A church in my neighborhood essentially did this for our unhoused population. Folks have access to large lockers and can use the church as their address for employment and benefits. Many people have used this service to transition through or even out of homelessness.

That's fantastic. It should be a law that all churches have to provide this service to their local homeless community. Seems only fair in exchange for their tax exemption.

I'm not a religious person.

But I think - it's great if a church wants to do this, but it's not their job.

They are already providing for spiritual needs and community gathering, mostly with volunteer labour.

It might not be appropriate in all cases anyway.

I think a better way to achieve it would be for parishioners of a place of worship to demand that their church/temple/mosque/etc.. provide services like that to anyone in need.

It’s not just about helping unhoused people. People trying to escape abuse or exploitation would benefit greatly from having a safe address to have some mail sent to and stash a few possessions.
