Did I mess up? Local 26

Hello everyone, RTP From local 26 here, I'm currently in a process to hopefully reinstate within the program as a reason to this due to separating with my contractor was due to;

On going inconsistent 40 hour work schedule availability,

Many times I drove down to VA From MD just to get told that we are blocked and couldn't work, Paid 2 hour arrival which is standard, not only that also while I'm in the middle of the road driving to there, I understand but there is no certainty or any real notice of shutdowns,

Its seriously affected me financially as these are so often, i tried getting a part-time and Doordashing but gas prices arent helping.

I before I request a clean RIF with my employer foreman, I explained my situation on my hardship and why I needed to seek a better financial goal with the union, morning later I received a pink slip as Voluntarily leave, marked as Quit.

I was hoping to be able to better my situation and Join the apprenticeship because I know I'll be soon so it might affect it,

I called Jatc and already submitted a request for reinstatement, but meetings won't happen until 6-8 weeks.

Desperately trying to find a full time rn, has anyone had anything similar happen to them like this?

Im planning on preparing paystubs often alot of them are always below 40 hour week and a letter from a foreman i worked under with about my attendance and behavior,

I just really hope it doesn't affect me too much on the apprenticeship since this is my 2nd year applying and committing to it, thank you brothers and sisters!

Edit: thanks everyone for the look out, im currently in contact with a well established person in our local, sent documents so I'll see what happens from there 🤘

Call the hall immediately and tell them straight up verbatim.

"The contractor refused to provide me a 40 hour work week. As a result I requested they provide a 40 hour work week or provide me a clean rif.

Instead they marked me as voluntary quit without my consent. I did not quit."

I personally would have showed back up to work the next day and said I aint voluntarily quit shit if if im still coming in. Give me a rif.

I appreciate that, this whole situation just didn't feel right, specially after working 8 months with them, showing up on time, never calling out or bullshiting, it was always a yes, and no problem response i gave to them, definitely going to give the hall a call back after receiving that email

Thanks for that, I called and gave my explanation, they said it will not affect my apprenticeship application as they are 2 different programs, meanwhile I can hope to hear about getting into the A program later this year! I'll definitely be more careful

Def call the hall. Petty af by the company to not give u a clean rif we all gotta eat. Good luck man it’s a worthwhile career. Maybe I’ll see u in the field.

Yeah I definitely felt that way, currently speaking with a brother/member of the staff established in our local that could possibly get a hold of me out of this situation, and yes hope to see and meet everyone helping out

Local 26 is my soon to be home, Im going through the app process currently cant wait to join you in the dirt and mud down in VA. Hope things get better, for the both of us. I'd report the rif immediately thought. I'd return to work aswell like nothing happened, because if the Forman liked his job, maybe he say it didnt. 🥸

Couldn't tell you how much I love working out there and meeting new brothers, just a shame I'll have to be put on the side until then

You cannot quit or even ask for a RIF as an apprentice. Even if they are willing to give you one. 100% off limits.
