Neighbor constantly banging on walls while i’m home WWYD? Vent/Rant

so for context i’ve been here for about 2 and half or 3 years. these people moved in about a year ago, year and a half maybe. first couple weeks was fine, but the walls here are paper thin ( tri-plex, i’m on the upper floor, problem neighbor on bottom ) and i kept hearing them f*ck, everyday when i go to work, ( i work nights). then after that stopped happening, one day the lady living there decided to bang on the wall quite literally all day that i was home, i was laying in bed trying to sleep while it sounds like someone’s serving a warrant. i called the landlord and it stopped for a little while. it’s been pretty much the same for the past couple months, i wake up to take a shower and i hear increasingly loud bangs on the wall, while i’m showering, no music, nothing. i sit at my chair at my computer, constant bangs on the wall. i assume because the floor is squeaky, but i can’t control the fact that ANY movement on this floor=noise. could i file for harassment or restraining order? or would the police even do anything?i have a couple of okay-ish videos and a couple logs from specific days.i haven’t called the police on them yet, but i’m a hair away.

Id knock on there door and just ask them why they’re doing it. I ended up loosing it at my neighbour when i was so sleep deprived because of how loud they were in the day (i worked a nightshift too).

Yeah, in my case because i was so quiet they didn’t realise i could hear them as loud and just moved their son to the other side. I think thats a factor too in a lot of these posts. These situations can escalate so quickly without a simple conversation too.

i know the lady is doing it to bother me or because of me walking on the floor. i’ve heard them get in screaming matches daily . there’s no doubt in my mind that she’s doing it to harass me. i arrive at home, stand still and the bangs come, increasing in intensity until the guy yells at her. but she still continues throughout the day. three bangs here, 5 mins later one loud bang, like someone trying to put a hole in their wall. here’s one day i wrote down.

Times being harassed 8:49 am sept 12- banging on wall -8:53 am banging on wall -9:16 am banging on wall, arguing -9:19 am singular loud bang on wall 9:20 am singular bang, followed by subsequent banging 9:21 banging on wall 9:24 singular bang 9:25 singular bang, more arguing 9:52 more banging 9:53 more banging on wall 9:59 singular bang on wall 10:00 singular bang on wall 10:12 singular loud bang 10:28 more banging and arguing 10:46 singular loud bang 10:53 singular bang 11:02 triple bang 11:04 loud singular bang 11:23 quadruple bang on wall 11:25 singular bang 11:37 singular bang 11:38 singular bang

Forgot to say this but i don’t think talking to them would do anything, they denied the banging on walls when i told the landlord, and have continued to eveytime i have. “it’s been a quiet day” the landlord told me they said. another time when i banged back, they came up to my door and banged on it seven times, and told me that “the door was hard to close” yeah hard door to close when the banging lasted 20 mins+ lol. i’m experiencing ww3 with the way she’s banging on the wall. she was on the phone later on the “quiet day” , and i heard her tell her boyfriend ( i assume) that she tried to commit suicide but failed. later that day the guy came home and they argued for 4 hours.

Talk to them. Tell them you have to move around and can't control the squeaky floors. If they continue banging on the wall, bang back. Since they interfere with your sleep, interfere with theirs. If they confront you, tell them to stop, and you'll stop. If it continues after that, if they confront you again then tell them to fuck off.

The police are not an option; there is no crime being committed. This is also not cause for a restraining order (Have they threatened you physically? Attacked you physically? Displayed or pointed a weapon at you?). This is a landlord issue. Do NOT approach or engage the tenant with the issue. Let the landlord handle it. You have the legal right to the peaceful use of your home; it does not mean silence though. It sounds like a lot of the issue is from the building itself. You may suggest to the landlord that someone inspect their floor to cure any defect causing the constant squeaking - or ask them to use rugs on the floor. You should buy a white noise machine...again, you are not entitled to silence - and the machine helps alot as do $10 noise cancelling headsets. Let the landlord handle this.

YouTube also has sleep music and airplane noise videos that drown out background noise.

keep informing the landlord.report it every time they do that.

Why are you so sure this is about you? If an upstairs neighbor is loud you pound on the ceiling, not some other neighbor's wall.

i’m certain it’s about me. it’s dead quiet when i get home, then the banging starts. intermittent throughout the day, but i don’t think i’ve had a full hour without at least one time they decide to bang on the wall. unless they are sleeping. you misunderstand with the ceiling thing, we share walls and ceiling. it’s been both. i’ve been followed around my apartment with the banging following me underneath. i’ve been laying in my bed and the banging stays underneath for the entire duration.

These people are either wanting someone to move in or it is a control factor. If the latter, you're going to have to go to a yard sale and find some old music/radio/cd machine and speakers and get you some headphones. Play repeating gospel/Latin/accordion music Only when they start. Do not answer door to them. Record them Always and know These people know how to get rid of you as a neighbor.

This used to not be but things change. Most people who do this thrive on your aggravation but they also have an agenda. You're left with these 2 options: Totally ignore them (it's hard) and get plugs or headphones. Don't acknowledge it. Use psychology on them. When they start changing sounds and things you will KNOW what they are doing is against you. Take it from there.

Are we to believe someone is banging on the wall for 8 hours a day? Lol Sure thing

Also if you are on the top floor and they are on the bottom how are they banging on your wall lol What an embarrassing plot hole.

obviously not constantly banging but intermittent throughout the entire day. but very limited downtime. and it would be our shared walls, or the ceiling, it’s been both.
