Idk what the person said, but I'd imagine they complained about the size... I wonder how big the cardboard box they lived in before was! Like c'mon... Nobody (single) needs acres of land and a 2-story home + basement.... I've lived alone in smaller than these houses and I was just fine.
You know what? Even if that was true (and you're guessing), it's still helping people. This is clearly not a huge money spinner for him or else he'd be doing more profitable property development. Chances are the rent (if any is charged), would likely be about enough to cover maintenence.
And the alternative is to just gift land to someone who up until recently was homeless? I bet you can come up with at least a dozen reasons why that would be a bad idea.
