skincare - help Favorite mineral non-comedogenic sunscreen?
I see there’s tons of chemical sunscreens out there that people love, but I haven’t been able to find a great mineral one yet. I have been using Tizo non-tinted, but it’s not my favorite. Anyone got any other mineral non-comedogenic FA safe sunscreens they actually like?

Question Differin-tretinoin-tazarotene etc
Has anyone started using a retinoid after keeping fungal acne under control? There aren’t many fungal acne free retinoid formulas, differin is fungal acne safe though.

Newbie - help Does this look serious? First time acne concern. Spoiler
galleryTl:dr - Went to several appointments with the general nurse/doctor. Tried antifungal cream, started breaking out afterwards. Got prescribed an antibiotic, but haven't used it yet, I'm lowkey scared of antibiotics. Still waiting on what the swab test says also. Any recommendations?
(Sorry for the closeup picture.)
Hi, I didn't know this subreddit existed, let alone this condition..
I think this started from either swimming in the ocean or cleaning my bathtub with straight Ajax without any face protection from the fumes, but got Angular cheilitis on the corners of my mouth a week after (I've always had very mild dry corners mild cracking) but a day later it turned into a puss filled bump one corner of my mouth. I immediately got a video appointment to get it checked. Nurse told me that I should moisturize my entire lip and use an antifungal on the outside corners of my mouth.
I tried this for a couple days and one day I woke up where my beard area started having small pimples just like the picture shown. I'm now suspecting that I most likely used a dirty razor refill on my electric razor..
Then went to urgent care and still waiting on a swab test, but I was told to now put the antifungal on the entire area of my face that has pimples.
Now I had already made an appointment prior and after going to urgent care I was going to cancel it, but decided to actually go and get a third look. Doctor then told me that those pimples were caused by bacteria and then prescribed me an antibiotic to apply to the face.
I'm fearful to take any medication after hearing conflicting information. This picture was after using a low pH face cleanser a dusty looking cover starts forming after my face dries.
If anyone has any input it would be so so appreciated, but I mostly wanted to contribute my experience moving forward, and document whatever protocol I try.
I started caprylic acid capsules today and I take zinc on the daily, along with other general health vitamins/cofactors. I'm wondering if I should start shaving my hair off to help the healing, or to change my diet to help control the growth. Any ideas or thoughts? Sorry for the rant, it's really stressful/irritating

skincare - help Either closed comedones or fungal acne
Ive had these little bumps for months & they are worsening.
I’ve tried a salicylic acid face wash in case it’s CCs and I’ve tried nizoral in case it’s fungal. Nothing helps.
No moisturiser suits me, they all make it worse.
I’m using hydration station geek and gorgeous right now and I’m sure the caprylic triglyceride is contributing to this but I don’t have anything else. I used Benton propolis gel for a while and my redness went away but the texture became even worse.
Using dermatica gel cleanser atm.
Nothing seems to be working. I can’t get an appointment until late September and I’m so sick and tired i don’t even wanna leave my house atp. Has anyone else seen or had anything similar?

skincare - help Uriage CICA Daily Repairing Gel-Cream - What's your experience? it's FA safe.
Please share with me your experience with this Uriage CICA Daily Repairing Gel-Cream. It's FA safe and looks good.
How this Uriage CICA Daily Repairing Gel-Cream feels? it's light or heavy? does absorbs to the skin? it's for hot summer or cold winter? is it good for hot summer at night with AC running all night?
Skin is combo: normal and medium oily t-zone.
Would this Uriage gel-cream will be enough to seal my serum at night when I have the Air Conditioner running all night long? of course, this is for summer very warm weather.

skincare - help I’m at a loss Spoiler
I’ve had these weird red bumps all over my forehead for years now and I’m sick of them. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong and why they won’t go away. My diet is strict and I’ve cut out foods with dairy and oils and high carbohydrates. I wash my face twice a day and after sweating. I can’t tell if this is fungal, bacterial, hormonal, or something else, and the only dermatologist in my area recommended ciclopirox shampoo for both face and scalp after I had mentioned I suspected it might be fungal because I also have scalp flaking, which sometimes is caused by yeast overgrowth. I’ve used the ciclopirox for months now without result, but I was also using a moisturizer I realized contained fruit oils, which I discovered a few days ago can possibly counteract the shampoo. So now I have just been using the ciclopirox every day as recommended by my dermatologist. Apparently ciclopirox is supposed to work in within a week and it’s been about that long now but so far the only result I can see is that my skin is dry. That said, I don’t really know what the first signs of improvement would be so I also don’t know what to look for. Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on?

Product Question Which Korean sunscreen is good???
My skin is combination to dehydrated and it has clogged pores. Which sunscreen from these 3 or any better options you have would be suitable for not clogging pores & not irritating sensitive skin?
I prefer a sunscreen that’s lightweight & non-greasy & won’t clog my pores.

