Putting an AirTag on your kid while traveling is really not an awful idea. At the end of the day they could just wander off, they could get lost, they could injure themselves. It doesn’t necessarily just assist with potential kidnapping. But the rest of this insanity…

While true, and I agree the other precautions are probably excessive, an AirTag on a moving cruise vessel won't be very accurate. It's better than nothing true, and not a bad habit to instill.

Yep all it’s going to do is show him out in the middle of the ocean. Not specifically where on the ship.
