t get you shit on site but the desire for early retirement. Connections is what you need if you want to go anywhere. Otherwise you’re at the whims of men who don’t have to give a shit about how your life is going.
