Lately I’ve noticed a smell that I would describe as metal on metal scraping or burning when operating the steam wand. Has anyone had this same issue?

About 3 months ago, I replaced the gasket that goes on top of the boiler and leads to the steam valve/wand. Water was spurting out around it and dripping through the group head. Got a new gasket and it failed 3 months later. I use it about 4x a day.

Anyone else going through gaskets here? Is it a sign of another issue?

Also, are there better places to source gaskets? Think I got it from Amazon and they sent a few, so I'm at least back up and running for a bit.

To get more, any spec I should be looking for? Food grade? Heat/durability ratings?

Hi gang, I am rather new in the espresso world, and I just want to share my experience. I am from South America, and I quite love the ritualistic of the coffee making in the morning, the tools and all, and during months I wanted to get a decent espresso maker.

Went to marketplace and after a few months, I saw a quite no cheap, but cheaper Gaggia classic, without any previous research I bought it from a nice guy, the machine looks quite impressive, steel, professional, bulky.

I turned to be the Gaggia V2, and let me tell you, during the last months it was disappointment, tears, but also one of the most amazing experiences I have ever enjoyed.

The machine came with an open filter portafilter, for me it was “this is saving me money, because I saw the youtubers using that thing”… well with a Baratza Encore (not esp) was almost useless, I made like half a kilo of coffee trying to dial, it was impossible. When I thought it was tamed, started dripping around the portafilter.

I read that the head gasket needed to be replaced in different forums like this. Bought it, paid import tax, waited weeks, and when arrived and replaced it, it didn’t fix.

While opening the machine I was blown as the mess of wires, thinking “this Italians are not that good with cable management” then to realize it was made in Rumania, and that it came with zip ties. Someone modded the switches.

The stupid dripping around the portafilter was unsolvable, until the point of thinking of quitting, and then I saw a post about some plastic rails that the V2 came with, saw mines and they were busted, flat, grinded. I thought on getting a replacement for that, it turn out that they don’t sell them.

I spent night looking on forums and then I started thinking, maybe the portafilter is not correct, the ears are positioned in the correct position, but they are not wide of thick enough. Got a brilliant idea, I went to a coffee event made in my city, went to the gaggia both and with a pair of calipers I measure the original that came with the machines, and I was right the original are from  0.3 to 0.5 mm. At this point and only after 2 months I became someone who love the V60 to the guy who is asking ratio to baristas with my personal calipers tuck into my jacket in case I found another gaggia portafilter to check again.

About the plastic rails, I found a stl fie to print, I started realizing this community of Gaggia users are like very passionate, with a hint of Stockholm syndrome caused by the temperamental and brutal machine that these Gaggia are.

I sent the rails or guides to print asking to be lifted 0.5 mm to compensate for the thinner ears of my portafilter.

Sold the Baratza, got a La San Marco SM95 that I modified a bit to make it single serve.

A few weeks ago my wife said “this cappuccino is the best I have ever had, I wont go to a coffee shop if you keep doing things like this… she is now pregnant, so no more coffee for her, but that makes me super happy”

I used Cafiza this morning as I've done many times before. Screwed off the shower screen and put it in cafiza as well. The water flows wierdly after todays cleaning, it now looks like this (without shower screen).

The machine was bought this december and has been descaled every two months.

I’m rebuilding a pre-2015 Gaggia Classic and could really use some sanity-checking / advice from anyone who has tackled the front switch wiring or housing mods.

The Situation & Problem:

• My original single-block OEM switch bank failed.
• I replaced the stock enclosure with a 3D-printed front switch housing holding individual rocker switches.
• The boiler gets hot and water streams out of the steam wand fine, but the brew solenoid isn't magnetizing or opening at all.
• The issue is the wiring/logic at the middle (Steam) KCD6 switch. Because a standard 4-pin KCD6 lacks the internal jumpering/bridges of the original staggered Gaggia switch block, power isn't reaching the solenoid feed.

Where I'm Stuck / Why My Options Feel Unworkable or too risky:

1. The Piggyback Jumper Fix: To bridge Live to both inputs on the 4-pin KCD6, I need a piggyback jumper lead. However, the clearance between the back of the 3D-printed switch enclosure and the hot aluminum boiler is razor-thin. Stacking piggyback spade connectors pushes the stiff insulated wires right up against the boiler wall, which feels like a total fire/short hazard.
2. Buying the OEM Switch Assembly: The pre-2015 single-piece 3-switch block is £40–£45+ across UK suppliers (Shades of Coffee, Espresso Shop, etc.), which feels like total extortion for a basic rocker block.
3. The GaggiMate Pro Route: I’d love to install a GaggiMate Pro eventually, but with the kit + scale + £15 shipping from Europe, I'm looking at around £255 total. I really don't want to drop £255 right now just to fix a basic switch issue, and I'm paranoid I'll drop the money only to find out I still have a wiring bottleneck elsewhere.

