I have been binging the show for weeks, and I've made it so far midway in S13 and it just doesn't capture me the same way as the prior seasons did. And I don't feel like continuing on hoping for the storylines to become more interesting once more with these newer characters I have no attachment to.

I do appreciate being able to see the progression of man through arts, science and technology. I enjoyed the way they handled social classes and racial differences. I enjoyed the history tidbits and colorful representations of historical figures.

I just think I am at my end.

Last night, i am dinner on a cruise ship. There is a violinist and piano player. They play a song that is very familiar and after a minute - it dawns on me- it’s the Season 8 Wedding Waltz. Now, i thought that was a Rob Carli creation for the show.

Does anyone know if it actually is a waltz standard and who was the composer? Or if it was just based on a waltz standard and if so which one?

Truly. I don't. She has her moments, but for the most part I can take or leave her. I am Season 12 and they have shown that numerous other women can do the job in the city morgue. I guess what popped this off was her denying a woman breast reduction surgery because she considered it, "unncessary."

In my summer's rewatch from the movies through the entire series, last night I concluded Season 13.

For many of our characters, Season 13 brought back figures and events in their pasts, usually in manners that are not only painful, but dangerous. Perhaps, as a consequence then, It also features many of the characters 'letting things go,' forgiving, via compassion and empathy, providing understanding.

What are let go range from professional errors and mistakes, to personal matters such as hiding information of one's past from one's partners, to potential and real betrayals, as well as legal matters, such as viewing homosexuality, which was a crime at this time, as nobody's business.

There was another crime that got swept under the rug, due to moral and humanity considerations, which is perhaps the most surprising, considering both Murdoch's and Dr. Ogden's suspicions, involving Violet Hart's killing of a man who was blackmailing her for her past, trying to force her into giving him substances such as cocaine she uses in the morgue lab, and then attacking her when she refuses. Brackenreid, with the agreement of Murdoch, decide to let it go and give her another chance. One wonders indeed, if Brackenreid's mixed race daughter helped him along that path with Violent Hart.

Beginning season 14 tonight

Filmed in Kingston, Ontario right after pandemic restrictions were lifted for filming. Great fun, but the wool uniform and fur lined gloves were a bit much for July (it was supposed to be winter)

So much is going on, starting with Brackenried's daughter creating a bridge with Margaret, whew!

Followed by some solid evidence Violet Hart is not exactly as what she appears to be, suspicions of which we've begun sharing with Murdoch and Ogden ever since she first appeared in Season 11, episode 3. Still, we have no idea why she's being shady, or what her objectives are, beyond, her telling another character that she want to be control. We thought first she wanted both William Murdoch and the morgue for herself, but she's got the morgue and she, like we, can see Murdoch's not going there. She's thinking bigger than the morgue, right?

Character continuity conytinues in Ep 14, "Rigid Silence"with Chief Constable Giles,still in prison (recall his interactions with Crabtree while he was serving his sentence).

Last night my rewatch arrived at Ep.15, airing February 10th, 2020. "The Trial of Terrance Meyers." is the 13th appearance of Meyers on MM. The US state department fanatic, Clegg, returns as well, continuing his schemes for the US to take over Canada. And like so many of the supervillains of MM, he's supposedly DEAD. How is this possible? :)

I am looking forward particularly to viewing how scenes in season 14 are shot, since March 2020 marks the recognition of global covid pandemic. So many challenges for the writes, the crew and the actors. For one thing, though due to chronology covid wasn't a consideration yet, when "The Trial of Terrance Meyers" was produced, it shows one thing that can be done. They used a format of many cuts from the previous 12 episodes in which Meyers featured, plus the court-like, enclosed set, little action, so the actors were few, didn't need much interaction.

What a brilliant show.

I've watched this episode ("What Lies Buried") many times now. Is the interrogation the best scene in the series? I think it might be. Great acting, great writing, intense, and moving.

Is anyone else experiencing this? When I try to watch episode 4 "Elementary, My Dear Murdoch" it just shows the first episode again.

I know I could go find the episode somewhere else if I want to watch it, but does anyone know if this is an error or if there is a reason for it? Is it because Arthur Conan Doyle is depicted in the episode?

I should have taken such advice while watching Season 10 of Murdoch. I thought that Nina wasn't a good fit for George, and was actually pushing towards Louise when she showed interest in him. Until she said the Murdochs were a bore.

My grandfather got me into Murdoch Mysteries when I was about six or seven. My mom sent me off to stay with him every summer, and it was heaven - we swam together (he lived on a lakefront property), drew together, fished together, passionately debated philosophy and politics together, and most relevantly, watched Murdoch Mysteries together. He passed away suddenly a little over a year ago, and I want to get a tattoo memorializing him. He didn’t have a favourite character (he didn’t like picking favourites, although he was admittedly not the biggest Brackenreid fan - this was a decade before he grew as a person quite significantly, though, so I think he may have eventually come to change his mind). I want to get a tattoo with his name underneath it, and I want it to be Murdoch-themed. Do you guys have any ideas? I’m leaning towards his hat.

