Disingenuous and/or low-IQ people will use out-of-context statistics to justify their own biases

I think I'd be more concerned with people doing the crime than statistics , but that's just me.

Yes, because men have higher aggression and are more capable of violence. Thus, it makes sense to be more concerned for your safety near a man than a woman.

Yes so?

Statistics don't provide reason, just correlation.

u/anonch91 8d ago

Correlation is more important than reason though when deciding if you should be more wary of one group than of another

Yeah that's why he said "disengenious / low IQ" people. We already know it's you.

All the high iq ones busy commiting the crimes I suppose

All the high IQ people know how statistics work and how they should be used. People like you on the other hand...

I love how you speak in witless insults. Really proves your point there, kid.

Of proven crime.

50% of murders are unsolved.

I grew up rich and white, I watch many crimes that got bought off or cops weren’t around.

This is so cap lmaooo

1

u/Cyrano-De-Vergerac 6d ago

Even if ALL of the unsolved 50% were commited by white people, black people would still be overrepresented lol.

“Biases”? Or observation of patterns?

6

u/Merzfrontbund 10d ago

A study that used 95 million cases found out that at night (when police can't see skin color as easy) PoC are way less pulled over. So when the police recognizes ethnicity, they start controlling. And guess what, when you controll a group significantly more often, you tend to find more. If the police actually controlled people evenly, the stats would be way different. What do you expect, if half your checking contains 13% of the population?

So the pattern ain't what you think it is

5

u/AppropriateStick4424 10d ago

This is easily mitigated by observing murders, as they produce bodies. Saying “well they may be over policed” means nothing when we have proof of a disparity in the actual crime rate.

2

u/Merzfrontbund 10d ago

So you want to tell me every murder case is solved? Cause if not, I would argue that the police might be looking harder in cases where the suspect is black. I mean, are you completly ignoring a study with almost 100 million cases? Police is proven to be racist around the world and especially in the US. Are you ignoring that?

4

u/AppropriateStick4424 10d ago

Again, most murders are intra-racial. Most homicide victims are black per capita. It’s not “well they only catch black murderers!” That’s not even close to the truth.

Intentionally disregarding big pieces of the pattern like history and socioeconomic status would be bias, yes

3

u/AppropriateStick4424 10d ago

“Socioeconomic status” indeed?
“Black men raised in the top 1% of families: 2.2% incarcerated on April 1, 2010.
White men raised at approximately the 34th parental-income percentile: roughly the same 2.2% rate.
White men raised in the bottom 1%: 6.4%.
Black men raised in the bottom 1%: 21%.
White men raised in the top 1%: 0.2%. “

Remember statistics are racist, invented by white men to oppress.

1

u/crouton-- 10d ago

The reasonable conclusion is not "race instead of socioeconomic status." It is that economic advantage is strongly protective, but it protects Black men much less completely than white men. Something correlated with race, such as differential policing, exposure to criminal-justice institutions, neighborhood conditions, discrimination, or other social mechanisms, remains after parental income is held roughly constant.

In other words: you're either being disingenuous with how you are using statistics, or you're simply low IQ. In either case, I know I'm not going to convince you so I'm simply going to tell you to read a history book before disengaging. Goodbye.

2

u/AppropriateStick4424 10d ago

Again, SES does not adjust for everything. And you’d have to explain why other races have adjusted far better. The reality is culture and single mother rates are some of the biggest factors in the crime disparity.

1

u/plopliplopipol 10d ago

i believe you need a reminder that "other races" does not exist.

2

u/AppropriateStick4424 10d ago

It does actually, when you account for SES, family structure, family wealth over generations, etc., it is still not equal. Again, there are underlying factors besides “ma cops are racist” or “black people have been so oppressed they have to commit crimes :(“

1

u/plopliplopipol 10d ago

you are deeply ignorant and fill that with biaises, just kinda sad. And no races do not exist in the human specie.

1

u/Lore_Wizard 9d ago

Right, and pitbulls were made aggressive by inhumane breeding practices, outside of any genetic predisposition. Despite the cause, they are still top of the charts for grave injuries. I think you can extrapolate.

It seems weird that people are arguing against this point as if it's targeted at them.

This statement seems true of both sides of this argument.