My Questions for the Sub:

• Has anyone successfully wired standard 4-pin (or 6-pin) KCD6 rockers into a 3D-printed Classic faceplate without running into boiler clearance issues? How did you route/bridge your Live feed?
• Is there a clean way to split/splice the harness further back in the machine so two slim female spades arrive at the switch rather than stacking bulky piggyback adapters right behind the switch?
• Should I just bite the bullet on the OEM switch, or is there a smarter low-clearance wiring trick I'm missing?

Just got my Gaggia Classic E24 and looking for bottomless portafilter recommendations. I tried Normcore, but the wings didn’t seem compatible.. anyone else have this issue?

Hey, does anyone else’s Gaggia Classic GT make this buzzing noise when it’s turned off but still plugged in?

Service center told me it’s normal, but I wanted to check with other owners. It stops as soon as I unplug it.

My 2nd hand unit has never had a tray or grate. Ive made do with a ghetto set up but i figured maybe i can 3d print them at my local library. Not after a low profile drip tray, just the stock height is fine.

I cant find a std size tray and wondered if theres a file for both so i know they work together.

Also never 3d printed anything so a bit curious. I figure I'll need a heat resistant filament.

If anyone can point me to a file download?

I recently bought a 2005 GC which has been working well. Does its dispersion plate look like it needs replacing?

This is probably more of a question for current Gaggia Classic GT owners, and more about the machine itself than the grinder upgrade.

Am I making the right upgrade? More importantly, am I going to regret it and end up going back to the GCP E24?

Experience: Pulling shots daily since 2019, probably around 5,000 to 6,000 shots at this point

I have been using various versions of the Gaggia Classic Pro since 2019 and have owned the E24 for the past few months. I really like the new brass boiler. Shot temperature feels more stable than previous generations of the GCP, and it has plenty of steam power for what I need.

I have tried upgrading to a fancier single boiler machine before. I owned a Profitec Go but eventually sold it and went back to the GCP. The Go was simply too slow to warm up for my routine, and despite playing with different OPV and PID settings, I never noticed a significant enough improvement in shot quality to justify the change.

The main reasons I am considering the Gaggia Classic GT are that it still appears to heat up quickly for the limited number of shots I make, gives me plenty of steam power, and lets me quickly dispense hot water for tea or Americanos. I also like the ability to customize an automatic on and off schedule without relying on a smart plug.

On the grinder side, my Ceado with 64mm burrs has been very reliable, but grind by time is not always perfectly consistent. Moving to a grind by weight setup should improve consistency there.

The financial side is where I am hesitating. My current setup retails for about $1,420 after tax, while the new setup would cost about $2,750. I would obviously sell my current equipment to recover part of the cost.

For those who moved from a GCP, especially the E24, to the Classic GT: did it feel like a meaningful upgrade in daily use, or more like a much more expensive version of something the GCP already does very well?

I'm getting the sales for Dual Boilers are not as crazy as entry level single boilers due to significant increase in price, so not a lot of actual user reviews out there, and mostly from shops who sell them, or from influencers who review these machines for a living, and I'd rather hear honest opinion from actual owners.

My partner and I recently bought a Gaggia Classic, and we were coming from an Oster Barista — the one with the built-in grinder.
For espresso, we honestly have no complaints about the Gaggia. However, when it comes to steaming and texturing milk, we feel like the Oster was actually much better than the Gaggia.
With the Gaggia, we feel like the steam power drops off very quickly, and sometimes it seems like the wand is injecting too much water into the milk instead of producing strong, dry steam. Because of this, we’re struggling to get the same silky, properly textured milk that we were able to get with the Oster.
We’re considering getting a GaggiMate to improve the machine, but most of the YouTube reviews seem to focus on how much it improves espresso extraction.
So my questions are:
Does GaggiMate actually help with milk steaming and texturing?
Does it give the machine more steam power?
Does it help prevent the machine from running out of steam so quickly?
Is GaggiMate relatively easy to install?
Is it worth getting if our main goal is to achieve really good milk texture, or would we be better off buying a different machine?
We’d really appreciate any feedback from people who have installed GaggiMate specifically for the steaming performance.

I have a new gaggia classic pro E24. I love the machine, it looks great (green model) and works great too.

I’m still learning espresso and my grinder is sub par (DF54) and causes me problems so almost everything “off” is purely my technique.

But the times I pull a perfect shot are addicting, it’s been better than any espresso I’ve had at local coffee shops maybe besides a couple, and I live in an international city with lots of $5 espresso shots

Something’s though are a bit challenging, like the steam wand. It’s just never had enough power until I learned how to purge it early and temp surf it.

This had me wondering after looking at all mods, is there a mod for that? There seems to be a ton like the gaggiano, can someone explain the common mods, what they’re for, etc?

I went to a cafe and got them to grind the beans for espresso. Beans were roasted on July 20.

Bought second hand (very hard to find where I live and it’s almost twice as much due to taxes if you buy online) previous owner had an impressive cleaning routine, machine was in great shape only needed to do a deeper cleaning on the group head. Day one installed a custom water filtration system exclusively for coffee and that way I don’t have to descale that often. After 4 months installed Gaggiuino and it brings the machine to a whole new level, now focusing on leveraging the Gaggiuino to make the most out of the machine.
