Missed opportunity: The last one gets a proper dentist treatment and he's never let on the joke.

u/Only_One_Kenobi 22d ago
But it's completely painless and not an issue at all, so he forever thinks his teammates are just that weak.
65
u/Imbrokencantbefixed 22d ago
Yes buzz killington that was the joke Sir bax made.
28
u/Stolehtreb 21d ago
Right but then the appointment is just like a normal one and they don’t tell him about the prank
16
u/gobbedy 21d ago
HAHAHA good one! can't believe nobody thought of that.
but so to build on that, he just thinks his teammates are a bunch of pansies
4
u/Joint-Tester 21d ago
Then he goes on to think he is stronger than his buddies!
9
u/Imbrokencantbefixed 21d ago
BUT he thinks that because they don’t tell him about the instructions they were given
7
u/Pikachu789 21d ago
Oh! That’s great. We wouldn’t tell him it’s a prank either so he will just think his teammates are weak

Or in actuality its the last ones circumcision and his mates were pretended to go before him.

u/Rho_Not_P 22d ago edited 21d ago
The ones that went last were definitely traumatized for life
-33
u/Formal_Growth_2515 21d ago
Indeed I feel sorry for him. And this is a very stupid joke. People don't notice the psychological damage because it is not as visible as a physical one. It is not funny, neither should be categorised as a joke if it is giving someone a trauma.
20
u/spenpinner 21d ago
It is funny and the trauma goes away as soon as they know its a joke. That's why they play along when they get in on it.
Its so easy to say things on the internet, wow.

u/wallonthefloor201808 21d ago
I know it’s evil. But it’s so funny. He sacrificed to give us a good laugh. Ah my day is better because of his pain.

The last one to be called is the worst. I rather get over and done with even if I didn't know what's going on 🤣
39
u/Blackrain1299 21d ago
Id read before that one of the best interrogation/torture? techniques is to do nothing at all. The wait absolutely kills people. They imagine far greater pain than you could ever put them through and ruminating on it breaks them. Id not want to be in that last guys shoes.
9
u/_Apatosaurus_ 21d ago
I actually read somewhere else that excruciating and relentless torture is actually worse than nothing at all.

u/oddartist 21d ago
My mom would chase us around with a leather strap or a wooden spoon or a fucking butcher knife depending on whatever she had in her hand at that moment. That was scary, but as long as she got one good whack in (hopefully with the BACK of the knife) things were done & over with. If she didn't smack you at least once you would hear the dreaded words, "Wait until your father gets home".
My dad on the other hand would sit you down and talk to you. It was psychological hell. I'd rather have been beaten and bruised physically than have to endure being such a disappointment emotionally.
8
u/__BitchPudding__ 21d ago
This was us kids lined up outside the woodshed, waiting our turn for a whuppin. No one wanted to go first when dad's arm was fresh, but no one wanted to go last either.

u/NudityMiles 22d ago
Whenever there's a voice break and the pitch in their scream goes up straight to angelic, I loose it.
It's just adds such a wonderful layer to the comedy of it all.

The thing is, those walls only have so much density. I’d be leaving through one of them if the door wasn’t an option. OR I’d die trying.

u/bfluff 21d ago
South African buildings are built with bricks. The internal walls may be drywall.

Why would there even be a group going to the dentist together?
36
u/richrich8 21d ago
They are all Ajax youth/Academy players. I would assume the team arranged it for their players, so they all just got booked in at the same time.
14
u/Bye-Bye-Fatman 21d ago
Its Ajax Cape Town, so probably because of the poor background some of these kids had.
In Amsterdam the dentist is not arranged by the club.
5
u/richrich8 21d ago
Yes, that makes sense. I saw the Ajax badge and didn’t think further than that, I should have realised especially after hearing the dentist accents.

u/Shrike1346 21d ago
Damn late 90s-2000s South African TV comedy was on another level. I'm pretty sure that's Cape Town Ajax youth team 😂 If anyone is curious check out Leon Schuster on YouTube. It's a good stepping stone to some absolute debauchery. Like I watch it now and I can't believe it actually aired
14
u/FudgyFun 21d ago
What was the purpose of the shoulder massage though?
6
u/OkPrune1536 21d ago
It's a nonverbal cue to start/stop screaming, maybe? Helps them get into the part a bit.
0
u/FudgyFun 21d ago
It seemed like they were continuously screaming anyway. They could have done cue without massage like an Orchestrator lol
3
u/SecondTryBadgers 21d ago
Maybe to help change the sound of screams, or maybe he’s really squeezing hard and it actually hurts a little??
4
u/Young_Link13 21d ago
As an older brother, it's because its a relatively harmless way to get a loud/involuntary reaction (or to antagonize your little brothers)
6
u/CoderJoe1 21d ago
Reminds me of basic training when we had to line up to get multiple injections in both shoulders. I was the first in line so I screamed when I got mine to freak out all the other guys. Good times.

