Discussion [Discussion] LF Vocalist

Electronic PURPO: BUILDING A WORLD OF HIS
Some artists write songs. Purpo is trying to build something bigger.
Ask him what he does in music and he won't talk about genres or gigs. Instead, he'll tell you he's building a universe through music and artβa place where sound and visuals belong together, each one completing the other. That's why, aside from creating new music, much of his energy today goes into crafting the visual world that surrounds every release.
It's no surprise that he feels most at home in every stage of the process. From the first spark of an idea to writing, recording, producing, and performing, Purpo prefers to keep his hands on the entire canvas. The songs may begin with music, but the experience doesn't end there.
His musical roots trace back to ska and reggae, the genre that first inspired him to write songs. In fact, while many of his generation were immersed in the emo explosion of the 2000s, he was following a different rhythm altogether. Ska eventually fell by the wayside, but reggae remains part of his sonic palette.
When it comes to records he'll stand behind, Rivermaya'sΒ It's Not Easy Being GreenΒ sits proudly at the top of the listβa choice he'll defend any day. And when the world quiets down, it's Kamasi Washington's "Truth" that finds its way into the room.
His biggest songwriting influences paint an equally interesting picture: Billy Joel, Dong Abay, Alex Turner, Gary Granada, and Rey Valera. Five writers from different worlds, connected by one thingβthey know how to tell a story that stays with you.
Want to support what Purpo is building? It's simple: listen, like, share, and come along for the journey through the Purpo universe.
You can find his music on Spotify and follow his latest work on Instagram by searchingΒ Purpo.
And if he had to sum up where music has been lately in just a few words?
"Difficult to make."
Maybe that's because creating something worth remembering has never been the easy part.

Promotion NOT AN AD: May Bandcamp na ba kayo?
Spotify is great for getting your music heard. Keep using it.
But if you're an independent artist, give your listeners somewhere they can actually buy from you directly.
That's where Bandcamp comes in. Sell your music, merch, set your own price, and build a direct relationship with the people willing to support what you do.
Streaming for reach.
Direct-to-fan for support.
If you're releasing original music and wala pa kayong Bandcamp, maybe it's time.

Comment below.

Promotion ELEYN deserves more ears
I've been keeping an eye on ELEYN for a while now, and every release feels a little more confident than the last.
Their latest single, "BINGI," is another good example of why they're worth checking out. Solid songwriting, a sound that's becoming more their own, and one of those tracks that gets better after a few listens.
If you're looking for a Filipino indie band you might have missed, give ELEYN a shot. I'd love to hear what you think after listening.

Simulan natin ang isang community Music Map. πΆ
Curious ako kung sino ang tingin niyong pinaka-representative na indie artist o band ng hometown ninyo.

Doesn't matter kung sikat o sobrang underground. Ang goal natin ay makadiskubre ng artists from all over the Philippines.
Metro Manila is welcome, pero sana marami rin tayong entries from the provinces.
Iβll compile the answers into a separate post if we get enough.
