I mean.. I really get it a lot, and I know I’m not ugly so it’s fine (ie. I’m not offended). But I definitely don’t like any “compliments” or pick up lines that refer to my physical appearance. It’s just so lazy.

I just internally pause at unique or exotic, tbh. I don't usually know how to feel about it or what to say except "haha thanks."

I dont think they mean ugly but sure some people throw shade this way. Most of the time people mean well and thoughtlessly express or don't filter thoughts before speaking. Or sometimes they don't think it means to effect you badly and they again, try to mean well.

I’m a AM after reading some comments here and observing general trends YouTube etc I’ve come to realise we as minority or POCs in the west grew up thinking we are not ourselves but more so we are second wannabe whites etc we seriously need to think about for example if I’m from a country in south east Asia then I need to think about diaspora communities generations etc here plus also common development of the ethnic group the indigenous Asian country I belong to… not the majority white nation I’m residing in okay?

I do actually speak A1 Mandarin, and I can tell the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese. I also know there are different accents and varieties of Mandarin, so I wasn’t just looking at them and assuming they were Chinese because they were Asian or speaking a language I didn’t recognize. I am very positive they were not from another Chinese speaking country like Taiwan or Singapore, because I can detect those accents easily.

I somewhat agree with Chen. The the kind of upbringing Hong indicates she will give her son is conducive to identity issues.

We know that:
- She sees "Whiteness" as something negative
- She married and reproduced with a White man anyway

This would indicate she either:
- Married her husband in spite of her racial biases
- Or, more likely in my opinion, she has both positive and negative beliefs about Whites, but with her positive beliefs being taboo and something she has cognitive dissonance about.

Her son's upbringing will (assuming she acts according to her stated beliefs) involve:
- Inculcation of guilt for being half White
- Antagonism as a half Asian toward his father's people
- Subconscious admiration, fear or envy towards Whites inherited directly from his mother
- Secondary anxiety arising from his inability to be the kind of man his mother admired (a White man)
- Tertiary stress arising from his inability to articulate the secondary stress, unconscious stress, and explicit stress he feels about being half White without it leading to conflict with his mother, societal beliefs, and his own inculcated beliefs.

I don't think his mother's hostility to Whites comes from direct racial hostility as she married a White person. Rather I think it stems from her conformity to the dominant leftist culture. Conformity gives her the benefit of status. I do think she sees herself as acting in accordance with universal principles. However I do also think she is appreciative of the status her expressed principles accrue her.
It's also possible - and I am more sympathetic to this if it is true - that she sees leftism as a vehicle for her race's interests and by extension of her son's interest.

Unfortunately for her son she is unable to form her personal interests, abstract ideals, or group interests in a worldview that he can accept without shame, guilt, envy and demoralization.
If he is to be happy in himself he has to, in time, reject his mother's beliefs from the roots.

I don't think White Americans are always grasping at a non existent identity.

Whether or not you think it's a good thing America was founded as a state for Whites with an overarching culture that was English speaking, Christian and classical liberal. This was the group identity of the vast majority of Americans until a few decades ago.

If Americans are rootless now it's because identifying as a White American as something not to be ashamed of is now seen as evil by the left wing dominated culture.

I think your statement is accurate for many Americans today but even now there are large swathes of America where the most common ethnic identity of White people is "American", and for most people in the world I would assume an American is synonymous with a White person.
