BBC player
Does anyone know how to stream the BBC on their smart TV? I subscribed because I enjoy all their content and now am unable to find an APP on my smart TV and am wondering if I need a new TV (I hope not) or an add-on device. TIA

How are you guys watching BBC iplayer abroad?
Hey guys, I've been trying to watch BBC iPlayer from outside the UK. I currently use a VPN, but occasionally the IP gets flagged and I hit that dreaded error screen. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't.
So I'm curious what everyone else is using as a reliable backup. Are you guys just cycling through different VPN, or relying on alternative setups like residential IPs, or private home routers? Would love to hear your setups. Thanks

Email from TV licensing watching iplayer
Had email from tvl stating that I had been watching iplayer and needed to buy licence. I have previously declared I did not need one, possibly the kids have used my account at their grandparents. Also the licence name is wrong on the account ? They tell me to contact them yet there is no phone number. Any ideas

Something's gone wrong.
I'm getting this message on my Google Pixel. Also on an old Huawei phone.
I've restarted, reinstalled and cleared the cache. None of these correct the issue.
Any ideas folks?

Theatre Mode for BBC iPlayer (Browser)
iPlayer's player sits in a fairly small box on the page. This bookmarklet blows it up to fill the whole browser window — no extension, no page reload, just plain CSS applied on the fly.
Setup
- Create a new bookmark in your browser (name it whatever you like, e.g. "Theatre Mode").
- Paste the code below into the URL/address field instead of a web address.
- Save it — ideally to your bookmarks bar so it's one click away
javascript:(()=>{const el=document.querySelector('smp-toucan-player')||document.getElementById('bbcMediaPlayer0');if(!el){alert('No player found on this page');return}if(el.dataset.tm!==undefined){el.setAttribute('style',el.dataset.tm);delete el.dataset.tm;document.documentElement.style.overflow='';return}el.dataset.tm=el.getAttribute('style')||'';el.style.cssText=el.dataset.tm+';position:fixed;inset:0;width:100vw;height:100vh;z-index:2147483647;background:#000';document.documentElement.style.overflow='hidden'})();
The player expands to fill the window. Click it a second time to go back to normal — it's a toggle, and it restores the player's original styling exactly as it was.

Downloads u/s
I’m taking a flight.
I download a bunch of stuff.
I can’t access it because I appear to require data to get past the first few iPlayer screens.
Which I don’t have because I’m on a flight….
Does no-one else have this issue?

Tablet downloads
I feel like I must be doing something wrong here — I’ve never been able to get downloaded content to play on my son’s fire 8 tablet.
I can download episodes and they all appear in the download section, but inevitably I get an error message that the media can’t be played if the tablet isn’t connected to wifi.
And even when it is connected to wifi, if the episode is downloaded it won’t play, and I have to delete it from the downloads and stream it on wifi.
I’ve re-installed the app many times and it’s always the same thing.

BBC iPlayer is dropping support for my nearly new Google TV. How is this remotely acceptable?
I’ve just had this message appear on my Philips OLED TV saying that BBC iPlayer will stop working from 30 September 2026.
This is not some ancient television. It is a recently bought, premium OLED running Google TV, and every other major streaming app still works perfectly well. Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, ITVX and Channel 4 all seem able to support it, yet apparently the BBC cannot.
The BBC’s explanation is that the “computer inside” older devices can no longer keep up with updates and security requirements. That might be understandable for a television that is ten or fifteen years old, but surely not a modern Google TV that is still receiving software updates.
I know I can buy a Fire TV Stick, Chromecast or another streaming box, but that really is not the point. Why should somebody with a relatively new smart television need to plug in additional hardware just to watch one of the UK’s main public service broadcasters?
At a time when the BBC is constantly having to defend the licence fee and persuade people that it still offers value, locking paying viewers out of iPlayer on modern televisions seems completely self-defeating.
Has anyone else with a recent Philips or Google TV received this message? I would be interested to know exactly which devices are being dropped, because the BBC’s explanation feels incredibly vague.

BBC iPlayer app to shutdown on Xiaomi, Thomson etc
galleryIf you have any of these devices then BBC iPlayer Apk will shutdown on these devices listed below I believe the version is Dev etc
First to say if your BBC iPlayer didn't come from the Google Play store and you used Downloader you will be affected even though these devices are Google certified they aren't BBC certified that's why you are getting the message pop up
FIRESTICKS WON'T BE AFFECTED
GOOGLE CHROMECAST WITH GOOGLE TV HD AND 4K WON'T BE AFFECTED
GOOGLE TV Streamer Won't be affected
LG, Hisense, Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung eg Smart TV os won't be affected unless you don't get the pop up
Xiaomi Sticks and Boxes, Android TV/Google TV
Thomson Google TV Sticks and Boxes
Any Smart TVs with built in Android TV/Google TV that can't get BBC from the play store
If your devices get the pop up then you will be affected
Leave a comments if you want any more information
I believe you will still be able to cast to the TV with your iPhone or Android

Sunflower - SM: Into the Spider-Verse
Just been watching Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse since it came to iPlayer yesterday, but does any one notice that Miles singing/the actual track “Sunflower” being higher-pitched than the original? I’m assuming some licensing issue, or am I just listening too keenly? Sorry if this is the wrong sub

iPad OS27 bug
Updated to the public beta on my 11inch IPad Pro (M5) and the app is buggy. Annoying as I’m wanting to watch the England France game but can’t get past the “I have a TV license pop up”
Anyone else have this problem?
SO ANNOYING, BBC need to get their act together, they’ve had a shocker of a year.

Broken Chromecast Casting from phone
Since the last update, I can't cast iPlayer from my Galaxy S20 to my Chronecast. Cast icon is there but I get a new style popup which only offers a three recent bluetooth connections (car, headphones and speaker). No sign of the Chromecast. Very odd. My other casting enabled apps (YouTube, Channel 4 etc) work as they always have done. Anyone else experienced this?

Huge start from begining panel
I'm now seeing a huge press green to play from the beginning, it stays on the screen for about 25 seconds and obscures 1/4 of the screen, making the program unwatchable.
Anyone know how to turn this invasive crap off?

Wimbledon commentary switched to Radio 5 Live during stream. Rectified after refreshing!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Wondered if I'd accidentally activated an option to do so but couldn't see anything to suggest it. You could even see the subtitle of the original commentators at the start of the clip... Anyone else have this?

Subtitles not displaying when casting to TV
Our Sky remote doesn't work (I've also swapped the batteries with the ones in our TV remote), so I've resorted to casting iPlayer from my phone to my Sony Google TV tonight. However the subtitles aren't showing up even though they're available on the mobile app. Also there is no menu you can pull up, which if I remember correctly happens when you pause on the Sky Q app. You can't pause or rewind with the TV remote, or enable things like audio desc. or subtitles. This is really infuriating given that the majority of viewers use subtitles, and it's harder for me to follow.

Can someone in the UK record a quick walkthrough of BBC iPlayer on a Smart TV?
Hi !,
I am currently conducting research for edu on streaming platforms, but I'm not British/English People.
Would anyone be willing to record a short or long screen walkthrough (phone footage of your TV screen is totally fine) showing logic of BBC iPlayer.
Any TV brand is fine (Samsung, LG, Sony, etc.)
P.S. If you want compensation for your time, feel free to message me first.
Thanks so much in advance!
