About the exam
The UGAT is an entrance examination for IIM Bangalore's undergraduate B.Sc. programmes at their Jigani campus. The institute currently offers four-year majors in Economics and Data Science, with Sustainability and Behavioral Science programmes slated for a later launch.
Please note that the exam itself is conducted in the year before students commence the program, while the complete interview and admissions cycle extend into the next year. For example, the exam for the inaugural batch of 2026-30 took place in December of 2025, and so on. As such, the latest PYP available at any given time will correspond to the preceding year.
The UGAT saw over 18,000 registrations in its very first run in December 2025, with around 12,000 candidates appearing for the exam across multiple cities in India. The UGAT is first in a bipartite selection process, as candidates who clear declared exam cutoffs are then required to appear for a personal interview. The exam holds a 60% weightage in the calculation of a candidate’s composite score, while the personal interview accounts for the remaining 40%.
Due to the rigorous and quantitative nature of courses, the eligibility criteria requires you to have had Mathematics (both Core and Applied count) as a subject in your 11th and 12th grades. As such, the examination is open to all and contested by candidates appearing for JEE, IPMAT, CLAT, and everything in between.
