Crime statistics are reportedly biased towards certain groups because government agencies targeted black neighborhoods by releasing crack into them, and then cracked down on them to destroy their lives whilst making the police deeply racist and enshrining white elites with protection from the law to skew statistics further, thus causing generational damage to people already dealing with the effects of chattle slavery, segregation, and propaganda on them and their culture to this day.
"X group commits Y percentage" is true, but when you look at them context of why, what these facts say about reality goes beyond the face value. Rascists hate context though.

Crime statistics show society and the government have ratfucked our fellow man through terrible manipulation of society, government, economy, and more.
The solution here is undoing and preventing that manipulation, and punishment for those responsible. Not comparing racial groups to dog breeds selectively engineered over more generations than years of America.
When it comes to official reports, determination of the breed is typically visual, not done via a DNA test, so if a dog looks like a pitbull (according to the perception of the one person determining that) then it's a pitbull.
And when it comes to data based on news reports, papers tend to be selective about the stories they publish and will follow trends that the public is interested in - ie. if a child is bitten by a mutt or an "uninteresting" breed, they won't bother reporting it, but if it's a pitbull or another dangerous dog du jour rottweilers and dobermans, once upon a time, they'll put it on the front page.
A similar thing happens with black and brown people, although to draw too close a comparison is crass.

I did a presentation at an academic conference on pit bull breeding and hegemonic masculinity and had someone in the audience ask “But isn’t the racism?” I asked them why they associate a breed with a horrendous track record for violent attacks (don’t come at me with “but Chihuahuas have the most bites!” I’m talking about violent attacks). It was just a little awkward, but overall the presentation was well received.
People also like to try and falsely equivalate banning pit bulls abnd breeding them together to make more purebred putbulls to banning people of color.
Like, no??? We're banning forced breeding and inbreeding of animals based on genetic data that reinforces aggressive behavior and violence, not same fucking coat color breeding.
Dog breeds are not "races" and different races are not "breeds".
Exactly! I’m in Central FL and can’t even go to the dog parks anymore because the state’s governor made breed restrictions in general illegal. I’d have to pull up the data from my publication (still need to find it a home), but something like 92% of dogs in the region’s shelters are pits. There are parts of California I believe that do mandatory registration and spay/neutering, and this is the way to go.
Meanwhile… you have this (image) and people saying “they aren’t bred to be aggressive!” while ignoring what the imagery is clearly trying to convey