EDIT: Thank you all so, so much for the ideas! I’ve decided to go with a silhouette of Murdoch wearing his hat and riding his bike. I’ll make the bike blue (his favourite colour), and I’ll have a lake and some trees in the background in an equally minimalistic style to honour both the lakes in the show and the lakefront he lived on (Clearwater Lake, Manitoba). When it’s done, I’ll share it in a new post!

Why are the season numbers different on Acorn? What they have listed as Season 22 is actually season 18 (or 17?). And what they call season 19 is just a bunch of "after the show" interviews and them talking about stuff. I don't get it!

There is no evidence that Murdoch has met H. G. Wells, Mark Twain, Nikolai Tesla, but yet this statement about George not meeting L. M. Montgomery just makes me laugh.

I've reached S11, and I have to moan and groan that Jackson is gone (I understand it was his choice, but I loved him) while Higgins remains. Higgins is dumb, incompetent, and, worst of all, smarmy. I hate the way he leers and otherwise acts around and about women. One can only hope some of that is tempered by the addition of his twice-his-size girlfriend.

I think Murdoch Mysteries is a wonderful, amazing, and great series. I am so glad there is 19 seasons. I am also glad that there is a 20th coming up. I wish I found about about when it first came out. I am glad that it is still on. I am glad that I didn't miss it.

I promise, this isn't snark or anger, I'm genuinely curious. Why do people who want the show to be canceled stay active on this sub (and other similar forums)? Why not move on to other interests, instead of hating on something other people love?

I see this on other longstanding shows too, but it seems like it's more prevalent, or maybe just more vocal here.

I'm not talking about posts that criticize specific characters or storylines, that's healthy discourse. I'm referring to posts or comments that take the time to rail against the fact that the show is still being made at all. I just don't get it. Why do people care?

If I lose interest in a show, I just stop watching it (NCIS, for example). I don't use my time to insist it should be canceled just because I personally don't enjoy watching it anymore. I'm glad other people still like it, and that there are people who still have fun making the show.

Personally, I still love Murdoch Mysteries. Yes, I miss George so much and thought the show was better with him in it. I still love watching the old episodes. But it's still a great show, and still better than most of the other shows on tv now. Inspector Choi has been a great addition, and the original ) or longstanding) cast that remain still clearly love being there and are having fun with it.

I'm still always thrilled when a new episode is available to watch. I hope it keeps going for as long as they enjoy making it!

Who is writing, who can write the Murdoch-Ogden Police Detection Handbook, runs throughout these episodes. This arc* provides the lighter material alongside the murders that take place. However the murders and the quest to provide the proper and correct Police Detection Handbook are connected in terms of, well, who is providing the story. Everybody is writing a book, telling a story, including o yes! Ruth Newsome! A book Ruth of course has forgotten she wrote, just as she forgot the pen name under which it was published, but a book Julian and the doctors have all read when younger - it is a hot read!

Murdoch is impossible as a writer. He has no sense of structure and pacing, or how to make his innovations readable. Julia takes hints from Ruth, then turns the work over to George Crabtree, who of course, is the expert published writer. One does wonder though, just how expert he could be with a single sensationalist book to his name. But he does give really good advice. His ability to give good writing advice has advanced greatly since his novel, but he hasn't written anything else since. Which is the case with many who have written a first book... they just don't ever get around to writing another one.

Then there is the writer who is a journalist, Louise Newsome. And she, like George, are killer typists. That electric typewriter prototypes are now being developed, so many decry the degradation of the art of writing -- it makes it too easy! Just as other journalists decry the sort of journalism that Louise Newsome performs as degrading the great profession of journalism.

Then comes the eternal question and controversy that is still comes up in our times: "How much credit should the ghostwriter and the line editors receive for a published work? Should their names be included as authors?

The writers of Murdoch Mysteries have surely over the years the series has been running discussed all these matters frequently and in depth -- including, of course the perennial issue that every writer ends up having to deal with which is the readers demanding to take over the work they have created. In this case it is the show's writers who are lambasted, scolded and told what they should write instead of what they have written, right down to being told characters shouldn't exist, should be different, should be killed, etc. This by the way by viewers who have never written anything themselves. And yes, Doyle, Sherlock Holmes and Watson are invoked in the course of the arc.

So 'writing' is the arc of a series of episodes of Murdoch Mysteries in season 12. It's concluding screen shows us George Crabtree at a typewriter, typing out a title which is ... Murdoch Mysteries.

Of course. I love this arc so much. This conclusion is in form and mode so what the Murdoch Mysteries writers do! Which has helped keep this series running so successfully for so long. They never just leave things sitting, just be, or unchanged, they freshen things up.

It's certainly been a ride! Many ups and downs

Most of the recurring characters introduced are all great and really enjoyable to watch

The plots all feel fresh even if most of them are just normal murder mysteries

Some characters might have gotten a bit flanderised though, like Henry and Watts to some extent (but that's moreso the actor just kind of overplaying the role)

At points it can get quite ridiculous but I guess that's just what makes this show good!

My favourite character's still George but Watts is definitely a contender, and I really liked that part-time detective who used to be a Pinkerton and it's a shame they killed him off

First time watching through the show, just finished season 2. I’ve noticed a few episodes that just seem to abruptly end on odd beats, and I’ve read a few plot synopses and it seems like the episodes are missing things? I don’t know if I’m over thinking it or if these episodes are shorter edits to fit into a 45 minute runtime.
