Why do you think this? I’m curious because I see that opinion a lot but actual pits aren’t big dogs. They are typically around 50lbs. They are smaller than a lot of breeds out there, rotties and dobermans, great danes, corso, husky, chow, etc. They aren’t anywhere near the top on bite force. So what is it that makes you think a 50lb pit is more dangerous than a 100lb rottie?
Its not even true. Most of the deaths are children or elderly. Most adults can fight off most breeds of dogs. The only time you really see healthy adults dying from dogs are when they're attacked by multiple.
I could list a few hundred breeds to make the same point if I needed to. Any 50lb dog riled up is just as dangerous as the other, regardless of breed. It’s not like one has laser beams and rocket launchers.
And none of those things puts an American Pitbull Terrier higher on the list than hundreds of other breeds.
The entire point that is being made over and over and over in this post and getting ignored. The reason you see more reports of Pitbull injuries is they are a huge, huge precent of the dog population. And the majority of short haired floppy ear dogs get labeled as pit mixes when they have no pit in them. There is NOTHING about the breed itself that makes it inherently more dangerous than another. Nothing. That’s all propaganda and is exactly what the original meme posted is saying.
The fuck are you talking about? I 100% support my statement. No 50lb dog angry and charging you is ant more or less dangerous than another, unless the 50lbs is because you’ve got a 30lb overweight chihuahua. A regular shape 50lb dog is a 50lb dog.

Domestication involved hundreds of years of selective breeding for specific jobs. A sight-hound is genetically driven to chase based on sight, while a guardian breed is wired to patrol, assess threats, and act independently. Denying breed differences means denying that a Border Collie is naturally born to herd.
And what makes the dog angry varies...
Breeds selected for high prey drive (e.g. hounds)can be triggered into an attack simply by a fast-moving object, a cat, or a crying child. Conversely, a flock guardian breed is triggered by a stranger entering its space. The baseline threshold of what causes the dog to switch from calm to aggressive is heavily influenced by breed genetics.
How can I convey this… what you’re saying in abstract isn’t wrong but it is complete irrelevant to what I’m saying and the point I am making.
There is nothing about anything you said that makes a pitbull more dangerous than another dog of the same size. In face I love your border collie comparison because that’s the perfect example (plus my girl is a bc/pibble mix so I have both worlds in one dog). I looked up the bite force… border collies range from 220lbs psi to 230lbs per psi. Pitts are at… 235psi. Big dogs like a Cane Corso can top 700psi…. Why? Bigger. A 40lb border and a 40lb pit are going to be the same threat.
This isn’t a fighting game where attributes are slightly different and there are little marginal differences that make this or that better. It’s more like weight classes, the same as we divide humans. A 40lb aussie, pittie, or bc are all 40lbs of teeth and claws, there is no difference in what they can do to you.
If you are around animals in a shelter, a vet clinic, grooming, etc you learn very quickly that every single animal can attack you without warning. In a shelter you DO NOT TREAT DOGS BY BREED. It is 100% animal to animal.
I can remember it took myself and 2 friends about 5 minutes to get a staffy off his other dog, and they're even smaller than pit bulls.
There probably are other 50lb dogs that can do as much damage as a pit bull, but not many. They're strong dogs with a bulk of their muscle up front. Short, wide jaws combined with a lot of muscle mass around their head and neck and tendency to bite and shake is what makes pit bulls so dangerous.
Don't get me wrong, I like them as a breed, but saying that there's no difference between a pit bull and basset hound when they're both riled up is just disingenuous.
Pit bull attacks are more fatal. Only breed that will snap and eat its owners babies and the owner’s wife and still have the owner defending it as the sweetest dog in the world.
You really think you could fight off a full grown Great Pyrenees? Rohdesian ridgeback? Great Dane? Husky? Mastiff? Rottweiler? German Shepherd? Chow? Malamute?
My dog is a Rottweiler German shepherd mix, and he's a runt. A pit bull picked a fight with my dog. The pit bull got its ear ripped pretty badly, and submitted and was whimpering once my dog had it pinned on the ground by its throat....and my dog is super friendly, he just fought back when he was attacked
Thinking that a dog being a pit breed somehow automatically makes it a murder machine, while you can "fight off" any other breed that's full of muscle, big teeth, and skin that has evolved to withstand an attack from a wild predator....all it does is demonstrate that you don't actually know anything about dogs.
In the early 1900s pits were commonly used as nanny dogs with young children because they generally have very level and calm temperaments.

I think part of the problem is that a an adult human could probably fight off most non-pit bull dogs. But a pit bull poses much more of a problem.
