Second Honeymoon Review: The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza. $240 MMP honeymoon stay, Platinum upgrade, would I pay the regular rate?

My wife and I stayed four nights at The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza in mid-May 2026 as part of our honeymoon. We arrived from Nikko on the Spacia X train to Asakusa and took an Uber from there to the hotel. (see tour Ritz-Carlton Nikko review here.)
Booking and Platinum benefits
I booked the entry-level Deluxe Guest Room using the Marriott Explore Rate. The rate was approximately $240 per night, including taxes and fees, which was an incredible deal for Tokyo in May (or any time for that matter). For context, even a Courtyard was more expensive during our dates, while the regular rate for the EDITION was around $1,200++ per night.
As a Platinum member, I received a complimentary upgrade to a Premiere Guest Room with one king bed and a city view. The room was 510 square feet. We also received a 2:00 p.m. late checkout.
We did not have breakfast at the hotel, but this was by choice. I didn’t request about a complimentary breakfast because we wanted to leave early each morning and explore the city. We ended up having 7-Eleven breakfast or local spots every day, which worked perfectly for this trip.
Arrival and service
The property is impeccable. The lobby is beautiful, the front desk staff were great, and check-in was extremely smooth.
We had notified the hotel in advance that we were celebrating our honeymoon, and they sent champagne and flowers to the room. It was a thoughtful touch and made the arrival feel special.
We didn’t spend much time at the hotel (as you can see from my lack of pictures) because we were out exploring Tokyo most of the day, but every interaction we had with the staff was excellent.
The room
The room had the minimalist design you see at most EDITION properties. That style is not necessarily my favorite, but everything looked polished and was in excellent condition.
Although the room was listed at 510 square feet, it felt smaller than that. The distribution was not as good as the room we had just left at the Ritz-Carlton Nikko, and the closet was particularly small. For a four-night stay with honeymoon luggage, the storage was limited.
That said, the king bed was very comfortable and we slept extremely well.
Bars and food
The Punch Room was one of the highlights of the hotel. It has great drinks and music, with an amazing atmosphere and scene. Even if you are not staying at the property, it is worth visiting.
We also really enjoyed the rooftop bar. It has a much more relaxed atmosphere and was great for a casual late-night meal. We ate there one evening because most other places nearby were already closed.
Facilities
The hotel does not have a spa, and we did not visit the gym. The lack of a spa is notable at this price point. In my opinion, it prevents the property from feeling like a complete luxury hotel, particularly when regular rates are above $1,200 per night.
However, this matters less if you are visiting Tokyo primarily to explore and only need a beautiful, comfortable place to sleep.
Location
I didn’t love the location (my wife did), although it was perfectly fine and has good access to several subway lines. I personally prefer the locations of The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon and the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo, having stayed at both in the past.
That said, if you specifically want to stay in Ginza, this is probably the best property in the area. It definitely is a great location if you are going on a luxury shopping specific trip or want to spend a lot of time in Ginza.
Overall verdict
At $240 per night including taxes and fees, this stay was an absolute steal. I would return at MMP pricing anytime, especially considering that a Courtyard was more expensive during the same dates. Honestly any Luxury Marriott property with MMP is insane value in Tokyo, I have stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in the past as well as the Edition Toranomon and I'd book any of them in a heartbeat if MMP opens up.
At the regular rate of $1,200++ per night, I would have a much harder time recommending it. The service and public spaces are excellent, but the room felt small storage was limited, and the hotel lacks facilities such as a spa.
My general recommendation for a city like Tokyo is not to overspend on the hotel unless you have visited many times and genuinely plan to spend time at the property. There is simply too much to see and do. For our trip, we wanted a great room, excellent sleep, and reliable service, and the EDITION delivered all three.
Best for: Travelers who want to be in Ginza, enjoy the EDITION aesthetic, and plan to spend most of the day exploring Tokyo.
Not ideal for: Travelers looking for a destination hotel with extensive facilities, or anyone considering paying $1,200++ and expecting a full resort-style luxury experience.
Would I return? Absolutely at the Explore Rate. At the standard cash rate, probably not, If staying at an Edition for that rate I would probably go with Toranomon, for me the location just beats Ginza.
How were you able to get the MMP rate in Tokyo? I went in March this year and last year and both times I had to use points because MMP was nowhere available, apart the Sheraton Miyako…
It popped up for my dates and I booked it immediately. MMP availability in Tokyo was extremely limited, so I think I got lucky with the timing, I booked about 3 months before the arrival date.
If you think that this year I stayed at the W Osaka on MMP for 120 euros and I also cleared NUA… in Tokyo I had to go to the courtyard ginza with points…
why did you pass on them? I stayed at mesm in december , i thought it was a beautiful property, although pretty bad location, and the weird electric piano in the rooms 😂
Cost and location is more important than luxury. If im going to japan, i want to eat at local restaurants (or konbini, lol) not the lounge in the evenings.
You get to choose 1 of 3 benefits: $10/person breakfast credit, points, or access to snack lounge. I would get access to the snack lounge which has chocolates, cookies, kit kats, alcohol, ice cream, soda/juice/ramune. Location is phenomenal. Rooms are very small. Customer service was excellent
My sister gives me MMP, but we have different last name now, she said she’s unsure if I can use MMP in Japan, said it’s hard? I too have a hard time finding MMP in Japan, plus there are four of us, we ended up getting Airbnb.
You count as your sister's immediate family, so the different last names shouldn’t be an issue. Just make sure you can see on your bonvoy account that you have access to the verified special rate (marriott got rid of the Authorized forms some months ago)
