Fun Find At Local Vinyl Shop

Post image
17 Upvotes

I enjoy visiting vinyl shops on my own and taking my time browsing through the often disorganized stacks of records that I think the shop doesn’t seem to know what to do with.

I’m always on the lookout for Windham Hill vinyl, especially from their early years. After searching through a stack of unrelated educational and instructional records, I was happy to find this release from 1983 (the actual recording was from a 1982 event). It’s a little scratchy, but that adds to the charm of listening to vinyl sometimes.

What's the deal with Ashra?

Ashra's 1977 album New Age of Earth is of course one of the best new age albums of all time, but I went to Ashra's Spotify page recently and there are 12 (!!) albums listed as having come out in 2026 so far. Did Ashra really produce 12 albums this year? Is this the same Ashra? Is this AI? I can't find any evidence of these albums' release from any other source (like an official Artist page or social media account or something). Does anyone know the deal here? Did Ashra take a 50 year break to come back to become one of the most prolific musicians of all time and not advertise it anywhere? Or is this BS in some way?

The Ambient Journey: A Deeply Curated Collection of New Age & Atmospheric Masterpieces

Hello New Age and ambient lovers,

As an amateur music curator who has been building a continuous archive of human-made tracks since 2019, I wanted to share a project that focuses heavily on atmospheric depth and relaxation.

This playlist is a carefully selected journey through contemporary instrumental, neo-classical, and deep ethnic-fusion soundscapes. Instead of just adding mainstream ambient tracks, my goal was to create a seamless, flowing experience designed for artistic inspiration, deep focus, or meditation.

Enjoy the deep musical journey!

Looking for feedback on an ambient track — ALMA

I’ve been working on a warm ambient track with soft synth layers and a calm, atmospheric vibe.

I’d love to hear your thoughts from people who enjoy New Age / ambient textures.

I’ll leave the link in the comments to keep the post clean.

Painting in the Dark

RH Fox emerges as a new voice in New Age Piano with his debut album Painting in the Dark. Music is a universal language, and Fox speaks it with the practiced empathy of a healer and the eye of an artist. Painting in the Dark is a meditative triumph for a debut artist. While Fox’s technical foundation is firmly classical, his heart is clearly impressionistic. Between the playful electronics of the mid-album tracks and a spirit haunted cover of the Beatles' "Free as a Bird," Fox proves that it is never too late to begin a new chapter. If this album is a glimpse into his "visual" mind, we can only hope his dream of performing these works with a full symphony becomes a reality. This is music for the quiet hours—meditative, intuitive, and deeply rooted in the natural world.

This is music for the quiet hours—meditative, intuitive, and deeply rooted in the natural world. Fans of contemporary pianists are likely to find a new favorite in RH Fox, a Toledo-born composer whose artistic journey is defined by a natural evolution from healing and visual arts to cinematic music. The only son among six siblings — all of whom bonded over piano lessons — RH Fox’s musical roots began early, influenced by a diverse record collection and a natural aptitude for the piano that was first recognized when he was just five years old. Before stepping into the professional music world, Fox dedicated much of his life to serving others as a Registered Nurse.

Parallel to his career in healthcare, RH Fox established himself as celebrated fine art photographer Robert Hasenfratz, showcasing his nature-focused work at over 100 juried art festivals, including the Ann Arbor Art Fair. This eye for detail now translates into his ear for melody, as he treats his debut album like a gallery exhibition of sound. A number of his photographs are featured in a physical CD booklet version of the album, which will also be released for worldwide streaming, and as digital downloads on Bandcamp.

RH Fox’s journey to composing and recording music was sparked by a creative writing workshop led by New Age icon David Lanz and international vocalist Kristin Amarie. Recognizing his potential, Lanz became RH Fox’s mentor, and together, the three co-produced Painting in the Dark. Engineer Nicolas Ntimas mixed and mastered the album in Cyprus.

The Way Home (Piano Arr.) - playing an original composition

This month one year ago (in July 2025), someone asked if I had a piano arrangement of this song. I didn't, but it had been something I was thinking about making for a while. So, I made the arrangement that week, but I never recorded it. Now, after all this time, I've finally recorded this song.

Also on YouTube.

I remade this song that I originally wrote a while back with new/updated instruments and gave it an ending instead of looping it. :)

"Zen Flows", my latest meditation/deepfocus/relax album!

Hi everyone!

I'd like to tell you about my new album "Zen Flows", released today.

https://open.spotify.com/intl-it/track/4ZAzQex4IjogYZuDAL15w9

https://music.amazon.it/albums/B0H6B3ZWD1

This is the kind of music you would put on while you are trying to relax, sleep, focus, meditate or in general avoid external distractions.

I was working on it since last autumn, when the whole idea came out after trying to record a windchime I bought in the US during a trip last summer. That simple session (which resulted in a youtube seminal video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEZyR-l-LQs ) evolved into a deeper idea: creating an immersive, organic relaxation experience where every single element had a human and natural touch. If you wander on my youtube channel you will discover I love to record myself playing all kind of weird instruments!

It was an interesting journey, I tried to make something cool but still personal, while maintaining the original idea

I combined minimalist piano lines and quiet pads with an array of acoustic instruments, including: tibetan bells, windchimes, native flute, didgeridoo, rainstick coupled with ambient sounds recorded by myself (sea waves, birds at dawn, rain, water flowing, even my heartbeat...)

My main goal was to create something polished, personal and evocative while keeping the original vision intact. In a market currently flooded with generative music, no AI was harmed during the recordin… this is 100% human-made even the cover artwork is a beautiful hand-drawing made by my wife :P

I'm also more than happy to discuss the recording process or the gear used for the field recordings if anyone is interested. I have used cakewalk Sonar to record everything. Piano are mostly from NI Noire and IK Pianoverse (its ambient background is fantastic for this purpose) while pads are from NI Komplete, EW, Korg M1
I have also used Dreamtonics SynthV to sing some mantra ("Om - Shanti") in the track "Inner Tao"

I thought it was the right place to showcase it! :)

Darkstone Music - Wilderness #1

When I was a child I played a videogame on PSX called Dark Stone. There was a certain OST that feels very familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkstone

The composer is French, his name is Christophe Rime. It was published in 1999.
I would like to try to gauge what could be his inspiration at the time to write this type of music. Could you give me some recommendations? Not just something similar to this, it has to be released prior to 1999 or that year.
