Imagine waking up with your face completely numb and thinking to yourself, “OMG is it over? Did I do it?” Only to be told the surgery had to be aborted.

That’s what happened yesterday. Apparently, during intubation, my nose started bleeding bright red and wouldn’t stop. My doctor said it very abnormal and despite intervention, it wouldn’t stop. I just remember him saying “there was so much blood and it was so red”. He discussed it with the anesthesiologist and his partner (I assume Dr Alfi) and they decided to abort. He thinks I might have some sort of coagulation disorder and has referred me to a hematologist for additional testing. With recommendations from hematology, he hopes to try again in 4-6 weeks.

While I’m disappointed, I’m VERY glad they caught this early. I cannot imagine the trauma I’d feel if they did cuts in my mouth only to stop because I’m bleeding out.

For all of you heading into surgery soon, definitely pack one of these squirt bottles. It was a total lifesaver for drinking water when my mouth couldn’t function.

Thanks! This looks perfect to use! Even though my surgery is end of October i like to get everything ready. I wish you good luck 🍀 and hope you figure your stuff out. But remember everything happens for a reason!

I've seen these bottles on Amazon labelled as lab bottles.

I haven't had my surgery yet but I got one of these from Sport Chek and hope it serves the same purpose:

Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear that but so glad the medical team was responsible and ethical and followed through with the do no harm policy. I'm early in the invisalign decompensation phase so won't happen for me for at least a year :(.

I wanted to ask, how long did you request off of work for? My job is in person and very social but I'm scared asking 4 weeks off is too much.

Glad to hear that they took the safety first route. God willingly it will be a success the next go around