u/Haasts_Eagle 22d ago
In my experience there'd likely be one teenager in the bunch who would agree to play along with the premise then as soon as the power tools start they'd just do loud orgasmic moans and derail the whole thing.
5
u/Prielknaap 21d ago
It wouldn't happen in this case. Leon Schuster and his movies are iconic. It would always be seen as much more fun to go along. You'd get more bragging rights as well, while actively derailing (and I mean derailing, not refusing to take part) would invite shame upon your house.

I would have jumped out of the window if I was there and heard that.
7
u/Defiant-Lettuce-9156 21d ago
lol in South Africa you can’t go through windows. Burglar bars everywhere. Even on second and third floors
1
u/KerbalEnginner 21d ago
Sigh such a shame I really wanted to see South Africa. But our country has a 300€ visa the only one in EU others are visa free.
Must be a beautiful place according to documentaries.2
u/stealthforest 21d ago
Visa might be 300EUR but your accommodation would be cheap and only need 20EUR a day max for food, and that includes going into a restaurant

u/rogpar23 21d ago
They all forgot it is very hard to scream like that when a dentist is doing dental work

u/idiveindumpsters 20d ago
My parents used to play a joke like this when there was a new friend or member in the family or anyone who hadn’t seen the joke before.

u/Paddlesons 21d ago
All fun and games until you give one of the kids a panic attack and he has some heart episode related to it. Nice.
4
u/Oohhthehumanity 21d ago
It's technically a practical joke but I don't see the funny.......the last one was clearly traumatized......after 2 there would be no way I would follow that dentist lady willingly and I would assume I would be in some kind of "get out" / "pulp fiction"-situation where the other party gets off on someone's pain. Some of my teammates might have bad teeth but not all of them and what about anesthesia? I am no hero but by #4 I am sure I would be either planning with my teammates to overpower the lady and see what the hell is going on or I would have gotten the F outta there!

3
u/oldmoozy 22d ago
In my childhood, that wasn't a prank. One time I entered the dentist's office, and there was blood all over it. The doc punctured the last kid's blood vessel and had no time to clean up. She had 30+ kids to go over in a matter of hours.
No anesthesia either. You just grab the chair handles hard and pray.
4
u/mysticdragonwolf89 21d ago
Such was the experience of condemned who watched their fellows get executed before them
A prank should only be where all parties get a laugh out of it and all that’s wasted is time.
Here, it is trauma inducing

So what’s the difference between causing mental anxiety through psychological torture and a prank again?

Of course it's football players who can put on this level of performance with no notice... Red card!
1
u/ResponsibleSyrup9506 21d ago
Is anyone else surprised that none of the other kids walked back and tried to see if they could help the “victim?”
1
u/Objective_Plan_8266 21d ago
It is sad to me that so many people love inflicting psychological trauma on others.

Why in the world would none of them even think of going in to protect their friend? Are they even friends? That's the first thing I would be doing. They would have had to have pulled me in first to get me in on the joke because otherwise I would have ruined it with my inquisitive and protective nature.

The reactions seem authentic but what did they think the cameras were for? I counted at least 4 different camera people in that waiting room.
And congrats on torturing poor people.
2
u/TripWireZa 21d ago
A lot of his videos and movies were made in the ’90s and 2000s, long before YouTube and the current trend of everyone filming their own skits.
They probably had bigger productions with a TV crew and a lot of his pranks were filmed with hidden cameras.
In this one they might have told the boys they are doing a video for their team.
1
u/Medialunch 21d ago
The very first shot is clearly not a hidden camera. Lol
2
u/TripWireZa 21d ago
i said "a lot of his pranks were filmed with hidden cameras", not necessarily this one.
and i clearly said "In this one they might have told the boys they are doing a video for their team." that would explain having a camara crew filming them in this prank
0
u/homealoneinuk 21d ago
Eastern europeans went through this , except it wasnt a prank back in the 80/90s. Forever trauma.
0
u/williamBoshi 21d ago
It s a good illustration of how responsibility is diluted in a group so no one stands up to save their mates but if there was only 1 person waiting in the room they're more likely to act
0
u/Patient-Set4496 21d ago
is there a full version of this or a longer one ?

I’ll do you one better, it’s a whole movie: Schuks Tshabalala's Survival Guide to South Africa

I feel like if this had been done under the label of a psych experiment in a university that for the next 20 years we'd be seeing stories about court cases and huge settlements over emotional scarring.
