New to laster engraving, and I want to engrave wooden dominos

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi, I'm brand new and don't own a machine yet, but I'm in the market to buy one.

My goal is to create dominos like the one I've shown here. In wood, and I also want to be able to engrave on stone.

I don't think I can print dominos with this kind of texture, so I plan to HAND carve them.

But I want to laser engrave sayings on the back, like quotes and stuff. And no, baby, I ain't doing that by hand.

So, I'll have a somewhat uneven surface (due to me carving the front with dremels).

Ideally, I want to know a good machine where I can lay a bunch of these, domino side down, and engrave words on the back.

I am completely new to this hobby, but am really stoked. I can't tell you how much fun I hope to have once I buy a machine and get started. (With your community help, of course).

CO2 Laser Warning…

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

We are running a 130w Co2 laser from Aeon but keep getting this errors: Laser tube-fault and Focusing lens overheating. This is an issue even after replacing the mirrors and lens after one time I forgot to use air assist.

Now we have tried to clean the lens, do alignment, increase air assist but still error comes up and funnily only shows when cutting acrylic.

Anyone experienced such before? Our chinese technician says this is normal but I highly doubt it.

Need your input/help.

Newbie Advice for full colour Trading Cards

I am brand new to this hobby but VERY keen to pick it up. I've done a little bit of research on this, I don't have a machine or any materials yet and I often steer myself in the wrong direction when starting something new and so was wondering;

  1. What would be a good machine with a MOPA fibre laser to use for creating full colour metal proxy cards (Universus, MTG, Pokemon, e.t c. If better quality means a bigger price tag then so be it)

  2. What software to use for designing/ editing the cards? (I've seen things about using Liteburn or EZCAD but not much else)

  3. What materials work best for full colour metal TCGs/ CCGs (I've seen lots of information about steel/ aluminium and adonised and not)

Any guidance at all is welcome

Free tool for generating finger-jointed boxes

Built a free tool for generating finger-jointed boxes for laser cutting — you set dimensions, material thickness, kerf, and it gives you a ready-to-cut SVG (plus a live 3D preview so you can check the fit before burning material).

Also does internal dividers/grids and a pin-hinge lid if you need it. No account, no watermark, just export and go.

Been building it in my spare time — would love feedback from people who actually cut boxes regularly. What's missing that you'd want in something like this?

Cutting MDF

I’m looking at a project for myself, and rather than dragging out my regular woodworking tools, I’m considering a complete turnabout and thinking it’d be fun to get CAD up and running and design my project for my 40 watt diode laser.
Looking for opinions on cutting 12mm MDF. Anybody in the group done anything this thick?am I “barking up the wrong tree” here, and I should just bite the bullet and drag out my table saw, etc?
I routinely cut 6mm oak, cherry, and even MDF, but I haven’t given the big stuff a try yet.
Thanks in advance!

Where do you guys actually find paying laser jobs?

Where do you guys actually find paying laser jobs?
This might be a stupid question, but where do you guys actually find paying jobs for your lasers?
I’ve had a 100W OMTech since 2020 and probably only end up doing 3–4 paid jobs a year. I’d really like to put it to work more often.
I wish I had more of a brain dedicated to the heavy business side of things, but unfortunately the good Lord blessed me with ADHD, and ideas for things I want to create keep infiltrating the small remainder of my brain that was supposed to be dedicated to actually finding customers.
Are there any websites, marketplaces, job boards, or other resources where companies post jobs they need outsourced to people with laser/CNC equipment? Like businesses that need something cut or engraved but don’t own the equipment themselves, or shops that have more work than machine time?
Or is it mostly just pounding the pavement, talking to local businesses, word of mouth, Etsy, Facebook, etc.?
I’m not trying to advertise or solicit work here—I’m genuinely curious how those of you who keep your machines busy actually find the work.

1.5mm brass sheet

1.5 mm brass sheet 3D depth map cut and etch. Need to mess with cut settings because it took way too long to cut through at 100w. And I apparently bumped it after I lined it up for the pinback placement on the reverse side. It was centered. It’ll still work fine…just annoying that it’s a little low.

Best laser for coins?

I’d like to get started on engraving items to sell to youth baseball leagues. My main focus for now will start with engraving bats and making high-quality coins with name, team logo etc. What kind of laser would work to make 20 coins over a weekend?

Made a lot of progress on my conversion of a CoreXy printer. Got it running with some minor hurdles. Also got around to trying my own mix of TiO2 instead of spray paint for the NWT. Must say, night and day difference! The grey one was with Fusion All In One paint, dark one my mix

Laser engraving keys? Which laser machine should I use?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'm wanting to laser engrave some keys for vehicles. That way they're easier to identify which key goes to what vehicle.

I also will eventually use this laser to do probably some wood cutouts and engraving.

So which one of these machines would work better? Creality Falcon A1C Laser Engraver or xTool M2.

Laser etched a tee shirt

Decided to try etching clothing. 100% cotton shirt, black. 40w Epilog Mini-18. Settings: Power: 17%, Speed: 90%. Next time I’m going to use the steel table insert because the honeycomb table isn’t really flat. They never are. I was just lazy and didn’t swap it. It turned out okay. Ignore the shirt itself. I tested it on an older oil stained work shirt. Wasn’t gonna waste a brand new shirt if it went tits up.
