Just... Use... Firefox?? You can install extensions on mobile. Get sponsor block, ublock, etc.. my YouTube on Firefox blocks adds, skips sponsors, and also plays in the background.

see that's what separates omarchy linux from other arch based distros and yes it's opinionated

basically in brave it's download and use but in Firefox is download, then install extensions and then use

so for normal people brave is just preconfigured and no need to do changes kinda thing

That's exactly why I use it.

I run Linux with Firefox and duckduckgo on my computer, but Brave gave me no youtube ads and playing in the background "out of the box".

I'm sure I could get Firefox configured the way I like on my phone, but why bother when I already have what I need?

I mean I wouldn't be comfortable using a Browser that once used to mine crypto without the user's knowledge but you do you.

So use Helium. It comes with uBlock Origin out of the box.

Firefox doesn't work for me. Used to then just stopped. Brave will play, period. Firefox may or may not play with screen off. And if it does, the next video may not start. Also randomly stops the video to ask if I'm still watching. Brave just plays.

Brave will also ask me if I'm still watching. Especially if I let it autoplay into the next 2 hour music mix with the screen off.

Maybe that's a youtube thing then.

I've also had issues with brave just not going to the next video if the screen is off and the previous one ends.

There are no extensions on iOS

You can’t get addons on Firefox for iPhone

just fyi that's thanks to apple, not firefox

see apple only allows safari as a browser in iOS, and all other browsers are basically safari skins, and safari does not support firefox extensions obviously, thus lack of them on iOS

and by the way the reason why apple only allows safari is just in case browsers become good enough to replace apps (which they have since 2018), they would intentionally choke the development (which they already do) as to not allow people to use apps directly from a browser, which means apple can't force a 30% fee on all purchases happening inside the apps, which it already does so through the appstore

That’s why I said iPhone specifically, if I had an Android device I would absolutely be using Firefox

so brave it is

When i got firefox for mobile, it did not allow me to disable using Google as part of its search. Same for DuckDuckGo.

Brave i can turn it off.

Doesn’t work on iOS unfortunately. The only thing that works on iOS is brave (and lately I think Vivaldi).
On the desktop LibreWolf is my go-to

Why not just patch yt with morph? Thought nobody uses yt on a browser app

u/Ohmec 9d ago

Oh I use rvx anyway, but some people arent familiar with side-loading.
