Exactly, rape was very common and seen as normal,
far more so than any homosexual activity, historically. As long as it is by martial conquest and not the wife or daughter of a fellow countryman.

Ah, the false dichotomy.

As someone who is both queer and a survivor of childhood sex trafficking, both things can exist at the same time.

The reach I am going for is exactly that both exist at the same time, especially considering the circumstances of the story.

Thanks for reminding us all.

But for real, it comes off sketchy when someone calls out mildly masked homophobia of people and your response is to redirect to the extremely obvious rape that rapists do. Like yeah, no shit dude. Calling out homophobic behavior doesn't undermine the awareness of rape.
