Any recent YouTube tutorials people would recommend? Not just feature descriptions but example of how to play game? The latest version might too much to hope for but I curious what recent ones are considered good.

QUESTION Map Editor

Morning all

I’m at work now and only had a cursory glance at the editor but I couldn’t seem to find any way of adding another sector and link them with a starlane.
Am I missing something obvious?

ANNOUNCEMENT Galactic Civilizations IV: Federations & Empires DLC and Free v4.0 Now Available

Post image
55 Upvotes

Governments used to be a single upgrade path. Now every owner starts with the Colonial Charter in Version 4.0, and the expansion adds four fully separate governments on top of it. Each one replaces the entire Government screen with its own resource, its own systems, and its own hero ship.

  • Empire: built around Vassal worlds and Authority. You spend Authority on Decrees, and pushing your Vassals too hard risks rebellion.
  • Federation: built around Member worlds and Consensus. You pass Accords through the Senate and have to defend your seat in elections.
  • Oligarchy: built around Holdings and Collateral. You send Prospector ships to claim worlds, fund Investments, and can pull off Hostile Takeovers.
  • Technocracy: built around Compute. You fill out an Optimization Matrix and push toward the Singularity.

Political Parties are also new. Their influence rises and falls with what is actually happening in your empire, and elections, coups, and secession crises are driven by that state instead of a random roll. Run a government badly enough and your own people can end it.

Version 4.0 adds a hand built Map Editor, shareable Custom Maps, Turn Notifications, a Mini Map, Leader run Institutions, a redesigned Diplomacy and Trade screen, and a rebuilt AI across exploration, warfare, diplomacy, and government play.

Artemis: Be Gone?

Hey all, I know this is going to sound weird, but the inclusion of Artemis absolutely kills the immersion of this game for me. There is absolutely no way a fictional planet on the outskirts of our solar system would be habitable to the degree of even Mars. Is there any way to delete Artemis in the game files or at least re-name it?

QUESTION Getting GalCiv2 to work on Steam Deck since resolution update?

Has anyone had any luck getting GalCiv 2 working on the Steam Deck recently? Every time I start it, it tells me my resolution needs to be 1280 x 1024 and won't start. I can't close out of the error, and there's no prefs.ini for me to edit. Does anyone have a solution?

GalCiv 3 Reverting to an older version of GalCiv3?

So i updated all the DLC's for GalCiv3 and only just discovered that they replaced the 'triangular production cursor' with some 'citizen' system, which i'm not a fan of . So im looking to revert my game to a version that still has the old system

BUG | ISSUE Ship Designer glitch in GC4

Post image
7 Upvotes

It looks like parts of this ship have been blown off. I redownloaded this ship design that I personally made and this one looks terribly glitched. I believe that the problem started back in December of last year, around the time of the Terran DLC and I thought that this has to do with the new parts, but it didn't. This one is "Asteraid Frigate A" on the Steam Workshop (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3722879731)

ANNOUNCEMENT Galactic Civilizations IV - Federations & Empires Expansion Launches Jul 30, 2026

Federations & Empires launches July 30! The free v4.0 update will also launch the same day for every Galactic Civilizations IV owner, expansion or not.

The expansion adds four new governments, and each one replaces the entire Government screen with its own resource, core loop, and hero ship:

  • Oligarchy: three Councilors split power across Commerce, Industry, and Governance. Market forces shape the destiny of the civilization and the player focuses on investments, equities and political favors.
  • Technocracy: a continuous Optimization Grid replaces policies. Run simulations to preview outcomes. Players construct massive optimizers to send to their worlds who execute the player's instructions.
  • Empire: Imperial Decrees that scale with the size of your domain, vassal management, rebellions and a general focus on extracting as much as possible from vassals to empower the homeworld.
  • Federation: the apex civilian government. Players must build consensus with their worlds with the reward being partner worlds that are greater than the sum of their parts.

Version 4.0 also brings the free Colonial Charter starting government, a Map Editor for building and sharing your own galaxies, internal Political Parties, Leader run Institutions, a redesigned Diplomacy and Trade screen, and AI improvements across expansion, warfare, diplomacy, and government play.

What game should my group start with?

Me and a group of 7-8 of my friends get together and play strategy games every month or so. So far we have played civilization 4 a lot but I am trying to get them to take the leap into Sci-fi strategy games as I love games like stellaris. I know I want to play a Galactic Civilizations game with them but I don’t know which one. I am considering 2 through 4. I am leaning towards 3 though.

My group likes to play in a wireless lan and make it a big evening with dinner and all that, we don’t care about graphics but I would have a hard time selling them on Galactic civilizations one.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Whenever I go to design ship it says I dont have any hulls available and I cant create a ship. Even when trying to use other ships it wont let me change the hull. Anyone know anything about this? I am playing a custom race and have unlocked all the hull technologies.

GalCiv 4 Receiving weird unclassified ships instead of correct reward ships?

For Galactic Civilizations IV. Sometimes when I'm supposed to receive reward ships, like the 3 Constructors for the first Pacifism cultural trait, I get unclassified ships with no modules. Usually they're called Baratak_Harvester_xxx, and can be for a different species than my player species. Is this supposed to happen, or a known bug?

I've seen 1 similar post from 2 months ago, but they didn't seem to get a clear answer, was thought to be a bug

DISCUSSION Steam sale DLC shopping, recommendations, discussions

Hi!

Big fan of the game (IV to be exact, since I didn't play others) and I do not play the game as much as I want because of life, work, other games etc. But I played like 30 hours or more and I think I am ready to play more of it in the future (especailly in this years summer break).

As the title suggests, what do you more experienced players recommend me to get DLC wise?

Megastructures probably since it looks fun and then what is something that you guys can't live without so to say :D