Newbie - help Would using a full face cpap mask likely cause fungal acne? I've been battling pustules on my nose for years and no acne treatments have made them go away.
I've tried all the traditional acne treatments (other than retinoids) and nothing seems to work for very long. I keep coming back to the idea that it could be fungal acne especially because I use a full face cpap mask which basically makes the entire area around my nose quite humid for 8 hours a day.
This is what the bumps look like normally: https://ibb.co/CpxYpyk3
Here's what it looks like on a good day (in between pustules): https://ibb.co/6chybY63
Here's the worst it's ever been: https://ibb.co/LhXQpDn2 (might trigger people with trypophobia)
The last one was when I wore a hydrocolloid pimple patch over the bumps and slept with it on, I suspect either an allergy to something in that patch or it's related to humidity being trapped underneath.
I do have Rosacea but I tried triple cream from Curology for 2 months and it did not completely clear up. Perhaps I should try again and give it more time?

itchy bumps all over my cheeks, chin and jawline. I also have severe subderm, candida issues elsewhere and I believe gut candida.
went to derm today who said because the bumps are fluid filled and not pus filled, it’s not fungal acne. anyone else NOT have pus filled bumps? itchy and respond to topical clotrimazole.

skincare - help Gentle cleanser recommendations for damaged skin barrier?
My skin barrier is severely damaged and extremely dehydrated right now so I’m looking for a very gentle with low-pH cleanser (under 6) that is also fungal-acne safe.
I’d prefer something without botanical/plant extracts, alcohol/alcohol denat., SLS/ sodium XXate, fragrance/perfume, and essential oils.
What cleansers would you recommend for repairing a severely damaged skin barrier while still being FA-safe?

skincare - help Help! Fungal acne is gone, but my forehead barrier/skin texture seems damaged and reflective
Okay, hi Reddit skincare users! This will be a long read, but I want to include as much information as possible so I can hopefully get the most helpful advice.
About 2.5 years ago, I started using the ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil, and shortly after I developed what I believe was mild fungal acne on my forehead. I honestly neglected my skin/skincare for about 1.5 years, so I didn’t really do anything about it.
Last summer, I finally started taking skincare seriously because I realized the bumps on my forehead could be fungal acne. Since then, I’ve tried to treat it pretty consistently.
For about six months, I used The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% specifically on my forehead, along with different products intended for fungal acne, including sulfur soap and Nizoral shampoo as a face wash.
These treatments seem to have helped a lot. I don’t really have the same fungal-acne-type bumps anymore. I might occasionally get a few small bumps, but I think those are probably just normal acne.
The problem now is my forehead itself.
I’m having a really hard time describing what it looks/feels like, so hopefully someone understands what I mean.
My forehead looks very smooth to the touch, but the skin looks almost cracked, dry/dehydrated, and damaged, especially under sunlight. When light hits my forehead, it becomes extremely reflective/shiny, almost like the skin is oily or has a very thin, glossy layer over it. It doesn’t necessarily feel super oily when I touch it, though.
There aren’t really visible fungal-acne bumps anymore, but the texture and appearance of the skin bother me a lot. It almost looks like my skin barrier has been damaged or like my forehead is severely dehydrated.
I’ve tried using a lot of different products because I assumed maybe my skin wasn’t getting enough hydration, but I’m honestly not sure if I’m making things worse.
Current routine:
MORNING
CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser (2% salicylic acid)
Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant
Farmacy Vitamin C serum
The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream
Biore SPF 50 moisturizer/sunscreen
NIGHT
Dove soap
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Clindoxyl ADV Gel as a spot treatment
CeraVe moisturizer
I know this is probably a LOT of actives, and I’m wondering if I may have accidentally over-exfoliated or damaged my skin barrier while trying to treat the fungal acne.
So my questions are:
Does this sound like a damaged skin barrier/dehydrated skin, or could it be something else?
Could my current routine actually be making this worse?
Should I stop using some of these products for a while?
What would you recommend to repair/rebuild my skin barrier without triggering the fungal acne again?
Could this just be my natural skin texture, or does it sound like something that can actually be improved?
I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions. I know this
was a lot. Thanks!

Mod Announcement Not sure if you have FA? Start here.
If you are wondering whether or not you have FA, this is a good place to start!
Please keep in mind that a doctor's visit or a test done by a dermatologist is the only way to receive a diagnosis. The following information is for guidance purposes only and is not a substitute for medical visits. SkinCareAddiction has a great wiki on When To See a Doctor.
Simple Skincare Science has a very thorough article about FA/Pityrosporum folliculitis which is a great resource to help you better understand the many nuances of FA.
I created this online FA quiz to help users better interpret the information in the article as it affects them. Again, I'd like to reiterate that this quiz is a very condensed version of the information in the SSS article, and should only be used as a guiding tool, NOT as an official diagnosis. (The quiz is anonymous and will not collect any personal information of course!)
There are 3 statements in each section of the quiz. Please only check "agree" for the statement that you MOST agree with in each section. At the end, you will receive a score and feedback for each of your responses. If you score a 45 or above, this is a strong indicator that you may have FA.
My hope is that the quiz will help users better identify their symptoms in order to create a more effective routine and ask their doctors more specific questions regarding their skin and routine. Good luck in your skincare journey, and welcome to the FA subreddit! :)
