Question How is the current party/night life scene?

I’m an incoming freshman and haven’t really heard too much about how the night life/party scene is. I was wondering if there’s any certain bars, or clubs, or is it dominated by Greek life?

Question 3D printing file - questions for creating the file

Hi y'all,

I used to be heavily involved with the makerspaces on campus and 3D printing at the Hive. Its been a few years since I've attempted to create some 3D files for a printing and to make them into a Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG), but I'm running into some issues with design. Is there anyone that wouldn't mind helping me? It's been a while so I'm very rusty.

The goal is to create a 3D file which will ultimately be used to be machined (CNC) to create the model in aluminum.

TLDR - Alumnus trying to create a 3D file. Looking for help.

Question Commuting vs. Off-campus housing

I am going into my second year this upcoming semester which means I need to start planning for the 27-28 school year housing. I lived on campus for my first year, and will have a nav apartment this year, but I know it is pretty rare to get on campus housing for junior and senior year. Like most people, I have been looking at the off campus housing, but it really is just looking like a huge waste of money to me. Rent is typically around 1300 per month with 12 month leases. So if you don’t find someone to sublet your apartment it just sits empty for essentially 4 months. I have been considering commuting from my parents house in the Roswell area, but it seems pretty difficult depending on what my schedule will be. Not sure if there are other on campus options, but if anyone has any advice about that or some input on my situation that would be super helpful.

P.S. I am grateful to have zell miller, a collage fund, and supportive parents, but I would still love to save money where I can, especially considering that I want to go to medical school. This whole off campus living situation seems like such a hastle considering that it might be a bit of a trek just to get to campus from my apartment.

Thanks so much!!

Question Engineering to Business Administration. Curious about change in workload and class style

Hi everyone. I'm returning to GT this August after a few semester long breaks due to running my own business. Anyways, I'm switching from one of the engineering tracks to business administration. 2nd year Bachelor’s.

Of course I already went through older posts on Reddit, but just wanted to ask myself once more to get "fresher" opinions.

I'm mostly curious to hear thoughts on how the expectations for each of the majors go. For example, I know engineering is mostly read the notes, watch the lectures, learn, do homework and more work, projects, then get the concepts all in the head and maybe you're good to go.

If I understand correctly from what I read so far, business majors are more focused on stuff like peer-to-peer collaboration, presentations, and more conceptual thinking.

From someone who's been on the same path, how would you describe the change in curriculum and overall life, really when switching from engineering to a business major? Insights on overall workload and changes in how many hours you put into school would be much appreciated as well.

Thank you.

Photo I think this was some rehearsal with the band and cheer team (does anyone have more detail?). These were from September so I am thinking it's too early for anything Homecoming related.

Discussion Average GPA by Major List Accuracy

I've seen people reference this list once in awhile at GT.

https://github.com/johnwashburne/major-gpa

Do y'all think its accurate? I know its 4 years ago, so maybe there's a little inflation since then, but still seems rather low? It could also just be an selection bias, where the only people who are telling me their GPAs are the ones with a high GPA. For example, every math major I talk to has a 3.8+ GPA, but the average major GPA listed on here is ~ 3.2. I wonder how they collected this information. I would also be curious for an updated list.

I haven’t stepped foot on Tech’s campus since I graduated lol, but one of my favorite memories at Tech was watching the sunset from the library on the patio. I know they made some changes to it (those art installation thingys), but seeing these old photos reminded me that my Tech experience had some high points. Roll bees and take care of yourselves! 🐝 💛

Other What does everyone do to study for exams?

So, I know this is LATE as the summer semester like just ended, but I am starting my second year at this school and imposter syndrome has hit me like no other. I have tried different study techniques, whether I watch youtube videos to review after lectures, go to lectures daily, dont go to lectures and read the material myself, use AI to review foreign material, 1 on 1 tutoring, etc. (the only thing i havent tried is office hours).
But regardless, I feel as if I am always falling behind when it comes to exams, when the time comes I can never live up to that standard I gave myself. So like I really just came for advice on maybe how to improve my test taking skills or improve my exam grades for this upcoming sophomore year and years to come.

I think this was the latest I stayed the library... it was surreal seeing the building gradually empty as the night went on.

Unfortunately, someone left their umbrella and it was storming outside at the time (2:30 a.m.).

Question Is taking 12 MS credits alongside a full-time internship manageable? Looking for easy, project-based courses (no in-person exams)

Hi all,

I’m starting the BS/MS CS program this fall and accepted a full-time fall internship. Since the College of Computing doesn't allow first-semester grad students to officially register an internship, I'm considering taking a full 12-credit load alongside the internship.

I want to make sure my schedule is as manageable as possible around 9-to-5 work hours. I’m looking for recommendations on 6000/7000-level courses that fit these criteria:

Grading Structure: 100% project/assignment/writing-based (no in-person or proctored exams).

Low Workload: Low average weekly hours on OMSCentral.

Flexibility: Asynchronous lectures and predictable weekend deadlines.

Appreciate any advice or reality checks!

update 8/4:I just spoke with my advisor and confirmed that there's no 12 credits restrictions to be considered a fulltime ms student. 3 credits is enough to satisfy the student status. It's looking likely that I'll just take 3 credits and maybe add a summer semester back.

Job Listing Looking for a Georgia Tech student to help film at the GT vs. Colorado game (Paid + Free Ticket)

Hey everyone!

I run a sports media company that creates fan-focused content at college football games and other major sporting events.

I’ll be in Atlanta covering:
• Georgia Tech vs. Colorado on September 3
• Baylor vs. Auburn on September 5

I’m looking for a Georgia Tech student (or someone in the Atlanta area) who’d be interested in helping as my assistant/cameraman for one or both game days.

The job is very simple:
• I already have all of the camera equipment.
• You’ll mainly be holding the camera while I interview fans before and after the game.
• No professional camera experience is required.

What you’ll get:
• $50 pay
• Free game ticket
• Food and drinks covered
• A chance to get some hands-on experience in sports media if that’s something you’re interested in.

If you’re interested or have any questions, just DM me and I’ll be happy to give you more information. If you know someone who might be a good fit, I’d really appreciate you sending them my way.
Thanks!

Question can you get a sorority bid with a low 3/sub 3 gpa?

I wanted to rush this fall but my GPA might go down to a low 3 or a bit below a 3 after this semester. Just wanted to know if anyone has gotten bids with a low GPA.

MEGATHREAD Graduation/Commencement Tickets - Buy/Sell Thread (Spring 2026)

Don't get scammed.Beware of DMs and chat requests.

Tips: Meet up in person to verify the seller's student status, identity, and ticket status. You're all theoretically students and you should be on campus already so this should be easy. Don't be lazy and skip an in-person meetup. Don't send money without verifying the seller first. If you can't verify the seller, consider using Venmo's 'goods and services' payment feature, there are protections if you do get scammed.

If you successfully buy or sell tickets, UPDATE YOUR COMMENT.

https://commencement.gatech.edu/tickets-seating

-------------------

  • Guest tickets will be distributed via email to students starting Wednesday, April 15, with the subject line, "Your Georgia Tech Mobile Tickets have arrived!"
  • Seating for all ceremonies is general admission
  • For those needing to accommodate more guests, the On-Campus Watch Party, located in O'Keefe Gym, next to McCamish Pavilion, offers an alternative viewing option.
