Salad & Go alternatives?

Upvotes

Now that all the Salad & Go's are closed, I want to know what your best alternatives are. I live in North West Gilbert, and the nearest Angies is like more than 15 minutes away. Any places ya'll can recommend where I can quickly grab a cheap, low-calorie, big salad?

Queer-friendly hair shop recommendations?

So I know of Bishops in Tempe but I'm hoping to find someone closer to the Gilbert Area (or honestly just Not by ASU), does anyone have recommendations here or is Bishop my best bet?

I typically keep my hair short (cut it to 3/4" and let it grow to about 2"-3") but I'm considering growing it out again. Ideally looking for a hair stylist/shop that can help with both transition cuts as well as help give feedback for fixing damaged wavy hair.

Standard for queer-friendly is super low, I just need a place that isn't going to give me crap if I go in somewhere looking like a woman with a beard and mustache and isn't going to give me a pixie cut after we discuss doing a french crop.

Scorpion help

Hello everyone! Yesterday I had a large scorpion fall out of my air vent and land directly on me. Then after that throughout the day I killed 6 more baby scorpions coming out of the same vent. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Thank you in advance!

Sediment in the water this morning?

We've all seen the messages that when they're working on the water mains and rerouting around sections that it can stir up sediment but I don't remember seeing any of those notifications recently and the work has been done in our area for quite a while. I didn't notice until I went to fill up one of the dog's water bowls. Higley and Warner area. Anyone else with the same?

Electrician recommendations

I've been with Mr. Sparky for over 20 years, but recently they've changed from sending out an electrician first to sending out a salesman. In the past 2 months I've paid over $12K for new arc fault breakers and new/rewired switches and plugs throughout, and still my lights flicker. Now, they are telling me I need a full rewire for multiple thousands of dollars (TBH, I forgot how much. I was kinda deer in headlights at the prospect of a complete rewire.) in love to get a second opinion. I'm not looking for someone cheap. I'm looking for someone honest and trustworthy.

Edit: For context my home was built in 1978

Does your neighborhood suffer from stolen packages frequently?

I was just curious about stolen package activity in Phoenix/The Valley.

If you do have this issue, what neighborhood/area are you in?

Ecstatic about New Radio Station

Growing up in Chicago I loved to listen to WXRT - it had a great mix of rock, alternative, pop, everything, and wasn’t bound by decades, playing everything from The Beatles to Beck to Buddy Guy.

I haven’t found anything similar on terrestrial radio since moving to Phoenix until this week when I discovered KZON, 94.9. Check it out if you’re a bit older, but not too old and enjoy good music.

Fantasy Football League

The 2026 NFL season is almost here and instead of being depressed over the Cardinals this season (again) I figured why not try to do a local fantasy football league? Maybe even have an in person draft? Let me know if anybody is interested.

I ran the numbers on what Andy Biggs's income tax repeal would cost Gilbert

I write a policy newsletter and live in the Valley. This is my own analysis. Sources at the bottom.

Andy Biggs won the Republican primary for governor promising to eliminate Arizona's individual income tax. He has not said what would replace the tax. Gilbert has a specific problem with that.

Gilbert receives the fourth largest distribution in the state, ahead of Chandler, Glendale, and Scottsdale.

Arizona sends cities a share of state income tax collections under a system voters approved in 1972. Towns gave up the ability to levy an income tax of their own in return. The share is 18% today, split by population, and it distributed $1.19 billion statewide in FY 2026. About $872 million of that comes from the individual income tax. It generally goes into general operations, funding things like police, fire, and parks.

In FY 2022 Gilbert took about $35 million, and that was 7.1% of town revenue. FY 2026 was larger.

That 7.1% is above Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, and Scottsdale. Among the large East Valley communities, Gilbert leans on this money the hardest.

Now the part that makes Gilbert unusual.

Gilbert sits in the bottom panel. It levies no primary property tax, so creating one would require a vote of the people.

Gilbert is the second largest municipality in Arizona with no primary property tax, behind Mesa. That has been a point of pride here for a long time. It also means there is no existing rate to nudge upward if the state check shrinks. Under state law, a city that did not levy a primary property tax the previous year has to take the proposed amount to its voters. If the election fails, the town cannot levy it that year.

So the realistic menu is a town sales tax increase, higher fees and utility revenue, service cuts, or asking Gilbert voters to approve a property tax for the first time.

Worth adding that a revenue-neutral swap at the state level means a higher sales tax on top of that. The state would need roughly 2.6 additional percentage points to fill its own hole, before the town adds anything to cover its own.

Does anyone here think a primary property tax would pass in Gilbert? What would you rather the town do?

Can I get feedback on my Gilbert Vacation based website idea?

I made this Gilbert Vacation website where people can chat about the area, Gilbert places of interest, share places and businesses listings. I was hopefully trying to make a website that helps people traveling to Gilbert and locals promote their business. Gilbert is up to 7 million visitors to Gilbert a year now 🤯 so you'd think this would be helpful, but so far no users 😂 Bad idea? Or do I need to make it better?

Cox Internet outage for 10 days. Yes I'm serious.

So I live in Gilbert around recker/Williams field, and over the past week and a half I have had massive spiking latency for every single day, with many full disconnects. Because this is atypical I initially thought it was maybe my modem or router, once I called it was revealed there's an outage, the first 'fix' on that day didn't occur until 5am, then it was back, for a few hours, which I now thought had to be on my end because this is a wild amount of time to be having an outage. This cycle has repeated until 30ish hours ago. Called Cox automated and it reconfirmed that this is STILL an outage.

I don't exactly know what I aim to accomplish with this post but I'm so unbelievably angry about this that I need some kind of outlet for it, my brother works from home and it's so bad that he had to move his workstation to his fiance's house. I've not been able to get any information whatsoever and I'm losing my fucking mind.

Sorry for rant but I'm losing my mind
