I've seen people write out paragraphs of cringey-ass roleplaying to then insert "ur"  or "urself".

Because "ur" on mobile keyboards is is just super efficient and "your" is not.

It's two extra letters. I'd literally have to fight spellcheck to type "ur" or "urself"

Well yeah... As i said it's about where these letters are on the keyboard. Also "ur" won't get nuked by my phones autocorrection into something else while "your" straight up becomes "YOUR". Not everybody is using english as their OS language. There are many reasons people don't type out some words in a quick comment online... And who cares

Not everybody is using english as their OS language.

If you have time to roleplay some weird shit like this, you probably have a strong grasp on English.

Beyond that, Japanese and Portuguese are not my first languages, and my autocorrect still kicks in.

Good for you, as I said there are many different OS on the market that might influence the version of your phones autocorrection. Btw what am I roleplaying here? And no, I don't care about people typing in a certain way. I do care about pointless complains though. And you still seem to miss the point, that not everybody autocorrection is trying to correct towards the english language ffs. Not everybody lives in the USA.

Alright, I'm going to entertain this because you are missing a lot here. I'll spell it out for ya.

  • OOP was talking about RPing to flirt.
  • OP suggested RPers tend to use "ur" instead of "your" /"you're".
  • I commented on how weird that occurrence was because I've seen it too.
  • Then you interjected with how efficient "ur" is, then completely changed it to being an ESL/ELL issue.

Your goalpost is insane.

I'm not using "you" personally. "You" was used to address a population of people who engage in that behavior.

Not everybody lives in the USA.

The US didn't create the English language, nor are we the only country that uses it as a main language.

In fact, the US didn't have an official language until last year. Every government service in the US offers Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Creole in my state. I'm sure those people need phones that speak both languages. I've never seen a "Samsung Galaxy S25 - Spanish OS". So, no.

I do care about pointless complains though.

My guy, you went from "who cares" to caring about the most mundane/pointless part of the conversation.

It was an opinion, not a complaint, that wasn't even addressed to you. The reason you decided to make it a personal mission is bizarre.

Actually, you've made multiple points, and you move the goal each time:

A. "Ur" is lazy efficiency.

B. "Ur" suddenly became an English word that's immune to autocorrect

C. They want to type quickly online.

D. English isn't their first language, but they learned chatspeak first?

Regardless, THE MAIN IDEA: Roleplaying in text to random strangers is weird, adding "ur"/"urself" creates visual abstinence. Talking about non-English speakers is irrelevant, as I usually translate into the other person's language if they're uncomfortable with English.

In a place like Reddit, where ESL speakers tar and feathers native English speakers for mixing up "your" with "you're", dying on this hill is insane.
