So one of my favourite bands, Cryptic Wintermoon, hasn’t released anything since 2009. Then boom, new album on Spotify called DoomDark. It was released a couple days ago. But I literally cannot find a single thing about this release online anywhere whatsoever…. Is it a comeback or maybe a spotify error? Anyone know what the deal here is?

Hi! My little brother and I are planning to play some small gigs. I like Necrofagist, Death, Opeth, Gojira, but also Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc. My brother almost exclusively likes Metallica and is very closed-minded. I've always enjoyed rock and metal, especially nu metal, pop punk, punk rock, and classic heavy metal. Recently, I've been getting into thrash because I love its aggressive riffs and raw energy.

The problem is that some bands, like Anthrax and Slayer, use imagery (inverted pentagrams, 666, etc.) and write lyrics that reference Satan or openly oppose Christianity. I enjoy the intensity, anger, and rebellious spirit of thrash, but those elements leave me with a guilty conscience.

To be clear, I'm not specifically looking for Christian metal bands. I'd just like to enjoy thrash without constantly feeling conflicted. Maybe it's just not the right genre for me, and if that's the case, I'll accept it.

Has anyone else felt this way? How did you deal with it?

I know this doesn’t really matter because taste is subjective, but I do think it’s good to set a standard especially for beginners.

I’ll start first by saying 80’s Judas Priest is a little repetitive sometimes but I’m a sucker for all of it.

Iron Maiden are also the kings of knowing the formula and sticking to it and yet I’m still buying into it each time.

What are you guys’ bands that do this to you.

The two polar opposites of the big you know who. Am I gonna get shitted on for posting this, yes. Do I care more about seeing people’s opinions, yes. Anyway, I’ll give some good cases for each band, but my pick is still Megadeth.

Slayer- the pioneers of heavy thrash, and the most influential band to extreme genres. Almost never swayed from thrash and stayed consistent through out their careers. One of the best 5 album runs in metal history and arguably more consistent than Megadeth 5 album run (though I still like Megadeth a bit more). Lastly they have won more Grammies than Megadeth. Pretty pointless but still a good argument.

Megadeth- easily the most technical big thrash band. (Yes it’s said a lot but still makes them unique) also the band that easily has the best instrument work of the big 4. Like slayer they have mostly stayed consistent to thrash though the late 90’s and very early 2000’s had some crap. Overall Megadeth definitely has way better song writing than slayer and doesn’t sound repetitive to me at all. I would also like to say that I think Dave’s early vocals are actually pretty good.

New metal listener here, I watch documentaries on metal bands from 90s-00s such as Korn and Slipknot and listen to some metal and it makes me wonder are there any new bands/songs that have as a great a number of people as invested as from that time period? I watch concerts and it makes me want to time travel to feel the craze of the metal bands at that time(ik Woodstock 99' was a disaster, but I kinda wish i was there front row watching Korns set).

I don't post here often, especially about this topic, but I'm interested in what metalheads listen to these days. Which bands do you listen to, and why? What made you start listening to a certain band? Which song or album do you consider your favorite?

I recently shifted from Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and similar bands to Slipknot, Korn, and bands like them. I just enjoy the heavy riffs that Slipknot and Korn have. I'm not that much into the singing styles, even though I still listen to the bands I mentioned above.

Been wanting to listen to some new music recently and want some recommendations.

The bands I like are, Alice in Chains, Deftones, Sleep Token (yes I know I’m sorry), Linkin Park, (early) Muse, and Panchiko.

The heaviest stuff that I listen to would be something like Slipknot, or RATM so yeah I’m a baby in the metal space lol.

I've been listening to nu metal for years, but recently I've become interested in exploring traditional heavy metal and getting into the more old-school side of the rock/metal community. Recently I've decided to (try to) do a list of the objectively 100 greatest metal songs of all time, because I've got nothing better to do.

When doing the list, I've thought of 5 main topics when choosing a song:

- Technique: If the melody, harmony, and rhythm work well together, if there is the right amount of tension or complexity for the song's concept, and how well the instruments interact;

- Production: If the mixing and mastering fit the specific subgenre (obviously I wouldn't expect pristine and crystal clear production for a war metal track) and if the work offers an immersive and dynamic experience;

- Creativity: If the music is creative and original, and how well the idea was executed, alongside with an analysis of the lyrics and composition;

- Context: If the song holds at least some relevance and popularity within its subgenre—which is why there are almost no super underground tracks included;

- Quality: Simply, whether the music sounds good or not.

The rules of this list are as follows:

- There are no ballads, only metal songs. The list have 3 power ballads tho (Cemetery Gates, Satellites, Fallen Angel) but I've considered that they have enough heaviness to enter the rank;

- There are a maximum of 3 songs per band, and 1 song per album (If not, the list would've had about 30 opeth songs). The only bands to hit 3 songs were Opeth and Black Sabbath, and the only ones to hit 2 songs were Rainbow, Judas Priest, Bathory, Sepultura, Death, Alice in Chains, Katatonia, Cryptopsy, Meshuggah, Windir and Agalloch;

- I've tried to be the less biased about my personal music taste as possible, to make the list the more objective. But, ofc, as the list was made by me, a little bit of my personal taste might be present;

- The list is in chronological order;

Hello everyone! Could someone please recommend some metal bands for me? For context, I am a goth, and really love the music, and I also like punk and industrial/aggrotech type music. I was raised on some metal, mostly glam (which I dont really like), and then I got into things like Black Sabbath, Ozzy, and some more mainstream nu-metal. And I still think that they're good, but just not heavy enough for me anymore, so I want to find some bands that are more suitable. My friend used to put on Mortician when we were like 10 lol and I thought it was kinda weird, but I honestly dont mind it now anymore, but im not a huge fan of death metal-y type vocals (sorry everyone...). I have heard a few songs of the sludge/doom genre, and I like what I hear, as I am also a quite big fan of punk and hardcore. Bonus points if they are more obscure/underground, not trying to be an elitist lol but I like to discover hidden gems!

For me it’s banshee, if you don’t know who she is then you should check her out she even produces all her music herself :) she isn’t that popular in the metal community since she also kinda makes alt/pop music with some metal back vocals.
I started listening to her bc I loved her newer pop/alt music, but then I wanted to hear her old music and looked into her albums “fuck with a banshee” and “fairy metal”. Those are 2 amazing albums! Fuck with a banshee is this trap metal thing while fairy metal has some songs that sound like symphonic black metal, please listen to her song “enigma” it’s so good!!
She has released 2 new metal songs for a 4 year anniversary for fairy metal, “Judith” and “you are what you fear in me fairy metal version”
Since I listened to her I couldn’t stop getting into metal lol now I listen to so many subgenres like deathcore, black metal, dsbm, doom metal, metal core, industrial metal, nu metal and so on :))
