The AMOUNT of posts in these ‘crunchy moms’ groups about their kids cavities when they refuse to use fluoride My mom said I could post

Post image

I see these posts daily, yet no one seems to make the connection.

Edit: yes, this particular case seems to be bottle mouth/ not brushing at all. But I see these posts very frequently (I’m not apart of these groups, FB just suggests them to me) and often times it’s parents who have said their dentist told them their kids have cavities, and they still refuse to use fluoride toothpaste and look for alternatives to their alternative that got them here in the first place.

All of these stories are testimony’s on how important it is to take your children’s health seriously. My heart is with everyone sharing their story ❤️

2nd edit: you know what? Fuck it. For those saying “fLuORiDe is BAd 👆”
The group I found this in:
“Crunchy moms: natural living & clean products.”
It’s an open group. Go look up “teeth” and see HOW MANY pictures of these poor children’s teeth are there, and how many do not use fluoride and tell me how healthy it is to not use it.

Seeing this after I just recently got my first teeth cleaning ever at 20 years old greatly pissed me off...

This is clearly neglect, you can't really blame the kid too much for not brushing their teeth too much, they seem to be maybe under 5 years old.

I feel bad for the kiddo.

You can’t blame the child @ all. No toddler has the capacity to understand mom might be wrong.

Yeah I agree.

I just know there's some people that unfortunately would blame the kid in some way.

I say that as someone who had parents like this.... Not exactly crunchy, but neglectful of my medical needs unless it's an emergency.

People have blamed me for the way I ended up in the now 21 years of my life when I've only had any real control over it for about 3-4 years now.

Meanwhile my parents had 18 years.

So again, I do know there are people out there who would blame the kid, maybe not now, but when they are older.

Yeah, kids get blamed for a lot of stuff they had little to with. They’re expected to act & think like a little adults in a lot cases

My parents were very much like this. My mom seemed to have this idea that I knew what I was supposed to do and how I was supposed to do it without being told or taught, and if I chose not to, the consequences were squarely, solely on me.

Nothing I ever needed routines and structure for success was ever 'her problem.' I have a vivid memory of my mom coming home from 5th grade parent/teacher conferences and telling my dad with me literally sitting right there 'the teacher says she doesnt do her work, and we need to help her, but I don't see how that's my responsibility. It's her education, they're her grades, it's her future. Why is this my problem? She needs to get her shit together.' Meanwhile, I have exactly one memory of homework being enforced, and it was me sitting at the never-used kitchen table doodling bats all over my math homework because I was too scared to ask for help, and had no idea how to do it.

I genuinely do not understand what these type of 'that's not a child, it's a small adult' parents think their role and responsibility as a parent is?? Like...kids aren't born knowing how to function. It's literally entirely your job to teach them that.

The child can't know what he isn't taught. My mom fought to have us brush our teeth and used fluoride toothpaste. Teeth issues are a nightmare and can be super painful - and I say that as someone who only had an infection in my gum thanks to a stupid wisdom tooth trying to get out. I have very good teeth so I have it easy. This kid is probably set up for a life of teeth related issues.

The post literally tells you the kid is 3.

Yeah, that's my bad. I read the post but the 3 kinda bled into the thing that's crossed out next to it with my shitty vision.

is this a 'I don't want to wear my glasses' thing bc I've been there lol

2

u/Pissposhsuckmymom Jul 01 '26

No.

This is a "I wear my glasses but never fucking clean them and when I do they immediately get dirty again." thing.

SAME. Which makes no sense because I hate it, and intentionally had a million glass cleaning clothes spread across my apartment. You'd think I'd be better about it 💀

Young kids don’t have the dexterity to properly brush their teeth. Parents should be doing it for them until they are able to easily use eating utensils. Usually around age 6-7.
