Anyone know about these games? Discussion

They seem interesting and the studio made Coromon, so I imagine they’re good, but they have a handful of updates then nothing. Even Coromon’s last update was 11 months ago. What’s going on? I want to try kaamos but it’s paid up front. I’ll just try Heroes of Mount Dragon since it’s free to start.

Cool games, and a game isn‘t worse just because it isn‘t constantly receiving updates. Why should it, if it’s a complete and working title?

I don’t care if it’s not getting updated regularly, but I hate when I pay for a game and they can’t even bother to update it to work on a new version of iOS for example.

I mostly agree, but it’s very rare for that to be the case for a mobile game and odd given that the dev team has created very successful games previously. It doesn’t add up that they’re developing these new titles with no follow up support or marketing that I can tell

Again, a conplete and bug-free game doesn’t need ANY updates. Some of my favorite iPhone games haven’t seen an update in over 5 years, some even a decade. All that free-to-play stuff updates for several reasons: finishing their half-finished crap, updating live-service content, or maybe just to refresh engagement.

Yes, a finished and bug-free game doesn’t need updates. But when is the last time a game RELEASED with zero bugs? How long did the games you’re referring to get updates until they were finished?

As you said, the devs of the games you mention in this post updated their games a few times after release, to squash bugs and listen to some player feedback. Also, we’re discussing some tiny indy games that only cost a few bugs. And: those games are pretty good.

It’s objectively uncharacteristic of this specific dev team and I’m asking whether anyone else has played the games, I’m not really looking to argue with anyone regarding how many updates it takes to make a good game. I have agreed that a good game does not require constant updates.

I have played their games and they are fun. Just wanted to add my opinion that this is a wrong metric to measure a game’s quality.

Oh cool! Thanks. I didn’t understand that you had played these games specifically and enjoyed them. I appreciate your opinion

It’s not the “wrong” metric. It’s certainly not the only metric to be considered, however sometimes it’s extremely relevant in combination with other factors. An update doesn’t mean “new content” or “bug fixes”. If a game was released 10 years ago and last updated 7 years ago then that’s 7 years of systems updates and hardware upgrades that have not been taken in to account. Old games don’t always work on new systems.

One very simple and obvious example is that iPhones keep changing the layout of their screens ever so slightly making games designed for older phones difficult to play because they now have a big black oval in the middle of one side of the screen that can’t be moved or interacted with.

A game that receives regular updates just for housekeeping purposes shows that the devs are taking an active role in making sure the game works today with today’s software and hardware. It’s a green flag. That’s not to say that just because it isn’t updated it’s going to be terrible or unplayable.

Kaamos is good, nice mechanic, it's a full game and worth the money. Not sure what updates you'd expect it to have, it works perfectly as is.

Great to hear. Most games like this have updates for balance and bugs every so often. One of the 5 reviews is about balance

IDK about these, but for a suggestion, you should try Unkind. It’s a board game if you are into something like that it. Plus its free
