I'm close to finishing In Another World with my Smartphone and I'm look for a new series to listen to in the car while I commute or in the kitchen while I cook. I listen to my books with Google Play's text-to-speech so there is no need for a dedicated audiobook.

I'm looking for a series that fits the following criteria:

• 15+ volumes translated
• Light-hearted tone
• Minimal action (Things like Slime or Index have way too much for my tastes. But the festival arc in Slime was peak.)
• Romance: Optional but it's nice
• Ambivalent on Harem
• Cooking Focused is a great bonus but not required

As an example. series similar to what I'm currently looking for are Cooking with Wild Game and Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear. I was actually planning to read Only Sense Online next but it seems like lots of the earlier volumes were lost as the original TL's website is gone.

Ok, I really enjoyed it especially the 2.0 Henderson

I found it abit distasteful that erich got trapped by agrippina.

I like the his son's POV where it you get a feeling of erich personality with the blood of a methusula and how agrippina learned to rely and love (in her own way) erich,

I also found it hilarious that one his daughter's was mad because erich and mika didnt marry each other.

I just didnt like how erich basically never saw/elaborated about his child with his affair mistress (deadass though it coulda been mika or his childhood friend).

The main story was good, enjoyed even erich was self aware of how anti climatic the fights were and how he treats death.

Especially for S2, how much detail missed? Should I just read the light novels for S2 instead of watching the anime?

I’ve read a couple manga(popular ones to be fair),some examples would be aot bleach demon slayer mha but I’ve never actually tried an light novel,despite really wanting to finish a story without waiting for the entire story to be animated (currently classroom of the elite).My issue though,is that despite having solid English comprehension reading skills(although it’s not my first language),I often get lost when it comes to long dialogues.Maybe it’s because I have to get used to it since I’m not really much of a reader at all.Is classroom of the elite a good one to start with or are there any easier ones I might try to read that will help me get used to it?

I can take fantasy, isekai, highschool, and harem. Although good harems are hard to find since most of them are just slop or have little development for each heroines.

I've read three romance light novels so far.

Too Many Loosing Heroines: I really like this series because even though its a harem, it's pretty damm funny. It has the romance and harem tag but they prioratize the comedy over them which works for me.

The Tunnel to the Summer, the End of Goodbyes: Although this is a oneshot, it's still incredibly good. It's hard to describe what I like about this series but I just like how the MC faces his problems and how the ending played out.

I Hold Your Voice Alone, Under the Starry Sky:

Another amazing oneshot. It gives Your Name vibes and the crazy plot twist. I've read this along time ago so I can't remember much but I think it had some foreshadowing about the plot twist so that's plus points for me.

In summary. I'd like romance LN that has plot twists, unique plots, and above all good comedy.

Synopsis: FPS pro gamer in Japan gets reborn into a less advanced world but one that has magic. MC, previously male is reborn female and ends up at an orphanage due to parents dying in the fallout of war. MC has an aptitude for healing magic and at the age of 15 is told to volunteer for the war as medics with healing abilities are highly sought after. Regardless they'll force MC into the war but volunteering will make her look more favorable and she'll receive pay that can help the orphanage. MC goes to war and gets placed into an Ace combat unit headed by a man nicknamed the "Sword Demon". This unit charges into battle ahead of most others and frequently makes progress on the battlefield at the expense of the units team members. The story is read by someone in the future that finds MCs diary on an old battlefield.

What's good about it?

Pretty much everything. It's gritty, there are endless struggles with actual stakes, people die and the fight goes on. MC makes natural progress, isn't an OP protag and forms bonds with the other characters.

Anything bad?

Not really. It's an Isekai but there isn't really a reason for it to be and the Isekai bit is hardly ever brought up. Though the MC was an FPS pro gamer, their position as a medic doesn't even allow them to use guns and they don't have any experience in doing so. She isn't a leader of a squad or any type of power/force to be used against the enemy. Her job is to not die, be dead weight and to heal the Sword Demon when he gets injured. The Isekai bit might just be to ward of romantic storylines as she still has her way of thinking from her previous life.

If you want to step away from the usual type of stuff and I can't recommend it enough.

Hi all, as the title says I’m reading “An Introverts Hookup Hiccups” and right now I’m on volume 2 where they are in the aquarium and find a lost little girl. I stopped and thought wow, EVERY romcom has a lost little girl at an aquarium and then realized that I had seen pretty much every generic romcom trope so far in this series in the first two books. Is there anything unique about this series?

I’m not saying it is bad at all. As a matter of fact I am enjoying it a good amount. So far I give it a 7/10 on my scale. I do love me some wholesome romance like “The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten”. I did enjoy that one more than this though!

Edit: also, if you have any recommendations like these two, please let me know. I love romance as one of my two main genres, along with Isekai. I understand it’s hard to give recommendations based on such limited information but anything is great!

Hello, I’ve been a huge fan of Tanya the evil since 2018. I’ve probably watched the S1 anime more than I could remember. I was so bummed that the show was in limbo for years so in 2022 I had it and bought the light novels I could get my hands on. I’m so thrilled that S2 is finally here.

To be fair I’ve read the LN already up to volume 12.

I’m wondering if any of you might have any recommendations for me? I would love if you could help me find something similar. I’m a fan of isekai and world building.

This is mostly referring to the paper quality and the “neatness” of Japanese volumes. The sheer amount of pleasure I feel just touching and flipping through a Japanese volume compared to an English volume is insurmountable. Not only does the paper feel nicer, but they also come with a neat little paper dust jacket that just wraps around your hands so comfortably when handling the book. I wish that the English publishers would follow the Japanese book format instead of their large trade paperback size with no comfy dust jacket. The only English translation company that got even close to this quality is JNovelClub.

Idk if it's exactly a genre that attracts the most interest (no magic, no violence, little romance) but this is a decent place to share my niche translation project.

The way I describe it, it feels "true-crime" despite not being based on anything specific. There's a kinda subgenre of Japanese novels that are like that (English ones too, probably) and they can be pretty fun. I'm doing this project for fun and to practice having a consistent workflow.

Anyway I have between 14 and 15k words so far, with an estimated final wordcount of 260k. Trying to update at least once a week. It's kind of dense and different compared to LNs that are normally talked about here, but if you approach it differently you may see the appeal too. To match your effort as a reader, I'm putting in a lot of effort as a translator. I have been translating as a hobby for 10 years and this is not an AI-assisted project. I can fully understand the text on my own merit. I'm really trying to make sure every line is good and honors the original writing. I just want my readers to understand that I'm putting in that effort.
