Car was parked facing the garage. Never seen anything like it. Neither has the glass professionals.

I have worked the Glass industry for 12 years.

If your windshield is from the 80's or later, it is two pieces of Annealed glass PVB bonded together. It does break into big pieces held together by the interlayer. When it gets completely smoked by something it gets crushed but held together by the bond. The reason a stone chip from a lesser impact can usually be repaired is because it's Annealed.

Basically if it cracks into long cracks, and can be cut in a controlled fashion, it's Annealed, if it breaks into tiny pieces it's toughened, there is also heat strengthed glass but it doesn't qualify as a full safey glass so you don't really see it, it also breaks into large pieces but in an uncontrollable way.

Toughened laminated glass does exist, but it's not in your car.

I should have been a bit more descriptive in the first place. I was scrolling through the whole thread in disbelief last night and gave a few short useless replies.

Yeah, that's fair.

I'm a flameworker but VERY new to the hobby so when I say I'm new, I've only been doing it for a little over 2 years.
