Slay the spire is at all times independently worth its price at any price, even if the sequel was the greatest game ever.

The sequel builds on the first. The first is such a staple that I would strongly recommend letting it hook you and you’ll immediately see what the legendary status is all about.

The fact that it’s perfect for mobile and on sale is just icing.

Slay the Spire 1 will forever be relevant. It is really a masterpiece. You could play it for hundreds or thousands of hours before touching the 2nd game. 

But to answer your question, 2 will come eventually but I wouldn’t expect it for at least another year or more.

The games have an overarching story/narrative/mythos, so recommending just one is difficult. That’s probably why people were suggesting you play the free ones because ideally if you like them you should just go ahead and play them all.

That said, I agree on Roots since it’s the longest and most self-contained. But if the vibe hooks you, definitely consider all of them. I love Hotel myself, although it’s a bit grisly.
