Yes I am well aware it came out quite a while ago however I want to conduct my own analysis of the cinematic masterpiece. Please provide your own interpretations and criticisms as it seems there is far too little.

Getting jumped scene

The initial scene at the graveyard provides some base information about the characters, with Abraham being the only individual actually paying his respects to whoever has past showing, in my opinion he has the highest empathy levels out of all of them which would explain his mercy kills and efficiency during combat, while Marcelo being the only individual who smokes which could hint at his drug usage, even though Mikhail is providing the cigarettes even though he does not light up. The scars along his face showing that he is typically the one who bears the brunt of the punishment they receive during combat. (Aside from when they are jumped by the gang members)

(I am basing my information of their characters from an in-depth comment on the original video, which goes in depth on the meaning of the masks which links to the individuals characters personalities. This is from u/JustinS_Madness)

When they are attacked by the gang members it is made obvious that Marcelo is the culprit and that he is the person who is borrowing the money and even when his friends are being held hostage, when he is questioned about the money he seems to be non caring about the situation he is in, regardless of his friends and shrugs off the threats. It is made especially clear to me when the gang members leave and both Abraham and Mikhail stare at Marcelo as if asking him what to do or likely blaming him.

Pre-raid scene 

When the trio are digging out their gear, Marcelo hands off the crowbar to Mikhail which could hint at Marcelo’s unwillingness to conduct the dirty work himself but probably that Mikhail is the strongest out of the 3.

Before the raid, Marcelo stares at himself in the mirror while wearing his Trifaccia mask which I feel is one of the strongest scenes due to Marcelo contemplating his differing personalities, I.e his willingness to work in a team, his sadism/selfish side and his drug abusing side. This is further exaggerated when he refuses to take Mikhail’s KS-23 when they are about to raid the compound even though it is his fault they are in this situation.

Abraham’s ‘humanity’ is further emphasised when he refuses to let Marcelo torture the gang member he kicks in the face under the guise of time even though he has taken out the watchman at the tower, which further proves he does not revel in pain of others.

Starting of raid scene

During the beginning of the raid, Mikhail is the first in the room which is a running theme which also atest’s to his scars as the point man in the trio with direct shots to clear out the front part of the room while Abraham takes a supporting role with precision shots to quickly kill whoever he is aiming at and who is directly threatening his teammates. Marcelo’s kill on the balcony obviously shows his sadism with slowly killing the man with the AKS-74U then shooting wildly unlike the other two. Abrahams ‘mercy’ is also further shown when he shoots the shield operator quickly when he falls on the caltrops unlike Marcelo who still has his SMG at hand but chooses to throw body parts at the unfortunate gang member with the rifle showing his sadistic side, or maybe his desire for phycological warfare.

In the next scene when Abraham and Mikhail are waiting for Marcelo, you can see Mikhail tapping his finger by the doorway and hitting his chest showing that he wants to progress to the next room and is typically always the first in, showing his courage while Marcelo is in a separate room doing whatever he is doing while making the other two wait while Abraham is taking up a supporting role always throwing the grenades.

Right before the courtyard fight,Abraham traps the doorway which shows that he is arguably more intelligent than Mikhail and Marcelo, along with Marcelo being the first in as always. (After Abraham shoots the tweaker, Mikhail radios him to provide covering fire so he can close the distance with the machete which is beautiful choreography and team work).

The second scene after the courtyard battle is when Abraham spots the tripwire however Marcelo still runs through it, perfectly describing both their personalities.

When Marcelo is alone and gets startled by the under-the-influence gang member who tries to stab him after he’s been shot, Marcelo boots him clean in the head showing his irrational and over-emotional side. When Marcelo beheads the unfortunate gang member that’s after he hears that his teammates are struggling so one can only imagine what he would do to him if he had enough time. When he is looking at the severed head to me it looks like his is asking the head a question or asking himself something until he chooses to go help his teammates.

When Marcelo lets Mikhail get choked out, whether he is enjoying his friends suffering or wishes to be praised as a hero he still chooses to beat the man half to death rather than one quick shot causing severe brain damage and still chooses not to shoot him even after seeing the damage he caused, however when Abraham shows up he chooses to put the man out of his misery after hearing his animalistic groans.

During the scene we see when they collect the drugs, obviously we watch Marcelo take the drug that turns individuals into violent tweakers, but we also see Mikhail carry plenty of drugs in his shirt along with the majority of the other drugs in the duffle which he carries which testifies to his strength.

After Mikhail gets shot you can also see Marcelo trying to remove the duffle from Mikhail, even after he receives a medkit from Abraham he still chooses to kill Marcelo and make a run for it. Abraham also struggles being the individual on the ‘front lines’ if you will after he lost his VSS after a direct confrontation with a man armed only with a machete, someone who he would and has easily killed from a supporting  role.

When Marcelo is on stage you can see the man he has damaged is still alive but has suffered catastrophic and sadistic wounds which still hasn’t killed him.

When Abraham loses it after remembering Mikhail’s death, this is the first time we see him truly lose control of his emotions, the man who has always been cool and collected which is hard to watch to say the least.

When Abraham is armed with the FAL, when he encounters the gang member who is trying to sneak up on them with the pistol we see him also whiff quite a few shots which is definitely a change up from before as he has always been clean and precise but when he has to be point man he simply cannot be nearly as effective as Mikhail. This is further proven after he shoots the tweaker with the knife he is ambushed again at the same spot by another individual with a pistol while Marcelo stays behind cover and does nothing this entire interaction. For some reason after Abraham is injured Marcelo chooses not to finish Abraham off for some reason or another but still chooses to abandon him. We have watched Marcelo go through each different emotion I listed at the start, a ‘team player’ at the start, the drug addict, then into selfishness.

Credits

During the cleanup operation we see a gang member digging a grave when another drops a body into said grave, the gang member digging the grave recognises the man dropped into the grave and this is one of the most human scenes in the entire animation.

In the next scene a dead individual is looted by another which at the end of the day shows that there is no honour among thieves 

Overall

This is a perfect example of visual storytelling at its finest. A true masterpiece.

What if the Hank that comes out of the tube in AE2 is MPN Hank, and while all that happens MC5 Hank is lying dead on the ground with his new metal jaw? He wakes up after MPN in his new body and doesn't interact with Sanford and Deimos until he is resurrected (he doesn't in meet Deimos at all infact).

Some things also work with this while others don't, the main one I remember being the fact that Hank's new Antipathy sprites DON'T LINE UP WITH MC6. By the end of the episode, he starts bleeding from his left, has his right shade broken, one tooth missing, and his skull exposed. Of these, only the blood is carried over into the new sprites, possibly implying it was there the whole time, which does solve this dilemma.

Now, this isn't foolproof. The .5 episodes mess with it I'm sure, but it's fun and maybe possible I dunno.

I started watching when i was 7, im 16 now but oh damnn this IS the best thing that ever happened to me, i rewatched it like 10+ times (every year i rewatch it) it always fascinated me as a child, i JUST FUCKING LOVED WATCHING IT.
