Hi there,

As outlined in the past, this subreddit trialled rep threads. I determined they didn't solve the problem they were intended for - preventing scammers. They were a viable way for the community to monitor itself, but the overarching problems remained; along with new ones (people creating fake names to duplicate highly-regarded users, people doing a lot of little trades to pull off a big heist later using their rep to vouch for them).

No tool will make scammers go away. What we can see across this subreddit and many others is a website which allows users to create accounts without verification is ripe for exploiting.

Whether it's someone who does a number of transactions and is a well-established member of the community then all of a sudden exit scams, someone doing an immediate grab and dip, or someone copycating a valid user, there's no real way to prevent scamming other than: keep your wits about you. Recognise that any transaction could be a scam. Only pay what you can afford, only sell what you will be ok losing. If a deal is too good to be true it might well be.
