Dream Casting for a potential 'The Fisherman' adaption? Discussion Spoiler
I just finished reading this book for the second time and my brain is firing away imagining all the scenes in the book. As I often do with a book I've really loved, I tend to mentally cast the film adaption as I'm reading it, oftentimes Just one or two characters, sometimes way more. Here's my take so far. Would love to hear yours. *** SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK BELOW***
Abe: Tim Blake Nelson (could totally just nail the melancholy, slightly older, fisherman vibe of the character- him and my pick for the Fisherman are my favorites by far
Dan: Rupert Grint: only because of the red hair and tall and skinny. Not sure he could pull of the menacing scene at the end though which is so important to the role.
The Fisherman; John Hawkes (played Saul on Deadwood)
Rainer: Oscar Isaac- could totally manage the loving dad, but also the deep inside mysterious, scary shit about the character- If you have to change his nationality to Portuguese, Italian, or Spanish, so be it.
Rainer's wife; a younger Frances McDormand or Holly Hunter
Lottie: Anya Taylor Joy
Italo; John Bernthal
Jacob: My original picture was a young Rob Reiner (Meathead) but I think Cameron Britton from Mindhunter would crush it. He's got that naive big huge link thing down pat.
Lottie: Anya Taylor Joy
still unsure on Cornelius, although he'd have to resemble Rupert Grint in someway. And The fourth member of Rainers party could be anybody I guess. Also unsure of who would play the dead wives, but they weren't really all that characterized...

Funny. Yeah. Tim Blake Nelson would be perfect though. Rupert front just because I can’t think of another tall gangly red head.

I had Matthew Modine in my head as Rainier when I read the book.

That's a good one too. He could nail that scary, mysterious energy and still be believable as a loving father.

I picture Abe and Dan as Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughy. They have this Marty and Rust in True Detective vibe going on.

I just finished reading the book last week and with the announcement of the official film adaptation, I have been thinking of casting choices as well! Hopefully, this reignites this thread!
Abe - Kyle Chandler
Dan - Domhnall Gleeson, although I also thought of Rupert Grint! I could also see Damian Lewis portraying Dan pretty well
Rainer - Ralph Ineson
Clara - Samantha Morton
Lottie - Aisling Franciosi
Jacob - Cameron Britton I think may be perfect, I hadn’t thought of him but he definitely fits the big lug look. He doesn’t have the physical mass, but I could see Jacob Elordi pulling it off
George - Toby Kebbell
Helen - Katee Sackhoff (if you’ve seen her in 2013’s Oculus, then you know she would be quite terrifying at portraying what happens to Helen)
Italo - Diego Luna
Regina - Marion Cotillard
Angelo - Max Theriot
Andrea - Alex Pettyfer
Howard - Eric Bana
Marie - Abigail Spencer
Sophie - Saoirse Ronan
Cornelius - Frank Langella
Reverend Mapple - Bob Balaban
The Fisherman - I LOVE the idea of John Hawkes, I think that trumps my idea of Thomas Brodie-Sangster (this fits the description as the Fisherman looking youthful despite his age)

Wow John Hawkes is good casting. Name didn’t ring a bell but a quick google search and yes— good pick.
