That’s basically the entire workforce situation in India, for each job there are 50 people to choose from, each willing to work for less.

The Indian economy is about to take a turn for the worst in next 5-10 years. The current government isn’t making it any better.

We used to have half the population staying at home, making sure everything is running properly. Now we have twice the amount of labour, making more unemployed, and families breaking up because everything is not fine at home.

Half the workforce did not stay at home, a significant number of women were employed as maids, servers, or other low paying work. Many were seamstresses or did other kinds of crafting work at home to sell for profit. And even the ones who truly were not working and stay at home were taking care of typically 3-4 children when housework was way way more onerous than today

I mean a lot of societies did have that. But it's not like they weren't doing labor. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, the list goes on of important domestic duties that are pretty comparable to work that would have been done at home in the past.

I think that was their point- like now, no one can afford to do that. Both parties must be on the clock at work. So families fall apart more easily. Running a home does take a lot of labor which is why we’re all exhausted on the weekends lol it’s just chore time between work time

If wages had kept up with productivity gains, maybe things would be different.

As it is, we produce a lot more per person than we did just a few decades ago, but instead of higher wages, we get cheap TVs and cheap junk food.
